Gaining muscles while losing fat. HGP tries the impossible, watch me fail!

Looks like abs to me

You know most serious bodybuilders are usually in their 20-30s right? They’re not going to have the visceral fat storage of someone who has lived nearly twice as long. The core basically always grows and strengthens over decades of training, it’s just how it is.

So, you are saying that I'm old. How dare you? :)
Also that middle finger
See? I knew a old-man comment was coming.
Looking good in those pics, but also looking so angry!
Wait how you'll look when every morning a different limb aches, you lost your hair on your head and have to shave your butt once a week. I always look that way -but deep down inside I'm giggling. :)
Looking Great Bro!!
Thank you!

Old and Angry............. Pretty much sums it up !!

Today was chest day.

@Hyde said BB reverse grip bench is dope.
Tried it. Even though I think its better than DB reverse presses, it didn't agree with my shoulders.
Pretty event less day.
-Flat BB bench 225lbs partials
-One armed DB press 65lbs
-DB flies
-push ups
-incline bench 225lbs TUT
-BW dips
-cable flies

Never tried reverse bench. Is it good for shoulder mechanics or does it have a great benefit on your chest than doing regular bench?

Some like it because its targeting chest better. I like it -but my right shoulder felt stressed doing it. It needs a spotter for lift off.

I used to do a lot of reverse grip benching, but I have a hard time getting my wrist to turn like that as I age.

DBs for reverse bench are most painless. Although a big wide reverse grip on BB is soooo satisfying. But a handoff is absolutely necessary.

Dante is a big proponent of regular grip incline smith benching... not really what you guys are talking about but this made me think of that if looking for more chest options
Yes. Since I started DC, the difference in Smythe and regular incline bench is huge. I love the smythe version. Gives me a much better and focused attack on my weak upper chest.

Back workout:

-Deadlift
-Incline under bench DB rows
-Kroc Rows
-Seated underhand row
-close grip lat pull down
-seated one armed row with chest stop
-Lat press down rope

Currently on ketogenic diet. No carbs for a few days. Going for a huge super compensation on Saturday.

Does this super compensation include bourbon and cheat meals?

You can also do with an ez curl bar. Not really wide enough to rack though depending on set up but you can probably go heavier than dumbells and the angled bar puts slightly less pressure on the wrists.

LIKE !

Seeing some new veins -and I swear, I look bigger than before the fast (3 month ago), even though my weight did not change. I can feel it using old T-shirts, filling them out more.
Looking at my pics -and progression, I think in pics, I look always the same, like a somewhat swole grandpa, no true progression like leaning out -or something.

Damn, have to double up my effort.

Haven’t been on for a bit so not seen your pics for 3 months, definitely looks like you’ve added some lean mass, shoulders appear fuller imo, abs definitely popping more than I recall seeing before. Looking pretty hench brother

Thanks, yep, I begin to look like I'm lifting. :)

Update

For some time I'm testing different eating strategies. I found out, conclusively, that carbs are not for me, unless from fruits.
I did:
-only carbs from beans = no change in body composition, holding weight, also holding water
-zero carbs days = way better physique and less weight (lost 8 pounds in 3 days, all water)but less muscle fullness
-Fruits+Veggies as only carb source = best. No bloat -but sufficient fullness of muscles, water weight stays off.

The moment I eat rice, noodles or potatoes, bam, 4-5 pounds up in water weight the next day, less definition and veins.

Have to face the hard truth: No carbs for me besides fruit. Now life has no meaning anymore.

Just don't forget, you are not a pro bodybuilder (yet) and sometimes you just need to enjoy life !!

Over the past three months I've (in a bit of a surprise for me) concluded that I actually need approx 150-200g carbs per days. I've eaten at that sort of level for a while, increasing a bit when trying to add mass and coming back down to there when cutting but recently took it down below 100g daily for a few months and actually couldn't lose weight at all, even at what completely should have been a deficit. Increasing carbs (plus getting back onto the CJC and MK) have seen me start to lean out nicely again, getting outline abs at 240lbs. Always thought low - no carb would be better for me, learning that maybe not.

My life is sedentary, besides gym -that is the main reason. I bet you move around more -hence better carb utilization.
I think I found out what "off season" means for the pro's. Off season = carbs.

Yesterday was legs/shoulders. All volume and masochistic timings.
Today is "retouch day" = a bit of everything with focus on arms.
Today is also "supercompensation day" = lots of carbs and protein + slin.

Well, super-compensation was a success. After slin, hard training and lots of carbs, I'm up 5 lbs in 6 hours and looking huge.

Crazy sh1t, I tell ya.

Daaaang! What about your end goal? Is it still going as plan? Lose fat and gain muscle.
Going in the right direction, still fiddling with type of carbs and timing of meals.
Its ALL about carbs from what I figured out, type of carbs, amount and when to eat.
Next week is "heavy weight week".
Gonna eat only fruits, veggies and meat for awhile, nothing else. Let see what happens.

Yeah I generally try to move a bit, average 15k steps a day, still run my 5k most mornings on cycle, started cycling (as in on a bike lol) off cycle as running was killing my ability to retain strength and it’ll fug my joints at my current weight.

You seem to have found a good path for your goals now though brother.....

You still hitting up them raves (and the local young ass)?

Running isn't my thing either.
Rave? YES! Next rave is in 7 days. Going with wife. Since she tried her first rave with some "x", she is hooked. Her taste for music changed dramatically. At 50 from rock -to hard techno and progressive psy trance, LOL. That's like from a animal rights activist to a butcher. Hahaha!

Just stopping in to say hi

Looking good HGP
A lot of progress since you introduced fasting. Muscle looks more conditioned

Bro this is huge. When you can learn how and when to manipulate carbs you can manipulate your body. I'm like you I find I do well with less carbs, higher protein and fat fruits/veggies. I also have to re-feed tho every so often to avoid being/looking depleted. You get to know your body well over time. Cool youre figuring it out.

HA! That was me 4 years ago!
What you said earlier: Muscle looks more conditioned... I figured that muscles need time to look more solid -or reach a certain maturity, so to speak. Slapping them on with roids isn't doing it -time is. By the time I'm 105 yo, they will look rock hard. :)
Will never get that lean like you in your avatar pic, no matter how hard I restrict carbs. I bet you are a cardio beast.

Haha, now your wife is into it some real fun times ahead. Although you never quite get the same feeling as your first time when two of you are on x the sex can be mind blowing.....(when you manage to get it up that is lol)

For sure bro a lot of "big guys" everywhere but conditioned muscle only comes through time discipline and training. You can get there man, one thing I noticed with the fasting (especially consistent intermittent fasting) is that my waist continuously got smaller and smaller over time. I realized how much undigested food we actually have in our gut just sitting there. I think after a solid year of IF you'll be surprised.

Hey man as far as cardio I do some. Maybe 15-25 min 3-4x a week before training? I just run on the treadmill for a mile or 2. They say heart/cardio benefits come at 15 min minimum. So I really do,it for that although it does burn that extra bit of fat I feel like. And I know you hate it I used to hate it too but just do it like 15 minutes (the raves dont count ) three or four times a week before your workouts. Doesn't have to be brutal and you don't have to run fast just get on there and jog. I think you'll be surprised over 6 months or so how much of a difference it makes

Have to get my lazy azz up and do as you suggested. Cardio, here I come! :)

Treadmill on max incline and a brisk walking pace is also effective.......
