The more I look at huperzine the more fascinating it becomes. One thing is for certain, huperzine is, in fact, a potent drug--more potent and longer acting than two of the most common pharmaceutical acetylcholinesterase inhibitors! I've been digesting information for hours now about huperzine. I'll comment later after I clear up some questions I have. I'll leave you with this:
1) 200 mcg. of huperzine 30 min. before bed increases REM sleep by 20-30%!
People really should not think of huperzine as an innocuous herb; it has a number of powerful effects and is not for everyone. It can carry some side effects, though they seem relatively rare. These include restlessness, headache, nausea , vomiting, dizziness, sweating, slow heart rate, and a few others I'm probably forgetting. Most of these are similar to general acetylcholine overdose.
