You could give Invalid Link Removed a look. It's a BCAA/EAA supplement with all micronized aminos for better absorption. It also has some caffeine in it to give you a boost during your workout.

For during workout support I like Morphogen Synthegen and Nutrabio Intrablast. Large doses per serving and when priced out per EAA content they seem to hold their own versus straight EAA products plus they have some extras that may be helpful.

These are top 2 IMO.

Gatorade powder.

Gatorade Powder + EAA is a great intra combo, as long as you can digest dextrose well. Some can’t, and end up spending more on designer carbs.

I do think I like Karbolyn and HBCD slightly better, but not enough to justify the cost. Nice treat I guess, but I’m like you and Gatorade powder works fine.

Gatorade powder.

Gatorade is just a bunch of high fructose corn syrup and dyes. There are much better carb powders out there, like Invalid Link Removed. It has a blend of quick and slow digesting carbs, along with Alpha-L-Polylactate which has been shown to aid recovery and increase endurance.

I used to use Cytomax all the time when I was bulking as my carb of choice during my workouts and it gave me so much extra energy. Throw in some Invalid Link Removed powder and you've got yourself an awesome intra workout drink.

FYI the powder is (IIRC) sugar + dextrose, which IMO is fine in the peri workout window.

I guess the power doesn't have the HFCS, only the premade drinks do.

Gatorade Powdered Drink Mix - LEMON-LIME 50.9 Oz
'SUGAR, DEXTROSE, CITRIC ACID, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SALT, SODIUM CITRATE, MONOPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, CALCIUM SILICATE, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, YELLOW 5.

Still Cytomax doesn't have dyes or plain old sugar. It has "Maltodextrin, Crystalline Fructose, Dextrose, Alpha-L-Polylactate" Malto is a slower acting carb, so you're replenishing your carb load, crystalline fructose and dextrose which are fast acting carbs. Dextrose is the same thing as glucose, so your body doesn't have to convert it in the liver from cane sugar to glucose, which is ideally what you want.

But, it would work in a pinch if that's all you could get your hands on I guess.

Then, if you want to get super technical with your carbs, there's waxy maize starch (mostly junk), and a ton of other *saccharides, polysaccharides, and on and on and on.

There's two other carb products I really liked using too. NutraBio makes a product called Invalid Link Removed that contains Branched Cyclic Dextrin, which you can read all about on their website, here:

Invalid Link Removed

And AllMax makes a product called Invalid Link Removed that contains a blend of different advanced carbs.

Invalid Link Removed

Then, if you really want to get crazy, there's Invalid Link Removed which is probably one of the most advanced carbs out there. It's really for people who work out twice a day. It's been so long since I've researched it, I forgot most of what they claim it can do. But, they explain everything on their website:

Here's some good articles on carb supplements that are worth a read.

Yeah, and the powder is certainly more economical. While I’m not well-versed on the potential negatives of dyes, I do wish the industry would just ditch them all together. The general population likes to see the different colors I guess.

I’d take Hexagen from Morphogen over Cytomax from a carbs perspective anyway if money isn’t a concern.

My 3 favorites ..

Nutrex EAA+ Hydration
SNS Energized Aminos
Nutraio EAA complex or INtraBlast

Some people claim dyes can cause hyperactivity in children, but I don't know if there's any science on that. But, it's just something I'd prefer to avoid if at all possible. Cytomax uses Tumeric as a food coloring agent. But yeah, people want their drinks to be blue, green, and red because it apparently matches the flavor in your brain with what you're drinking. That's why Crystal Pepsi was a failure. It tasted like a cola, but was clear, so people's brain's couldn't handle that advanced information so they thought it tasted weird.

I looked up Hexagen, and it's really a whole different beast than something like Cytomax. It contains creatine, Glycerol (which just gives you a temporary pump), and also that Cluster Dextrin that a couple of those above I mentioned have. Unfortunately, they include D-Ribose as a carb source, and D-Ribose has been known for a long time to be a total bust for what the claims they make for it are.

Here's what Will Brink has to say about it:

Conclusion

No significant interactions were observed in peak power, average power, torque, fatigue index, lactate, ammonia, glucose, or uric acid. Results indicate that oral ribose supplementation (10 g/d for 5 d) does not affect anaerobic exercise capacity or metabolic markers in trained subjects as evaluated in this study.

Because OP didn't ask for lectures on Carbohydrates and every time you post I feel like I've been transported back to BB.com in the 90s.

Fear mongering dyes, talking negatively about products you don't use but not even knowing what is in them, posting research from supplement companies when it is a product you like but talking negatively about that in other threads, etc.

I'll probably just put you on ignore because most of your posts just don't seem beneficial to me.

Bro, we're just having a friendly conversation/debate. I'm not trying to talk down to anyone, I'm not insulting anyone, or trying to tell people they're wrong or stupid for thinking something. We all have our opinions and we're just here to learn. The OP of the thread liked all my posts, so obviously he didn't think they were worthless.

As far as fearmongering, that wasn't my intention, and like I said, there's probably no science behind it, but it's just my personal opinion. You're more than welcome to put me on ignore if you don't like to read a discussion.

As I've mentioned in my other threads, I'm a skeptic. IMO, you want someone around to challenge your opinions and POV, otherwise you just get stuck in a bubble or echo chamber of your own thoughts.

I'm not trying to say one is better than the other or sh!t talk :) [...] I'm trying to look at it from a purely scientific perspective. I follow the skeptical ideology of Carl Sagan and his book Invalid Link Removed. For a quick overview, here is his Invalid Link Removed. I'm also a big fan of Quackwatch (although I think the author got too old and is no longer updating the site) as well as the book Invalid Link Removed. It's my personal opinion that probably 98% of all supplements are bullsh!t, and the 2% that work are simply under looked because people are looking for the next best thing..

However, if you want to put me on ignore, I'm sorry you feel that way, but that is, of course, your right to do so.

Synthegen looks very good. I am also interested in others lists. Many products are just BCAA sprinkled with EAA.

On the note of Gatorade powder, I hate the stuff. I use Super Carb intra with my EAA. I have tried Gatorade, but I get a huge, quick rush of energy and then crash. It happens with every sip, but if your body reacts well to it, go with it. It is cheaper.

I use micellar casein 20 grams first thing in the morning with hydro salmon to not have to sip on eaa.

It’s a blend how do we find Alpha-L-Polylactate as a stand alone ingredient? We can’t . I can’t at least. I like karbolyn around the workout with pqq and creatine, ketoba and l Babia because I have seen studies on it as a stand alone ingredient but I can’t find that with Alpha-L-Polylactate.

Cytosport doesn't sell it as a stand alone supplement, unfortunately. They own the patent on it, so they're the only ones that have the rights to it. But they only sell it in their Cytomax formula.

IMO nutrabio alpha EAA or Intrablast are both superb formulas. You definitely are getting what they say on the label and good flavor options.

Innovapharma EAA product is also very good as it gives quality doses of the EAAs. Unfortunately doesn’t have extra hydration goodies in it but from an amino acid standpoint is one of the very best

Stay away from anything that fails to breakdown the EAA doses on the label. So many products are just BCAA and some lysine with micro doses of the other EAAs at double the cost of a normal BCAA product

That's a good point. I've seen a lot of products sold as "amino acid formulas" and they list all the amino acids on the label, but when you look at the ingredients it's just whey protein concentrate and they're just listing all the aminos in whey and trying to claim like it's individual aminos. You want the ISOLATED amino acids if you're wanting to take an EAA/BCAA supplement.

Holy sh*t you guys are awesome!!

The answers are overwhelming and I will narrow down my choices and come up with 1-2 contenders.
Thank you all for your knowledge!

I have a few selected already 😃

If you look at the studies (provided below) you'll see that the ratios of EAAs that activate MPS the most is as follows:

Leucine 3,500mg
Phenylalanine 1,400mg
Lysine 1,200mg
Valine 1,000mg
Threonine 1,000mg
Isoleucine 800mg
Histidine 800mg
Methionine 300mg

Tryptophan 50mg

With that being said, the only intra/EAA supplement that has these ratios or close to them is Chemix EAA with Alpha Lion Gain-O-Rade coming in a close second (but you need to double the recommended serving size). I actually buy each amino on its own and weigh out the dosage to make my own intra with the precise dosages above. I mix in 25 grams of HBCD and sip throughout my workout and then again post-workout. Been doing this for years and I never drink protein shakes. The last time I had a protein shake was maybe around 2016 lol. I do eat plenty of protein-rich foods throughout the day though.

Studies:

(Børsheim et al, 2002)

(Kerksick et al, 2008 & Pasiakos et al, 2011)

I don't suppose you have the full names of the studies, or the PMID/DOI #s or just URLs? Not calling you out, but I'd actually like to take a look at them.

I read them many years ago so just google:

(Børsheim et al, 2002)
(Pasiakos et, al, 2011)
(Kerksick et al, 2008 & Pasiakos et al, 2011) and they will come up.

Stim option: SNS Energized Aminos

Stim Free: Mutant GEAAR, stay away from tigers blood flavor.

Keep in mind that the ratio companies use also has to do with the difficulty in flavoring some of the lesser aminos like methionine. Also, I think the ratio is less important when NOT in a vacuum of amino consumption. If you are eating 200+ grams of protein a day low histidine is not the end of the world.

Hmm... all my posts got mass downvoted. I guess somebody disagrees with me... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

bud, you need to discontinue the use of affiliate links - these are against the rules and are usually considered a form of spam on the forum. It's against the forum rules and is also disrespectful to the companies who invest in sponsoring this forum/community.

Lol
Poor Starscream66 .
You are helpful dude .... just a little eager.
I think you guys are ALL super cool and helpful 🙂👍🏻

I’m still searching for an amino intra.

Maybe purchase this weekend.

*** also wanting to find A nice new cycle support since AI sports discontinued their 2.0 WTF

Competitive Edge Labs has some pretty popular cycle support products

Which is why when I emailed them to see how that ingredient compares to a placebo and they don’t have any studies on it as a single ingredient :(
