Why did they decide to become a lawyer? What were they expecting? Did something change in a few years?

They can always grind through some hard times and either learn a new better paying trade and change careers or start their own business online. There are alot of opportunities out there, and if someone is smart enough to be a lawyer they should be smart enough to discover other options and not be so stubborn about their failed choice in career path.

Ive been dead broke and homeless many years ago so I typically dont feel sorry for people who went to school and get paid minimum wage. There really are alot of options out there if you look for it.

Not related to current events, but was reading about Richard Feynman last night and came across his term, "Cargo Cult Science" and upon reading about it I immediately thought about "Global Warming".

I agree. Just because someone has certain skills doesn't mean they have to be paid more. If they are not using those skills and providing a less valuable service than what they may be capable of, they should be paid a rate commensurate with the value they provide, not the potential value they could provide.

If an attorney making $500/hr suddenly decides to run a cash register at McDonald's, the fact he has a law degree doesn't change the value he/she is providing.

Yo Jiggz, everything good? I read you guys had a nearby earthquake and tsunami warning? Didn't read like the tsunami happened, but it is the earthquakes did damage.

Let me rephrase, the options are always good. What sucks though is exploitation. When a company can feasibly pay a higher wage but chooses not to (Costco vs Walmart minimum wage for example).

Lots of people think the market will be fair, but it isn't.

Think of this common pricing strategy:

"Can find a lower price? We'll beat it by 10%". Sounds good right? What it actually does is cap the lowest price. No company will need to go lower than that companies price, because the other will always beat it by 10%. So instead of getting into a price war, they simply have the same price. That way you think you are getting the lowest price, but in reality companies could have gone lower but are capped at that price because otherwise people will simply price match it elsewhere.

Who wins in this scenario? The customer thinks they do. The company knows they do.

I can already see your solution: "buy a manufacturing plant, hire employees and make the product cheaper for yourself"

Yeah we're good. Fortunately it was off the coast a fair amount.

Unfortunately all the quakes were along the notorious alpine fault line, which runs right through the south island as well so we're on a bit of alert for one to happen inland

Its not exploitation in any way. Exploitation is letting illegals in the country and paying them only a few bucks an hour off the books.

If anybody is doing any exploiting of low income society its the government for stealing it from them after earning it and on top of it all taxing them when they spend it.

Exploitation is punishing productive behavior and hand over the fruits of labor to the lazy.

Exploitation is government printing trillions out of thin air and giving it to the super wealthy at the expense of purchasing power which effects poor people the most.

Exploitation is high property taxes which increases stuff like rent, many of these taxes wasted on pure bullcrap.

Exploitation is paying thousands every year in school taxes even if your 80 years old and graduated 62 years ago and have no children.

There are no excuses in life, either deal with having a crappy job or do something like read a book and take some online classes so you can have a more promising future.

People need to stop voting for authoritarian criminal government. Poor people more than often dig their own holes and if they are voting for demicans and republicrats either change and prop up a capatalism system where they can prosper without punishment and promote individual freedom and liberty or they can stay living in a pit of sewer that participated in creating.

Here is the thing, we can make minimum wage $25 an hour tomorrow and people will still be just as broke and poor tomorrow.

Accept these people are probably voting in government that makes it more difficult for the little guy to prosper and puts in regulations and policies that allow people to function just enough to run machines for the rest of their lives.

The only reason government is even trying to pull off national minimum wage in the stimulus bill is because government wants to increase their own revenue to prop up their corrupt banks and corporations that fill their piggy banks and also eliminate their competition for them making middle class broke so the Poly-ticks get more paychecks under the table.

I swear only in the US do you guys fight against implementing things that ultimately benefit everybody.

If any body can make the argument that they make more money off welfare than a job at Amazon, which literally rakes in billions per year, then the system is broken and the answer isn't to give people more welfare, its to make actually getting a job worth it.

No person should be living near poverty in a company which the founder is projected to be the first trillionaire.

And yet your answer will be to just "make a company yourself", as if competing against Amazon is actually a viable option.

Did you know that a lot of supermarkets will basically force small suppliers to sell at minimal profit or simply refuse to buy from them? When a company has that kind of power, everyone else gets trampled on.

If Amazon didnt rake in billions of dollars a year they wouldn't have become Amazon. Amazon, a company that made their own $15 hr/ wage, created 10s of thousands of higher paying jobs and 100s of thousands of independent people working from home making income on their platform.

So what you are saying is that minumum wage should go up, but Amazon pays more than double the national minimum wage and you claim their workers are still in poverty?

You can create a nice full time living using Amazon's 3rd party platform, so no its not easy to become Amazon, near impossible but 100s of thousands of people thank god (well Im an atheist, lol) Amazon got to where they are and liberated us from the grinds of working for other people unlike the walmart jobs you think should be propped up putting instant noodles on the shelf for more than thats worth.

Amazon did it AND it barely affected their bottom line, if anything they are making MORE money than ever.

If they can do it, what's the logic in saying the same wouldn't happen in other companies? Case studies have shown that when Amazon increased their wage to $15, smaller companies they were around were able to pay their employees more as well.

And thats not even socialism.

By the same token, Scandinavian countries are not socialist

I have enough work experience to know shyt workers (I was one for a long time) have nobody to blame but themselves. People waste time watching tv, smoking pot, drinking, wasting time on bodybuilding forums (ok, everything but that, lol) and do nothing to move their lives forward.

That's WAS the free market. If all private power companies wanted to charge you $1000 per day, you'd have no choice but to pay or simply go without.

Nestle even wanted to privatize water. The second that happens, watch the price of water skyrocket. How much do you pay for bottled water currently? Imagine that price as out of the tap prices.

That is so exciting! Congratulations indeed! You should do a part time low stress retail job somewhere that you enjoy buying product from. Do as little as possible (the standards are low these days) and just enjoy the employee discount! Meanwhile, simply treat it as a social event, and occasionally do something productive on your terms.

That’s what I’m going to do upon retirement!

Feels good right? Next month I am hanging up my armor and gun. My services side gigs have materialized into something quite big. So I could say I am retiring from that and going another direction. I am looking forward to it. 5 year gig minimum very lucrative. Now I wish I could find a way to minimize my effective tax rate until the pedophile is no longer president. Don’t want to contribute to the clown show right now. I need to have my daughter figure something out for me. Just need to park it until pedo joe is gone.

I need to find myself at least one side gig. You never know what good things can happen down the road! I’m thinking something illegal, yet not able to be challenged by our judiciary system. I should consult a democrat politician as a mentor to get the ball rolling.

It’s amusing to me how often political figures get caught up in these sexual harassment scandals out of nowhere. Why don’t we just focus on the fact that he’s a cowardly incompetent idiot that has no business being a governor?


Having said that, there are those who believe that the dems want Cuomo out because they have someone much worse waiting in the wings. 🙄

The problem with him is not that what he did was really so bad, but who he is as a leader being the nation's biggest social justice warrior and ferocious advocate of woman's rights. He is a total hypocrite and if Demicans in NY dont try to do anything they are going to lose seats in their primaries at minimum.

King Cumho is pretty much as bad as they get, Im sure there are worse they wouldnt mind propping up but after 10 years of him destroying my NY state fiscally and dismantlement our rights and liberties any change is welcome on my books.

But yeah, I dunno why this needs to be over woman, but over King Cumho being a shytty as governor and broke and violated many constitutional laws.

never say anyone or anything is as bad as they/it can get...in my 62 years i have thought people/things had to be as bad as they/it could get only to be proven wrong time after time....even today there is plenty of room for people/things to get WAY worse than they are.
