That's the direction I think he's going and I probably would anyway eventually. I got access to some strong man equipment too.
I’m not saying you need to go full strongman, I just think some high boxsquats focusing on explosively driving your hips to come off the box, and some push presses and cleans, can do a lot to maintain a lot of dense muscle tissue and train better rate of force development with minimal overall volume. The answer is always 5 sets of 3 with very short rests when not trying to add size.
But some sandbag carries until your lungs and muscles scream for oxygen never made anyone weaker, either.
