Imagine living in the UK and not having any of the good US cookies till years later

I mean we still don’t have proper chips ahoy cookies

And we don’t get all the good m&m flavours either

And I love the caramel m&ms I had while in Florida.

Overall, UK desserts are significantly better than US ones, though.

People that are allergic to gluten are the pussies of the allergy world. Take it from us lactose people, eat it anyway.

Haha I used to rip on people for this but it is incredible how much better I feel since cutting grains and sugar out of my life. Gladly I don’t crave it anymore either! Only thing I really miss is pineapple I love pineapple

Nuts to that. Live life on the edge. Have a bowl of ice-cream and ruin your marriage.

I hope you mean that as a joke.

My allergy to gluten is much more severe than most. Many people aren’t aware that different types of gluten allergies exist.

I’ve been anaphylacticly allergic to soy protein since age17; had ate it all my life and at 17 amy throat swelled up and almost died.

In 2011, My blood markers were so bad I was referred to a rheumatologist at duke university that thought I had Lupus at first. I do not test positive for Celiac but for the autoimmune allergic reaction to gluten. My inflammation markers go through the roof, my connective tissues swell to the point I cannot fully extend my knees or elbows, and it causes an immune response that is very much like someone’s from an autoimmune condition like lupus. These symptoms can last for up to a month.

I am so sensitive to it that shaking your hand if you have it on you and then forgetting before I touch my mouth could lead to these severe health issues. My allergy is so severe that my allergist from the Mayo Clinic has used me as a subject in 2 different trials at UVA.

Yes, there are ppl that use a gluten allergy as an excuse to be trendy or whatnot but I can assure you that the ppl that have the autoimmune response are definitely not pussies bc it can make our lives an absolute living hell.

I do believe you were probably joking or had no idea how severe it could really be for some people; I never did myself before it happened to me. I respect and think a lot of you and my post isn’t just a reply to you; I went into detail for the ppl that may not know how severe this can be for some people in hopes that it can help someone else.

So yes, I miss Oreos. And Stromboli dang it

That’s wild man I’m sorry to hear that. I was aware of celiac, but not anything quite that severe. Must be rough, I had a coworker with a severe peanut allergy and that **** was crazy. Weren’t even allowed to bring peanuts into the building or anything

Thanks.

My soy protein allergy is like a peanut allergy in terms of reaction. Anaphylactic shock, throat swelling. That sucked bad enough. The gluten one has just made things so much harder.

I can imagine. Having to abstain from a food group wouldn’t be so bad, but having to completely avoid all contact is another story. Blessed to not currently have any food allergies myself. Oddly enough I had some bad reactions to coconut as a child and was even diagnosed, but one time in college I ate some without knowing and didn’t have any problems. Been eating it since with no issues so not sure what that was about. This is also my first spring/summer of my life that I’ve shown no ragweed/pollen allergy symptoms. Had that like a bitch my whole life, I truly think my diet is the reason that one went away.

Of course. I was making fun of lactose intolerant people, such as myself, for always eating what hurts us.

Gotcha. Yeah, I wish I could. When I first got diagnosed, I was kind of in denial I think and I would eat what I wanted sometimes. As it got progressively worse I can’t take any chances. I rarely can even eat out bc of cross contamination worries. It sucks. It’s bad to where I can’t even let ppl eat it in my vehicle and risk touching the seats. Few years ago one of the kids I mentor ate a snack at amusement park and got nervous in crowd and grabbed my hand. Wasn’t thinking and rubbed my mouth and had reaction; that was only time that day could’ve possible been exposed to it.

dang man, that is awful.

Yeah, it sucks. And if you look at things, soy protein is used a lot in foods for people allergic to gluten and gluten is used a lot in foods for people allergic to soy protein. So having to avoid both is extra hard.

I'm used to it for the most part now. Gluten free food has come a long way. Some of it I even like better than regular food. The hardest thing for me to get right was making gluten free stromboli because of the texture difference with gluten free flour and bread but I've been able to make some now that are close enough that it doesn't suck nearly as bad.
