I have been doing some research and I think I should add Glutamine to my supplement regiment. I would be interested in hearing your recommendation @Hyde also @sns8778 I did not see it listed on the SNS website ?

Glutamine
L-glutamine
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid (building block of protein) in the body. The body can make enough glutamine for its regular needs. But during times of extreme stress (the kind you experience after heavy exercise or an injury), your body may need more glutamine than it can make. Most glutamine is stored in muscles, followed by the lungs where much of the glutamine is made.

Glutamine is important for removing excess ammonia (a common waste product in the body). It also helps your immune system function and may be needed for normal brain function and digestion.

You can usually get enough glutamine without taking a supplement because your body makes it and you get some in your diet. Certain medical conditions, including injuries, surgery, infections, and prolonged stress, can lower glutamine levels. In these cases, taking a glutamine supplement may be helpful.

Cancer
Many people with cancer have low levels of glutamine. For this reason, some researchers speculate that glutamine may be helpful when added to conventional cancer treatment. Supplemental glutamine is often given to malnourished cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments, and sometimes used in people undergoing bone marrow transplants.

Glutamine seems to help reduce stomatitis (an inflammation of the mouth) caused by chemotherapy. Some studies suggest that taking glutamine orally may help reduce diarrhea associated with chemotherapy.

More clinical research is needed to know whether glutamine is safe or effective to use as part of the treatment regimen for cancer.
We don't offer a Glutamine powder but that's one I want to do very soon. The price on it had been very volatile the last year and a half so I didn't want to do one when raws were up and then the price plummet and be stuck with high cost inventory. But its one that we're definitely wanting to do now. Until then, I would suggest the NOW Foods brand.

I am a big fan of Glutamine and have been for many years. I just don't talk about it much on here because for the longest time there was so much Glutamine bashing on here just because it seemed to be the cool thing to do at the time - which was ridiculous because its clinically proven to help with a wide variety of things and is even used by many of the top burn centers in the country to help with tissue repair.

I just stayed out of it when people were dogging it, but my private thought was wondering if they were illiterate or just going along with the bro crowd because they weren't using anywhere near the clinically researched dosages, yet were complaining that it didn't work.

I would go with 30 grams per day either split - 10 grams 3x per day or 15 grams 2x per day.

I can’t speak for Steve or SNS, or his stock anywhere, but I have come back to glutamine as a big proponent of it. Large doses improve the stomach lining and gut health, help bolster the immune system, can reduce DOMS from training, and there doesn’t seem to be any side effects or issues from very large doses. It’s just a conditionally essential amino.

When I have reflux, glutamine curbs it. When I am sick or stressed, it seems to help things faster.

I would try 30g a day, either 3x10g or 2x15g in some water between meals/on an empty stomach for best absorption. Just keep a shaker and the tub on the counter and hit it 2-3x a day. You will want to buy it by the kilo; at 30 grams daily that’s only a month supply really.
Great post. Very well said and I agree with everything you said in there.

I'm going to reply to a couple different posts, but I want to post something quickly before buying decisions are made:

For Glutamine powder, buy NOW Foods glutamine.

I don't say negative things about other brands, but I'll just vaguely say that there are brands that came up about Glutamine that I wouldn't take if someone gave it to me.
I ordered a Kilo of Now for $37. and I remember you say that the Now brand is a high quality brand, since than if I'm not buying and SNS Family brand most of my purchases are Now. Thank you!

NOW is a brand I would trust across the board, product-wise. I’m not saying all of their formulations are good (they aren’t) - I just mean that they do not in any way misrepresent their products or imply claims they can’t back. When a member called asking about phosphatidic acid content in soy lecithin granules, they said we don’t standardize for that content. I trust them to deliver what’s on the label, and they have for the 13 years I’ve been using stuff occasionally from them.

I agree completely and that's exactly what I've said - NOW's quality is top notch and they're always my go to for anything they make as far as single ingredient stuff, but that doesn't mean I think all of their formulas are the best, but I understand them and they're designed for their customer base and price points. But even the formulas I'm not a big fan of, I feel confident that they have in them what the bottles say.

And that's a great point about what they told you about the PA content - they didn't BS you or make something up or try to tell you what the average amount in soy lecithin is, they straight out told you the truth.

It's ironic bc I remember some people complaining that NOW couldn't answer that question - and I was like - uh, yeah, they did, they gave an honest answer unlike some other companies that would've just lied or told people what they wanted to hear.

@sns8778, I remember for the longest time people were dogging L-Glutamine saying it was only 53% bioavailable, which was utter crap. Only 53% showed up as changes in muscle content but that was because the rest was already being used for the immune, and digestive system and things like that first.

Yeah, the whole thing was ridiculous. They were also basing it off the assumption that people were only going to take 5 grams per day. 5 grams is/was the average scoop size and it may be an okay starting point for some people, but that isn't the dosage that needs to be used for maximum benefits.

I always find it interesting when broscience contradicts real science and random bodybuilder/coach/influencer says something doesn't work like in the case of Glutamine, whereas there are dozens, maybe hundreds of studies that prove otherwise and in the case of Glutamine, where its used by many of the top burn units in the country to help aid in tissue repair.

Agreed and the anecdotal evidence proves itself. I gain weight when I first start supplementing in the 20-30g range. Similar to starting creatine, except it is not so much more voluminous due to water being pulled in, but more density. When I contract the muscles they become hard as rocks. Anyone who knows, knows that glutamine is the main amino that gets broken down in muscle catabolism as it is the easiest to convert to carb via gluconeogenesis. Supplementing keeps levels topped off and slows catabolism.

I agree with everything except the part where you said that 'everyone knows' haha.

Everyone that researches it should know that, but it amazes me how many people have a negative attitude towards glutamine just because someone said something negative about it.

That's what I meant about too many people following the broscience over real world science. It reminds me of someone on here was a jerk to me awhile back because I posted something related to food allergies and also reverse T3. It was a thread where someone was seemingly doing everything right and struggling to lose any weight at all and they had bloodwork coming up and I suggested that they request a reverse T3 test and possibly look into allergen testing. It was simple helpful advice, and insurance generally covers those tests.

Someone decided to interject and try to argue with me saying reverse T3 wasn't useful bc of a few articles on it - the articles about which were related to the reverse T3 number itself, whereas its actually the ratio that's important and you can't know the ratio without doing the test for the number itself. My info was coming directly from scientific articles, a nationally known speaker on the subject that lives in my area, and a thyroid cancer specialist at MD Anderson medical center in Houston, one of the top thyroid cancer hospitals in the country.

Then they tried to disagree with me about food allergies affecting diet and were quoting selective studies from 2010, 2012, etc. and overlooking literally hundreds of studies on it from within the last 5 years. Back in 2010/2012, hardly anyone even knew what mast cell or histamine intolerance even was and not long before that, people didn't even know there were multiple types of gluten allergies/sensitivities/intolerances. Back then, you were either celiac or you weren't. As testing evolved, it came to be known that there is Celiac, a non-Celiac autoimmune response (which I have), and more. They were going off old studies and presented themselves as an expert on the subject because they do diets for bodybuilders. Well, I've done diets for bodybuilders and athletes for over 20 years but most importantly, I help people with diet and allergy issues that traditional trainers won't touch or for people that don't get results from normal protocols (I don't think I've ever mentioned that here, but that's bc most of the people I do this for I meet thru them emailing and having issues or thru doctor referrals). Point being though, I stay up to date on this information because I have the non-Celiac autoimmune response as well as histamine intolerance issues personally and my allergies are so severe that I've been used in a research study on them and my allergy specialist used to practice at the Mayo Clinic and I know him well because he's fascinated with my issues and said I'm the second worst case he's ever seen - which sucks for me, but I try to turn it into a positive and use it to help others.

Sorry for the rant - those are just other examples of where broscience pisses me off when it contradicts real world up to date science. I think that some people just feel like they have to be experts on everything instead of learning from people that are.. For example, I have a better knowledge of food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances than 99% of the population but when my allergy specialist speaks, I listen bc he knows more than me and I want to learn. I like learning whereas I think a common problem in todays world is that the desire to learn has been replaced by the desire to be right. No one knows everything and I'm perfectly okay with admitting the stuff I know nothing about - an example, me and Rocket have discussed our love for vehicles but he knows a lot about them and I know next to nothing about them and for some reason, my brain just can't pick up on and retain any knowledge about how to work on them. I admit that and leave that talk to the experts haha.

Agreed and it looks like you agree with me on that completely after all. I actually said "Anyone who knows, knows" which sounds similar but I really meant "those with the information know."

Far too many people would rather be right than learn something new. Not me. If you show me or convince me with data that my current belief is incorrect I am happy to admit being incorrect and grateful that someone took the time to educate me. I have eaten crow on the boards a few times when someone who knew better came along and taught me some new information I didn't know before, or disproves something I was confident in that was wrong. I would definitely rather learn than profess incorrect information just to feel more intelligent.

I am thinking since your weight was artificially ridiculously reduced you're quite happy with it bouncing back?
I don't recall if you had stated your timeline target for full treatment until you get the lines removed and can starting using both arms again, did the doctor give you any targets on that?

I had a co-worker almost exactly same age as you that had to go through some radiation treatments last year for a few months and while the experience wasn't great, the timeline the doctor gave him was spot on perfect. They had warned him that of the 20 or so weeks that the first 15 wouldn't be that bad but it would become uncomfortable in the last few as the radiation burns got a little more severe, then they said something like "june 30th is the last day, by july 4th you'll be feeling good".

I only share that story because like clock work, they had it nailed! by July 4th/5th he was feeling pretty good, eating well again and ended up with a good summer! these docs have their stuff figured out.

so if all works out, you're going to be shredded by the time you finish chemo and ready for a mini bulk I bet.
I reckon your previous health + everything you're doing now will help expedite recovery a LOT.

Do they have any theories on that? You said it dropped really well too right?
My buddy was born with HIV and ended up in the local cancer hospital twice in his early twenties, it was really hard on him but the science and doctors are amazing, I swear the kid is invincible. IIRC his WBC count was the exact opposite of yours like scary low to zero.? I just don't know enough about the science but I know I watched him go from a plump 25yr old to a scrawny skin and bones kid back to a little fatty when he got healthy again lol

I normally use 3mph when I got the OK I started at 2.0 the last session I was at 2.5 slowly working my way back to 3mph.
Nice! I've been trying to hit the treadmill every other day for about 20-25 minutes. Once it gets a little warmer planning to do some walk/runs outside.

I got home from work Tuesday evening and was beat, went to bed a 7:30pm, I woke up at 3am and still did not feel great, so I thought it best in my current situation to go back to sleep and give my body the rest it seemed to want. I got up at 4:30am and felt a whole lot better. My diet yesterday was horrible, a friend of mine stopped at work to check on me and brought a dozen of what he said were the "Best Peanut Butter Creamed Filled Donuts in The World" after carefully evaluating two of them, I believe he was right. Oh my gosh were they good. I brought one hone to my wife (who is not big on sweets) and she agreed !! At the end of the day I got a call from my daughter, since I was at the hospital form my birthday she said the grandkids wanted to take me out to dinner. Steak, Potato and Ice Cream for dessert. Life Is Good !!

Rest will be needed my friend!! Sounds like you are staying strong though (no surprise there!) those donuts sound freaking delicious, and dinner with all the family, Life is great man!!

I'm a firm believer that happiness is rooted in a spirit of gratitude, but your boss would have to be a real ding a ling to not understand

I don't spend enough time in prayer these days but among the many things I mentioned and asked for was a fast FAST healing and recovery for you brother!

Just got caught back up from the last few days. It’s good to see your blood count is getting better and better. I do agree with the fact that you being in great shape before, and your commitment to doing all you can to continue to eat healthy and workout when you can, is directly contributing to your healing and complete remission. And brother just keep enjoying the treats and good food your loved ones are sharing with you, because we all know you deserve it. Looks like that extra little rest did you some good and helped you have a good workout and great day. Praying that your Doctor visits will go well, and we continue to hear these good reports.🙏
