Types of carbs and when??

So I always thought something like oats/brown rice with some protein an hour to hour 1/2 before exercise was best. Following with fast digesting carbs with protein soon after workout to replenish and force all the nutrients back in to the muscle.

I've been reading more recently people also drink fast digesting carbs pre and intra workout. Is this more for better energy during the workout?

So does it really matter or is it just what works for you?

For pre/intra, either is fine really. It boils down to what will allow for you to maintain maximum intensity in the gym. That is what's important here

For post, get some type of carbs and protein in. The sooner will most likely be better and while fast carbs may not be be necessarily required, I would take advantage of the opportunity to indulge some and enjoy some simple carbs here

I always prefer a slower digesting carb source about an hour before training. Intra carbs can have their benefits, but they're not necessary. I feel that my performance is 100% without an intraworkout carb source, but others swear by it. Post I follow what JudoJosh said and use that as a time to have some sugary cereal or faster digesting carbs.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't make too much of difference. Do what works best for you, and find a routine that you enjoy and that you'll be able to adhere to

It depends on how you respond. I don't think it's nearly as black and white as some people say. Same thing with intra-bcaa products. Same thing with hydration drinks. There is no one sized fits all, no matter what science says or doesn't say about it with studies. You have to figure out what foods work for your individual body chemistry and reaction.

Why the jab at science?

For the record, science doesn't ever say something is black and white or that X will always happen. It doesn't really make absolute claims. It makes very nuanced and contextual grey claims. People who don't understand science and pretend to on the internet are the ones you should ignore, not the science itself.

I was saying that some people say draw conclusions based on a single study and make absolute claims based on it. Not the science itself, but the way people interpret it.
