This whole story is far too close to home for me. Depression is real. Some of us who are in this thing we call a sport or lifestyle can be most critical of ourselves and we experience deep regret and shame from our mistakes as well as own the pain from abuses that have been perpetrated upon us. I am speaking directly from personal experiences that still haunt me today. To anyone interested...We finally got result of toxicology report back after 4 long months. Cause of death was ruled a suicide cause by multiple drugs (have not seen which specific ones yet) and alcohol combination.
I do not know if depression is common among this community but i do know that Steve suffered depression for many years. If you are suicidal please seek help. If you can't do it for yourself, do it for your spouse, your kids, your family,.. there is always a reason to live and a reason that each one of us are here.
Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers. i know that Steve felt the same way about you all that you felt about him. He will be missed here and by his children. Who unfortunately are not doing to well after having this news confirmed yesterday. Prayers for them would be much appreciated.

I mean no disrespect in any way and I preface this statement as such in regard to the bolded. Although he may have died from an overdose and it may be ruled a suicide it may be an accident. We users of "supplements"believe we know what we are doing chemically and our threshold for substances. I have been in very dark places in my life where I have done (consumed) things that had they been fatal it may have appeared that I intended to harm myself. There have been times in my life that my threshold for my pain was so greatly exceeded and my self medication could have been fatal. Its only by the grace of God that they were not.
I sincerely want this to be an accident - for you, your son and his loved ones.
I can't emphasize how sorry I am for you and your family and even more for Steve. God's peace to you and yours.
I'm sure you know more than we do.I wish it were an accident. SIX boxes of allergy medication plus other drugs and alcohol unfortunately is not an accident it is clearly intentional.
My hope is that Steve is finally at peace wherever he is and that someday Dakota and Ashley can make peace with themselves knowing that it was not their fault but that their dad did the best he could for as long as he could.
I'm sure you know more than we do.
The reason I brought it us is that my depression could ironically cause insomnia. Additionally some things that some guys use can cause insomnia and they often use Benadryl as well. Even further some use or cycle Benadryl to counter sides from some things they use.
If there indeed 6 boxes were consumed at once concurrent with alcohol as well as the unspecified drugs you speak of it does unfortunately sound less likely to be an accident. Sorry.
I can not believe that I am just hearing about this... Songs was there from day 1 for me. He was there to encourage, critique and laugh at every step.
very sad
i really miss talking tennis with steve, we shared a passion for the sport. i know he was really happy when his son became involved in the game and i hope he continues to play, i am pretty sure steve would like that.
i agree, he would like it. i hope i can get Dakota out this year playing tennis. For him and for me cuz i love to play and have no one to play with as Steve was my competition.
lol...he said he was getting pretty good!!!
yes, i hope you and dakota continue to play, steve was an avid fan....i know how you feel, i don't have anyone to seriously talk tennis with now and french open is coming soon. be nice if roger could win, i know steve would have liked that!!!
with his bulk and muscularity i was always amazed that steve never pulled a hammy or calf muscle!!!he was good especially for his size. My strength was i could return almost everything. My weakness serve to slow. His strength he never quit. His weakness was his temper but he improved greatly on that last season. I'll miss his updates on the French... he always let me know who was playing when, who won and recorded highlights and some matches for me. Still have dream of going to an open someday. Steve would def want Roger to win.

rafa has to be the favorite with novak a close 2nd...rafa is basically a grinder and novak a technician but roger has more tennis skill than either, imo, but he has lost a step or 2 with age!!!
Raf has been my fave since he started. Don't like Jokes attitude most of the time (was a lil better last i saw him). Roger does have more skill than anyone. Raf has the court advantage tho.Age will do that to you. Hate to see what it has done to me just over the winter (if i play this year)
lol....don't talk to me about age!!!!:yikes:
why is that? If you play tennis you can't be 'old'. Age is nothing but a number. Still young at heart, just hope my body knows that.
i am 57 and it does catch up with you, lol!!! i've been playing tennis and lifting weights since before high school and played football which didn't help. BUT i am still out there plugging away!!!
You are OLD !!
I feel motivated to start playing again after saying good bye to my old boss (whom I used to play) and touching base with colleagues as well as reading the threads about Steve's passion for tennis.

was not to be...i was really happy with his performance and even moreso with the sportmanslike conduct....to bad the nba can't take a page out of rogers playbook on how to conduct yourself during a major sporting event. roger is a real class act!!!
Cheers to that!
nice to see this thread is staying active, steve was a real force here at AM, i believe in an afterlife and hopefully steve is looking down with a smile on his face!!!

While we're doing sportsmanship lessons, maybe he can straighten out that Kyrgios clown while he's at it.
he is an absolute assclown!!!
Tomic arse clowness > Kyrgios arse clowness. We sure know how to breed them down here.
tomic seems to be improving his behavior, at least in front of the cameras...it's a shame kyrgios acts so badly, he is a very talented player.
Maybe on field, buttttt.

I got my squat PR in for Steve this morning!
He'd throw a can at you right now if he knew you were eating from a can...
