The Arachidonic Acid Help Guide

thanks, i'm in my 8th workout, with ArA only, when should you start to feel some of the effects? I am taking 4 around 5 min before I workout

Most start noticing around week 2-3.

I personally start really seeing changes around week 4-5.

This is from personal experience, but I notice ArA still having an effect roughly 14-21 days post ArA dosing. By this I mean, muscle fullness, strength, and body composition still changing.

So personally, I hold off. But then again, I haven't dosed with fish oil for a good minute now.

So I'm going to hold off on fish oil for at least a week after my ArA run. However, when I'm done ArA does this mean that the moment I bring in food that negates ArA (such as fish or almonds etc) it will disrupt the prolonged effects after ceasing use? Like, if I stop ArA and a few days pass and I'm still having the effects, then I take say fish oil for one day, the effects will no longer take place from that day forward?

Hello-

Just started my ARA run few days ago, and I noticed that the caps smell kinda bad? also they are a little "wet" not dry caps like other pills such as clear muscle/multi vitamin etc etc? Is that normal?

I think X factor is like oily pills but my x-gels don't smell and they aren't oily at all they're normal soft gels

What brand of ARA did you pick up? Ara is an oil, kinda like fish, and so the caps are "soft" as opposed to pills.

Now you're starting to over analyze things.

Simply do your ArA run and enjoy the benefits. I personally don't use fish oil (omega 3 foods) during my duration or 2-3 weeks post ArA. No evidence behind that, just preference.

How do you guys feel about only taking ARA on certain lifting days where a lacking body part is being worked? If so, I would be taking ARA for 3 days a week but spread out with as much as 3 days between some doses. Does ARA have to be taken more frequently than that to have positive effects?

The effects are more cumulative than acute so dosing on a particular day won't matter all that much. Systemic buildup will pretty much ensure even gains regardless. It's not like only the muscle that absorbs the ara gets it all and makes the gains.

I usually recommend 4 days a week minimum. I can't back that up with any studies/science but it's just my personal take. I take it 4 times a week and always have good results.

when do strength gains start to kick in for you?

Usually starts to hit during week 3 or so.

I take it with ALCAR and GMS though so not sure if that makes it kick in any faster.

SNS ALCAR and Glycer Grow are very cheap.

last time i ran xgels the verdict was to dose 30-45 mins pre workout fasted.

is this still the most effective way?

looking to give this another shot

Sure is! Good luck for your run

Hey fellas may have been answered but theres 70 pages here. Anyone use all three(x gels, XF, XFA) I like xfactor better then XFA but yet to try xgels. any feedback for someone who has tried all 3?

I have... ran XFA first, and saw ok, not stellar results. zero sides. Ran that directly into XF and results were bascially the same, . Xgels was next and this I saw the best gains but also did have some joint aches around week 6 or so. Nothing brutal, but defintiely told me there was more going on than with the XF/XFA (though this had fish oil which should have limited the effect anyways). Honestly, I would run either XF or xgels again, but saw the most from xgels so will sick to that personally.

Thanks man they have been the one I have been looking into

Main concensus, run X-Gels or XF if you don't notice any joint issues, headaches, or any other negatives.

Run XFA if you notice any of the above.

I have ran both, and X-Gels or XF > XFA IMO but I would honestly run XFA again just to compare and pay closer attention.

Learning about ARA in my biochem class right now. Should we be concerned about blood clotting?

Ara plays a role in important pathways in the body, but supplementing with it isnt the same as it being expressed for other reasons

You will read a lot of misleading/negative information on ArA and blood clotting.

If used correctly and no pre-diagnosed issues, it is fine.

What about a pre existing DVT that was treated with warfarin a few years back?

Caused because of surgery, not health related. Still have narrowing of the vein of my left leg in a few places.

That is somewhat risky imo.. Dvts are no joke.

guys I know you are supposed to be dosing fish oil as far away from ArA as possible...now the last few days I've had salmon post workout ...is this a bad idea;P?

Lol you will be fine man. Supplement around your diet, never diet around your supplements.

It *could* have a minor effect. I would not worry.

Hi guys, just a quick update, just finished my first bottle taking 4 pills 4 times a week 5min before workout and I am loving it. I have a feeling of fullness all the time, even when waking up and also gains some lean size as well...thumbs up and still have a bottle left

It only gets better too. That's my favorite part

5 min before workout? thought it was the best to do it 30 min before workout?

Over complicating it. Just get the dose in sometime pre workout or during warm up sets.

Thinking of starting to use ARA and PA (in the form of fearn soy lecithin) but i had a couple of questions:

1. I have heard that soy lecithin can be used as an emulsifier instead of GMS. Is this true?

2. I normally have a pre-workout snack (protein and carbs) 30-60 minutes before my workout and then start consuming a carb and protein mix drink 10 minutes prior and during my workout. when is the best time for me to take ARA and PA in my situation?

Thanks a lot guys, new to this site and have found a ton of new supps and information on them, looking forward to trying this combo

1) yes
2) take ArA after you complete your warm ups.

Spot on.

Ara will be best absorbed preferentially into muscle tissue if you take it either fasted or just after starting your workout (when your muscles begin soaking up anything). Pa you can take pretty much whenever pre workout but for simplicity of just take it with the ara.

but isnt the best time to take PA approximately one hour pre workout? just trying to figure out the best option. is ARA ok to take 1-1.5 hours before my workout while im in fasted state before i eat my preworkout snack? or should i take PA one hour pre and then ARA at the start of my workout but still use GMS when i take it?

I would take your Soy Lecithin (concentrated PA won't work. Need the fat from SL) with your PWO as you walk out the door. And ArA after you've warmed up at the gym.
Skipping the snack would be ideal tho

well, you would lose most of the emulsification effect if you dose it too far away as itll be mostly digested by then... IIRC (not a SL expert b any means) PA doesn't really need to be dosed immediately pre as its not just acutely effective.

Taking ara before your meal wouldn't be optimal as when you eat it creates the situation you're trying to avoid where the ara can be shuttled to places other than your muscles.

Take the ara after warmups, take the SL when its convenient, but for optimal synergy, with the ara. Its not going to make or break your cycle either way so go for convenience, but if you have to choose one thing to definintely DO, take the ara at the right time.

thanks for the quick responses guys, thinking ill take your advice and just skip the snack so i can take the PA and ARA together preworkout fasted for best results

'In principle, exogenous arachidonic acid might be metabolized by cellular oxygenases either in its original form or following esterification and release. To address the question of whether the added substrate is oxidized directly or after cycling through the membrane lipids, we have used mass spectrometry. The method takes advantage of the fact that when cells are incubated in water labeled with the heavy isotope of oxygen, H218O, any fatty acid released from esterified stores will pick up an 18O label in its carboxyl group.
The 18O label is completely stable under physiological conditions and under routine conditions of lipid extraction and analysis, including mass spectrometric analysis. Therefore, by measuring the molecular weight of the free fatty acid (or its prostaglandin or leukotriene products), it is readily apparent whether the product was formed from an ester or from a free fatty acid that had never been esterified. We employed this method to examine the fate of exogenous arachidonic acid during leukotriene biosynthesis in leukocytes. We found, as expected, that in the absence of added arachidonic acid the 5-HETE product of the leukocyte 5-LOX contained an 18O label. This confirms that stored arachidonate ester was hydrolyzed to form the substrate for the LOX. By contrast, when 5 μM or 50 μM deuterated arachidonic acid was added along with the ionophore, the deuterated 5-HETE formed from the exogenous substrate contained only a small percentage of 18O label, indicating that mainly the added arachidonic acid was used directly, without any prior esterification.' (Alan R. Brash)

Interpreting this information I would highly suggest pre workout would be most beneficial time for optimal responsiveness to the supplement when esterification into the muscle phospholipid is ultimately unnecessary.
