The epic food porn thread

For the Price its pretty decent. I am old school I just make my own.
Mix roasted peanuts in a food processor for 10 minutes and its a done deal. No need to add anything else unless you want to customize it.

Invalid Link Removed discovered these today, didn't buy tho as I'm leaving town Monday.

Today's eats:
Invalid Link Removed the most disappointing donuts I've had in a long time. The place has an epic menu but they only have a few made each day so the selection is really hit or miss. The caramel apple fritter literally had no caramel or Apple. So pissed.

Invalid Link Removed this was awesome tho.

Invalid Link Removed Invalid Link Removedthis may be the greatest thing I've stumbled across in a very long time. I figured it would be ok at best as its low cal and a new brand but holy cow if this wasn't one of the top 5 best ice creams I've ever had. Caramel swirl and oatmeal cookies all through the super sweet caramel ice cream. Unbelievably good. Only knock is that it's not super creamy (Obv with the low cals) but it doesn't even matter as the taste and mix ins are off the charts. I'll probably go back and get all the other flavors they make (found at sprouts)

Will be going on an adventure to find this today, better be worth it lol. Says a Kroger a little ways away has some.

Anybody have any other decent low fat ice cream recommendations that don't taste terrible?

Invalid Link Removed they're like a year and some change late on that one... Malt-o-meal released something similar last March. That being said, I'll still pick up a box :P

And I've been waiting on someone reliable to review that oatmeal ice cream. I came across it last week and was waiting for someone to give it a shot. I'm just glad it wasn't a bust

One of my better photos to date,
Just because this CnC pancake stack was so damn photogenic ;)

That looks great! I love tuna, CC & broc but tell me that's not your cheat.

It's not a cheat meal if you're worried about the cals... A cheat SHOULD be higher. That's the point
This. If you stick to your macros it ain't s cheat.
Don't count cals on a cheat just be reasonable with your food selection if your really worried.

The rules:
It must be something you made or ate yourself
It must be amazing looking or tasting
Pics or it's not real

Feel free to post the recipes, macros, etc as I'm sure someone will ask anyways.

Not sure why this whole thing got to cheat meals... Thought I could just post good food.

Post any good food man,
I do.
I share more refeeds than cheats.

I think they are just genuinely concerned over your mentality towards a "cheat meal" here.
We've all been in places before where we got too anal to partake in indulgences.
But it's no fun lol, and many of us grew out of that.

If this works for you, party on sir
But if you are developing a poor relationship with food get out quick

This is exactly it. I loved your picture. That meal looks awesome to me and something I would eat even on a cheat day (I'm notorious for including excessive amounts of broccoli and Brussels sprouts in my own) but the thing we're trying to help with is the knowledge that a true cheat, should be completely void of the meticulous counting and "fear" that can come along with it.

I have a horrible relationship with food, and currently still do. Up until this past 8-9mo I've been a stereotypical yoyo dieter and would gain and lose 40-50lb every summer and winter. Cutting was nothing "unclean" and totally bro, while bulking was basically whatever (even if the cals were somewhat controlled or tracked). This year I've been able to balance a lot better than ever and am currently at the lowest bf I've ever been for this time of year in my entire life, enjoying the foods I want when I want, but still maintaining some sense of reason more often than not. It's all about balance and everyone has to find theirs.

Well I've been cutting pretty good I think, Jan. 12 250lb and now 235lb.

I let myself get bad out of shape so I've been trying to keep my nutrition super strict.

Although a couple weeks ago I did eat a ton of ribeye steak!

Personally for a cheat meal, that is a meal I consider "cheating" on a normal diet with.
A meal totally untracked or recorded for mental and psychological purposes.

You want a burrito with the works? A small pizza with all the fixings? Takeout Chinese? A big burger and fries that will likely eclipse your usual caloric intake at a meal then so be it

It is meant to cheat or replace a typical meal and move forward no harm and no foul.
Remember it's a meal, one meal won't make or break your progress . We are human none of us will make a living counting 230g protein or 300g of carbs a day. You need to find the balance and enjoy some good food in moderation

If you were going to be the next jay cutler or two weeks out from a photoshoot or show then it may be a different story in regards to cheat meals
For the general gym goer you will be missing out on a lot of social opportunities or gatherings thinking you cannot eat X or Y foods or can't have this or that in your lifetime without fretting over the calories Ina a single meal

All good advice. I like this thread because it's about enjoying great food every once in awhile. Not about strict dieting OR about constant binging.

But post whatever you want! I also agree that tuna meal looked on point!

I really appreciate all your guys input, kinda just thought you were busting my balls at first but I definitely get where your coming from now.

I always thought of a cheat meal as being about 500cals over maintenance, regardless of food choice, but I usually try to go with healthy foods.

Now that healthyish ice cream a few pages back... That peaked my interest!!

^ 500 over isn't even a refeed for some of us, but I used to have the same mentality that anything "unplanned or over daily allotted cals" was a "cheat" on my diet, for sure.

Have you ever tried making your own ice cream? Lifesaver on a cut for me

I love the article, The Cheat Meal Manifesto from T-Nation. I think the three guidelines laid out for a cheat are solid. I don't completely agree with making it the last meal, but I do agree to giving the cheat meal a small time window, maybe a dinner out with friends, just to enjoy yourself.

Three Cheat Meal Guidelines
It's a little more sophisticated than just "eat a bunch of crap," but not by much. When implementing a full-on cheat meal – as opposed to a carbohydrate re-feed, I typically use the following guidelines with my clients:

Have the cheat meal replace the last meal of that day. This keeps you from extending the cheat and ruining a whole day of eating.

Keep it around 45 to 60 minutes. Again, this keeps you from making it an all-out binge that will set back your progress rather than accelerating it.
Other than that, have whatever you want, as much as you want.

Have your cheat meal the night before you train a large (or weak) body part, like legs or back.

The additional glycogen and fullness will ensure that you have an awesome, powerful training session. Some people like to have the cheat meal after a big training session in the hopes of aiding recovery. That can work as well, but my preference is the night before.

Ice cream, no, I've not ventured into that area of culinary art. I've not done enough research on the cheat&refeeed strategies so I guess I'm going to have to do some experimenting. The cheat meal manifesto above^^ was a great read and I appreciate the link Ant.

The reason with the last meal is this.
Most people can't control themselves during a cheat if they are unfamiliar with it.
Give someone who diets for 16 weeks the green light to eat a pizza, and they will most likely eat the whole thing and ignore any rule of moderation or portion control.
If you put this as your last meal, once you are done you are done. No more eating, no more calories. Go to bed and the cheat is over with.
For those who cheat earlier in the day it could lead to a downward spiral and cause for more bad decisions as the day prolongs. Instead of 1 bad meal, it turns into 2, or turns into 3. Or it turns into 1 bad meal and then a 24 hour binge of eating whatever because they cannot control themselves.

There is fine art of balance and moderation. When one is fitness oriented they tend to go the extra mile if they restrict themselves to X or Y foods, or "Clean" foods and totally cut food sources out causing them to overindulge.

Definitely a good read... My personal cheat meal/day typically follows a naturally limiting schedule as i have a voracious appetite, and like i said, a fairly gluttonous and bad relationship with food...

I usually fast til 4pm or so each day anyways, but on cheat days I usually try to hold out a bit longer, then I make sure to start my cheat with a good sized portion of healthy foods. This doesn't mean bland, but somethng like a spaghetti squash, lots of veggies, and a good bit of chicken. Once I've finished that, then I begin working through the "whatever I want" phase... since I've already eaten quite a bit, the physical limitations of my stomach help to limit the damage I could even possibly do. Works for me
