Living wage is higher than that but many companies are opposed that because it hurts shareholder returns and churn out the mistrust that it will cause a rise in costs, something which many smaller companies with higher minimum wages dispute.
Smaller food chains have demonstrated this by having low cost food items BUT pay their staff an actual living wage.
