***Log L5/S1 - Slipped disc - Injury, Operation and Recovery Log

Merry Christmas though bro!!! Same here I had to skip a bunch, since a minor cold could drop me in the hospital. Still, we are above ground, and will (hopefully) be able to get back in the gym soon.

Ye happy Xmas mate! I think I've done too much lately, I'm aching like a bitch nd leg pain coming back on. Lucky you, I can't wait to get back in the gym

Sunday 27/12/15 - 5 weeks post 2nd op

I think I have been doing too much lately and too many car journeys, my calf is flaring up in pain today and my back itself is hurting a lot, which doesn't often hurt tbh.
Going to rest and ice for next few days now

I'm not sure on your stance on peptides but I can tell you from experience that TB 500 helped tremendously with my l3 l4, l4 l5, l5 s1 levels all of which have less that half a millimeter between them and my l5 s1 shifts over to the right extremely far several times a year and have been avoiding surgery. They want to do the plate that will hold all three together. I'm sorry to hear about your surgery over the holidays, I spent Thanksgiving in the hospital and then Christmas Eve also in the hospital as well so I know what that's like and it freaking blows. All I can tell you is my saving grace is Tb 500 for healing and inflammation and arthritis pain. That stuff is a godsend and I'm guessing it will be rx before too long.
BEST OF LUCK AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
PS- message me if u have Any questions. Also, suma seems to have a very good healing effect (ecdysterone is my guess) to it as well for me. Best of luck!!!

Tbh I would love to try it but I don't inject, so unfortunately I won't be able to. I really wish they did more in oral or transdermal form

Sunday 3/01/16 - 42 days post 2nd op

Over Xmas and new year I have had ups and downs, on the whole I think it is improving. I'm itching to get back in the gym but still got two weeks until the surgeon will hopefully sign me off for physio

DermaMag is a magnesium spray I love for general aches and pains, may be helpful to you when doc does sign off.

Happy new year bro! Ye I hope this one is the polar opposite of last!!
Ye I hope so, I need to sort out whatever is causing my calf pain. How is your back pain?

Much much better. I actually (finally) feel pretty good. 10 more days of antibiotics just to make sure and then I am cleared to start very slowly making my way back into the gym

That's great news. Pleased for you.. I cannot wait to just be pain free, I think mine is nerve inflammation aswell as cramping on the nerve in my ass. I never ever thought this would happen to me, I don't even deadlift ffs lol

Friday 8/1/16 - 47 days post op

I feel as if I am improving day by day, I have started stretching 3-4 times a day, my piriformis especially and taking naproxen. I never took it before coz it affected my asthma, but now I think it is def helping.

I loooove naproxen. I personally think aleeve liquid gels are a bit better than the rx dose I was prescribed, just my opinion tho. And the rx ones gave a weird feeling in the head too. Aleeve liquid gels for life!
Keep it up bro, I am very happy you are logging this as I (and many others I presume) will be facing the same thing soon enough. Put off for 7yrs so far. So tyvm brother and hang tough! Hoorah

Good news to hear!!! I am glad it is helping! I just did my first 'real' workout back. Benched 225 for 5x5.... Very humbling because I benched well over 400 when I stopped. Also did leg press and was amazed how weak I was.... But our sport in a marathon not a sprint.
When do you get to be back in the gym bro?

Glad to hear you are back in the gym pal! Keep it up. I was at the surgeon today and I am to try physio and if that doesn't work then it's fusion.... I have had a terrible day of pain today tho. Very disheartening.
Ye I am gonna be so weak but it's a starting point hey

Yeah try the physio, from my understanding fusions are rough :(

I am having what feels like the beginning of the same symptoms in my left leg now too
Man, that sucks bro. I hope they can find a way to calm the nerve down, but if fusion is your only choice, you may have to move forward with it :(

Think I walked too far the other day. I haven't walked further than 1.5miles in a day since my op. The other day I did two 2 milers. Prob over did it. I have pain an inch or two above my incision but on the opposite side, it is so tight and goes on for another 2-3 inches up my back. No idea why that is. I am beginning to think it's gonna be a fusion. I'm so depressed with it all

Hmmmm.... Up generally doesn't mean a disc issue (per my doc).... Maybe an infection? Have they done another MRI? I would go that way. I understand the depression bro, I JUST stopped taking an extremely powerful antibiotic where I couldnt eat a ton of foods, and I am still weaning of opiates.... It's like back surgeries change everything for a long time. However, if it is a fusion, there is a guy at my gym who had one and benches 500 pounds.... It isn't a death sentence (in terms of lifting)

I personally think I have inflamed facet joints and piriformis syndrome. The facets cannot take constant extension, which we obviously do to try and push our disc back in before we did surgery. It's like they have seized up and I cannot move at all..... Ye I've had an X-ray and awaiting another MRI and seeing him again in 8 weeks. Ye it's just the constant pain that can be a possibility with a fusion that puts me off. I am pretty certain something is going on tho, whether it is a reherniation, facet joints swollen or nerve route swollen. It's a bitch when there can be so many different problems.

Yeah I'm not sure bro.... Back pain is a bitch for sure. I hope it starts to get better. Until it does, maybe stronger meds?

I rested yesterday and didn't stretch or anything and actually felt abit better today, but I have pulled something or hope it's just pulled. In my leg or hip although is radianting down my leg. Happened when side stepping, very bizarre

Pls message me. I hate to hear you suffer and there are so many ways to heal that drs won't tell you and even the most extensive research won't find. I've been through everything But surgery and they've wanted to since I was 19 yrs old (31 at end of mo). Now you've had it done, and that's actually a good thing. Now let's get you off those heavy meds- and yes it can be done. Was on dilaudid 4mg as much as I wanted, perc 10's, morphine 100, flexerill, soma, etc etc etc. Now I use neurontin/ gabapentin (nerve "blocking" agent) and Zanaflex/tizanidine (actual muscle relaxant) and that works better than damn near any of those pain meds. And pls try l-theanine at high doses + gaba instead of your Valium. Basically duplicating the same exact mechanism and may find you like it more. And I have days of this info. Hmu anytime. I'm not AM A lot, but I will hopefully see it in my email. Been following out of empathy. Hang tough soldier, you can make it!

Ps- oh snap- totally forgot Kratom!

Hi bud. I am taking gabapentin and robaflavin 750 now. I am off the Valium coz it was an addictive drug and wanted rid. I know there is even a lot of natural stuff that can help, it's just finding it. I'm taking some natural supplement called Kapparest, seems pretty good for inflammation.... It so draining tho, I can wake up dif every single morning. Appreciate your chat bro

Check out 95% curcuminoids from turmeric for inflamation and pain, and kratom is just as good as some vicodin or percocet if u got the right stuff. Message me for a good site for wtvr you need.

Friday 22/01/16 - 61 days post op

I am still suffering from sciatica and leg pain everyday, I have got left leg pain and sciatica over the last few weeks as well.

Very depressing, nhs taking forever to give me physio so going to go private and get my ass into gear. I need get my core stronger, when I tense my core the pain seems to get better. I've got 8 weeks to see an improvement before a fusion. On one hand I think I should just get the bad and degenerated disc out and get a fusion. Be a lot easier and save a return operation in the probably near future

Tuesday 02/02/16 72days post op

I started physio last week which was good, got a few gentle exercises to target my glute as that has become very weak.
I feel like I am getting better but I still have quite bad back pain.

Feeling positive though, I am driving again and living more of a normal life

Great news bro!!! Keep going slow

Update

So I've been off here a while, been working hard at rehab. It seems I am turning a corner atm.

I had a mri scan yesterday but don't get results for a few weeks.

I am still getting twinges and sciatica occasionally, but nowhere near as much as before. I could maybe do with an epidural but I am happy with how I'm getting on for the first time since my op!

Onwards and upwards!!

Hell yes, good news brother. Keep the faith. It'd always gonna suck. Just a matter of how much. And could always be worse, you could be me! Keep that head up sir!

Good news bro!!! My back is always a little sore too, but it will get better. I just pressed 405 again, so it will come back pretty fast

Find out Tuesday what the latest MRI says, had quite a lot of left leg discomfort lately. Hope to god the left side isn't going

Stretch my brother. Stretching is key. I have a Very small nerve passage way on my left hip bone that causes burning sensations and other crappy stuff that they always thought was low back. Just found out a fee months ago and have been treated for my DDD in low spine, l3/l4, l4/l5, l5/s1. But nerp, nerve canal pathway. MRI is great tool, just have to find a doc that is competent and gives a rats ass about your case.
Glad you have recovered this well so far. Keeping head happy is More than half the battle.
Ps- one thing I've found to be an Awesome lil helper is kava kava by gsl and it's super cheap too. Liquidations outlet.com or ebay will get you a good price. Nice and strong. Helps w muscle spasms, and general anxiety from being in pain all the damn time, and sleep as well. Esp anxiety attacks if u ever have em.
Message me and let's catch up on how your doing, what u been doing and all that good ****. Keep the faith my brother

Saw the surgeon on Tuesday, the mri shows a lot of scar tissue that has also managed to find its way through to my left side nerve root, hence the left leg pain now. I am having another epidural in a few weeks to try and help.

Have the EXACT SAME thing. You right handed/right dominant? If so, prolly why. Chiro/pt guy said it's bc of how we walk and stuff like that. Idk how much truth there is tk it, but I have the same damn thing and get "fire thigh" if I lay flat for too long and **** shooting down. Neurontin is a godsend as far as that **** is concerned imo. Lmk. Been keeping up as im.alswayd interested to see how you and others are doing. Keep up the Hard work. No one appreciates it except you when you get to go do normal things and they don't hurt That bad. Best of luck my friend. Message/email anytime.
Ps- kava kava & l theanine have also been of great help. Feel free to ask why how where etc

I'm slowly weaning off the medication, I need it more after a day of hard physio or the nerve gliding exercises tho, like today, I did a lot of nerve gliding yesterday and feelin it today

I wrote a full response and then you just told me I was not logged in so I'm not going to go through the trouble of writing it again but basically just keep doing what you're doing and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Also there's a combination of natural remedies that will help numb the nerve pain, and those that will help in regeneration on the nerves. At this point I'd focus on the pain aspect as many have lost nerve sensation and still function 99%. B6 is a great one. Helps w prolactin too. Anyways, best of luck and look into l-dopa 99% for relief and regeneration I believe. Take care and hang in there brother.

So just an update, I am now over 5 months on, still waiting to have my 2nd Epidural.

I seem to have plateaued, not getting any better or any worse atm, my nervous system is very very tight and I struggle alot on the mornings. Once I am loosened up tho I do feel better

ATM I am struggling with Extension, so I am giving that a miss for the time being.

I am back in the gym doing cardio and machine weights, nothing too crazy

Hi guys, I need to see my doctor soon, but just wanted opinions in here. I have some likely damage to my upper and lower T-spine - upper damage is where the T-spine meets the neck, and lower damage is where the T-spine meets the lumbar (and also suspected damage by my doc IN my lumbar spine), three areas that have been bothering me, and I can even pinpoint the discs with my fingers and find the source of pain.

If I require surgery at some point, is it possible (or best) for them to fix both during the same op, by making separate incisions? Is this a standard op to fix multiple areas? Or would they schedule separate ops?

Also, in the meantime, will GH/TB-500/BPC-157/IGF help at all? Right now I've been taking flexoril and doing PT. But I can tell it's slowly getting worse over time.

hi MID just read over the thread, i have just been put on the waiting list for microdiscectomy surgery on my l4/l5 disc thats herniated causing impingement on the l5 nerve root, this is after months of pain during which I had an epidural steriod injection in Feb 2016 which was very good for pain relief but only lasted a month so have now been offered either another injection or surgery so I decided its gonna be surgery to get free from this pain but having read about yours and Jriddick's problems post surgery i am seriously considering just having the injections every few months, I think you can have 3 per year, any thoughts from either of you guys would be much appreciated. I am currently in constant pain and taking codeine, paracetomol, gabapentin and have amitriptlyn at night.
