A story of being bullied:
In High School as a 98 lb wrestler, and every day in the hallway a certain few football players took it upon themselves to demonstrate how they felt about the wrestling team by shoving me into the lockers as they walked by.

One Day:
One day, I was headed towards my math class and they got in my way, and began to start in again but this time they didn’t stop at just shoving me. They were upset because another wrestler had taken his frustrations out on one of their team members and beat him badly. They were intent on proving something to this kid.

Mathing!:
My math teacher came out and said, “You fellas need to be somewhere? because that’s my student and he’s late for class. Well that was a sty of execution for me, but in my mind, it made things worse. Now these guys were going to be gunning for me.

The matchup:
What I was not aware of, my math teacher spoke with the football coach as we sat for class, and both the football coach and wrestling coach met me in the hall after class. They had in tow the three kids who were picking on me. They told us to settle it on the mats in the wrestling room.

They looked as though they were going to tare me apart, but they didn’t count on having to abide by rules of conduct in a legitimate wrestling match. I took them apart easily, one by one. They couldn’t keep up.

In the end:
When it was all over, I had earned my place in that little school. Everyone sang my name when I walked into the gym during tournaments, or spontaneously in the hallway, groups of kids would just start up.

A part of a team and a lesson in life
Being a part of the wrestling team was just what I needed as a young, skinny kid with no apparent outlets for his energy. The discipline it offered, and camaraderie of my team mates, brought a structure and confidence to my life. I discovered how much I loved becoming stronger, and wanted to become as invincible as I could.

It made me respect myself, and how important standing up for one’s self and others really is in life.

I can relate to this. I was small in middle school. Hundred pounds soaking wet. Although I was a starter on the football and basketball team I was still somewhat bullied. One day they would be friends the next they were pushing me around, throwing stuff, making fun. When I got into high I moved to starter for the freshman football team. It was my first time really working out. I put on some good size for a 14-15 year old. First day of gym class one of my "bullies" was there. In the locker I guess he was trying to show who was boss and ridicule me in front of 40 kids. As soon as he grabbed I fought back and man handled him as much as a kid could do. He didn't know I was that much stronger. The look on his face as he hit the ground was priceless. Everything stopped that day.

Yeah. High School was a telling time of metal testing. So much abuse its ridiculous.

Glad to see you had your chance my man and stood up!

Funny story

I was weighing in before a tourney.

I recall a certain priest would be at weigh ins. I was like. Why are you here? You aren't a part of the wrestling faculty or team. Lmao.

Creepy.

You have to understand also. Our Baseball Coach married one of the cheerleader seniors too.

What a school. :D

On of the best science teachers I ever had through school knocked up a junior or senior. Can't remember how old she was. After he lost his job and everything else and did his stint in jail they got married. They're still married today. He's a janitor at a movie theater so I see him all the time. Sad

man that is an awesome story. I could see it in my mind. sad thing is I was probably one of those di ck head football players when I was in High school. I also took my licks on the mat. I had the wresting coach as my math teacher when I was a soph. I had just moved to this school and he told me to try wrestling. I showed up and got rubbed all over the mat. the guy that dragged me around the mat became my best friend and still is to this day! turned out he was a 3 time state champ. I was set-up.

Thanks Bro. You may have been, but like with me afterwards, I garnered some good friends on the football team, some of which crossed over to wrestling. It was cool after. As a token of love they hung me by my jock strap on the hooks in the wrestling room... the first time, the hook broke and the second time, it didn't ... Good times.

Inspired by this thread, I made this one to keep the solidarity rolling:

Those were the good times the pranks. my son didn't get to experience them in sports. the school put a coach in the locker room at all times to prevent it. they were getting a little carried away with some of the pranks. I was always respectful to the upper class men because i didn't want that to happen to me!

we did hold a a cocky punk on the team down covered him in Nair let it set for awhile and throw him in the shower. he even lost his eye brows and his hair looked like he had mange. we ran stadiums after practive for a week after that one. and then the Tape a guy to the toilet thing a few times.

Wow. My teammates duck taped another 98 pounder and tossed him into the girls locker room. There was hell to pay for that one. Tore his hair pretty good.

I was tossed outside in the snow with just my jock strap. Door locked automatically. I was stuck outside. Kicked and shattered the pain glass next to the door. Had to pay for that.

I love reading all this stuff. Some amzing stories in here. You just never know what drama some people go through to help create them.

I generally believe the world is a lot more tortured and depraved than people try to let on. Hence why lifting has become so important for so many of us - to help prevent new atrocities, and overcome what has already happened.

Ah man! Stink! Now I'm going to hold off on cracking open my last tub just a bit longer. If I may ask, is it due to the nitrates/patent thing?

Clumping issues
My guess.

One thing I do want to say.. Its crazy how so many of us have so many different stories. Its incredible how a hobby (lifting) can bring so many of us together in a relationship. Bring us together to a gym, and bring us together as a family. Not only is USP labs built off great prodcuts, they are built off a great consumer base as well. Not only are you getting things that can help your performance and gym output, they are also very giving to those who choose to support them. All of us in here are winners, all of us in here have found ways to improve our lives, and most important we all place our faith in a hobby (Lifting) to help us find a way to get rid of stress, external factors, and things that may be on our mind to improve our relationship in and out of the gym with friends, family members, and possibly some troubled things that have held us back in the past.

I personally know myself. The relationships I have built in the gym have made me a better person physically mentally and spiritually. I think almost all of us can agree on this.

well make sure you get us some deals on the old max reps before its gone. Ill stock up. its my favorite non-stim pre hands down.

Agreed, I've had I think three tubs in a row and it's still effective, love it. I get the clumps as well but it's worth it, lol

I always thought the clumps were concentrated gainzzzz

At my age of 56 I lift for my family's sake.

There is no freaking way I'm going into old age as an unhealthy and incapable man that can't even lift his grandchild! I firmly believe we are like sharks - when you stop moving, you start dying!

There are so many of my friends and family that are weak and unhealthy that they are going to need someone STRONG to rely on.

I'd rather go into old age with my eyes wide open and my strength in the ready.

You're our first winner today! Please see above post. Congratulations!

its like xmas morning up in here!

I lift for many of the reasons shared by my fellow AMers. I was a skinny runt of a kid in grade school through high school, constantly picked on. I worked out off and on until I fell down a flight of stairs and destroyed my dominant shoulder and severed my bicep. After a grueling surgery to repair/reattach I slumped into bad habits and gained a ton of weight to where my health suffered.

Along with all of that mental baggage (seriously, right?) my work changed and my stress levels went through the roof, enough to warrant therapy a couple of times a month. The tipping point for me was my daughter, who is now 9. Early last year I made a conscious decision to be around for her until she is an adult and on her own, and not let my health and anxiety issues drag me down. Plus my wife is 12 years younger than me, so I needed to get in better shape to be able to keep up with her and the rest of my family!

So I started exercising in earnest, overcoming my physical limitations (my shoulder will simply never be the same, nor will my L4, L5, S1 bulging, but thankfully not ruptured, spinal discs). A portion of my exercises take their lead from motions I learned during my physical therapy. The surgeon says it is never too late to try to recover at least some of my range of motion, and I have been able to see progress in both strength and ROM.

I am managing my stress much better now, my overall mood is improved, I am able to spend more time with my daughter without tiring out and I feel better about my self in general. I also send my therapist a Christmas card each year, but that is the extent of our interaction since I started lifting.

Bullet point reasons:

1. Skinny/picked on as a child
2. Major injury to recover from
3. Major weight gain to reverse
4. Younger wife to keep up with
5. Young daughter to be around for (and to protect from boys!)
6. Stressful job that I need to blow off steam/stress from

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Please DM me the deets.

I'm 53 and I have 4 reasons why I lift.

My four grandkids that I want to be around for. Lifting keeps me young, and allows me to be active with them. I've had my grand daughter in the gym already, and can't wait to introduce the boys to it.

Thanks for sharing, you're a winner!

This question has many answers for me, during the 25 years ive spent lifting weight it has changed alot.

  • I was a skinny kid doing track and field from the age of 6. My parents trained me and decided i needed to put on more size so they signed me up at a gym before i was 12. I fell in love with it at once but had alot of misconceptions about how training worked so I always overdid it.
  • At 18 I was in the army and out of boredom and curiousity i bought my first FLEX magazine and a whole other world opened up to me. I started to read about how to train correctly, how to eat and even how to supplement. I remember me and an army buddy ordering some amino from a magazine in Norway and got it shipped to the base. When it arrived we got called infront of the Major and asked what it was, they thought it was a kg of drugs.
  • After my time on the army was over i didnt go back to track and field, now I wanted to put on muscle above everything else. I was working a couple of jobs to get enough money for food and reading everything i could possibly find about trening, diet and supplements. This paid off but not as I had expected, the owner of the gym i worked out at approached me and offered me a job. The gym then paid for a full personal trainer "education" for me and I got to work with what i loved.
  • In 2006 Classic Bodybuilding showed up in competitions here in Europe and I thought that i might be able to compete. As a natural I was always to small for open so I figured if i ever were to compete this was it. I came in shape but was out sized and didnt place, but I did what I wanted and it felt great. I competed under the banner of a supplement webshop and after the show they offered me a job. So that was the second time working out had opened up a carrier path for me.
  • For the next 10 years i worked at this webshop. After a few years I was the CEO and had my hands full. During that time I made sure to get my workouts done and food in so that i could be the best representative for the company. I loved it more than ever becuase of great results and because my life was pleasant. But I was missing something..
  • In september of 2015 i got a PM from a swedish woman on Instagram. We has been following each other for years, never really talking just commenting and liking pictures. She had competed that same year and I always though she looked and sounded great. Well, apparently she though the same about me and had started following me becuase of my physique. We started to get to know each other and quickly realized that apperanced aside our personalities matched perfectly.
  • 3 months later i went for my second visit to her and decided to stay. So now lifting had given me what i was missing, a partner, soul mate and best friend. We got engaged 6 months later and Ive never been happier.

So why do I lift NOW? Because lifting STILL gives me the same feeling it did all those years ago. I feel strong, young, full of energy, it takes me back but it has also taken me where I am now. I have a fantastic fiancee and her (now our) two kids are young and full of energy so I need to be sure to take care of my body so that i can take care of them. Also if the trend continous maybe working out will make me win the lottery as well!

Winner, Please DM.

I was sitting on my deck today and thinking of this question again. Something was nipping at me and I couldn't quite place it until now. I actually had the time to sit and consider why I began lifting all those years ago. Before I came down to Florida and began my journey taking care of my parents, and losing all of those 60 lbs gained.

I started working out quite early in my childhood. It was a response to a relationship I had with my cousin and best friend Kenny. You see, Kenny had muscular dystrophy and we were inseparable. I would often go to his home and we as children would play in the pool, the only place where he could escape the braces on his legs. He inspired me then because he was really smart, and after enduring many painful surgeries had the great spirit of laughter that made me feel humbled yet honored to be his best friend.

Kenny passed away when he was 13, and it is a time that has been ever forged into my memory. They didn't permit me to see him in the hospital because he was in such a bad way, and they couldn't allow me to see this. I held anger for a while after this, but it was subdued from the effect of his death and the void it contained. It was soon after I began to commit myself to a form of self-punishment in an effort to justify my own existence and answer the question why not me? Why him? He was better than I was. I was fearful of the dark, and easily frightened, and he was brave and always cheerful.

When I entered High School, I decided to tryout fort he football team. It's funny because I was less than 90 lbs as a freshman. I proudly walked into the classroom where all the hopefuls gathered to see whom would be chosen. Almost immediately I was summoned to leave the room by the coach as he walked me next door... confused and intimidated, I just did. We entered a room full of what I would consider 'leftovers' or 'rejects' from the football team. It was the wrestling group, and the coach smiled when he spotted me. He said, I think we have our fill of 98 pounders! Your in kid!

Best thing that could have happened to me. This man took me in, and changed my life for the better since that one day. As a young man filled with vim and vinegar, I was given a way to channel my anger, and learn to control my fears. It was then, I learned how to lift properly, and it inspired me.

I asked for a 110lb weight set with a bench. The kind you fill with sand. That was a new beginning for me, and it offered me a challenge to overcome that superseded all other wasteful things such as anger. After lifting I found an inner peace that I had long yearned for, and it made me reflective. A reflection necessary to forgive myself for having that anger about my cousin's death. I could finally openly cry, and it was like a weight had been lifted from my soul.

I cannot and will not trade my alone time in the gym ever again. It has been and always will be a sanctuary where I can face the demons with strength, and conquer my fears. I'm not a religious person, but I am still allowed to believe in God, and Angels. My cousin watches over me, as do my parents, and I recognize how much it means in my life.

Thank you for the chance to reflect on an ironclad resolve I gifted to myself all those years ago. I couldn't have wished for anything better.

Edit: That was exhausting.
Plus: like I said before but wish to add. I've won my good share and don't wish to take away from anyone here. You're all so great and deserving.

If you were to consider me one of the winners I ask you consider another.

I would love it if USPlabs could send something to my brother in Chicago. Anything would be great. My post honors him as well. I don't want anything.

Thank you again for a great thread. That exercise made me feel as if I already won.

Winner...

Thank you USPlabs!

I'll say it again, you have got to be, in my experience, the most generous supplement company running the most interesting and positive discussions with great rewards. Not just the supplement kind, but you have helped to create one of the most epic threads. It should be made into a book. I'd buy it.
