QUEST BARS

I would say by listing Taurine and Glycine on the label and then claiming the product has 23g or whatever protein is intentional. If T/G were listed on the label, but the label says 16g of protein, then I would say it is not intentional.

interesting...i don't claim to be a legal expert but if claims of deception could be substantiated it seems to me that the fda would investigate, since they have such a hardon for the supplement industry!!!

did the company make any statement or attempt at explanation?

i love krogers...when they discontinued the gaspari linepu i got 12 jugs of size on for $21.39 each....exp date is 08/16 and i still have 3 left....got a bunch of gaspari protein too and some superpump all at less than half price!!!

krogers runs sales, and usually it is significant savings, walmart does not, even walmarts clearance section is only cents off-i don't even bother!!!

my mother always told me...it's not how much money you have-it's how you spend it!!!

so I had no clue that this happened until I read your post. Shows much far away from the supplement game I have been haha

A while after my ban, I made a sockpuppet with the intent of posting again, but pretty quickly realized that bb.com's forums have basically no useful conversation whatsoever.

I mean, good for them, their year-over-year growth is huge and bb.com has become wildly successful, but they've gone full retard with the selling out to shills.

You don't use 55g of fiber syrup per bar if you're going for Quest-like. VitaFiber is ~91% fiber by weight and the cheaper IMO syrup is ~75%; Quest bars clock in around 17g of fiber per bar and a little of that comes from other ingredients like almonds -- that puts a generous estimate at 20-25g of IMO syrup per Quest-equivalent bar. Then you factor in a little less than a scoop of protein... end cost ends up being in the $1.00-$1.20 range per basic homemade bar.

In my opinion (IMO! ha!), it isn't worth making your own bars for cost savings. Just keep an eye out for deals, as you can routinely find 12/$20 and often find 12/$18 or less if you're patient. An extra $0.20-$0.50 per bar is worth the convenience factor in my mind.

What IS fun, however, is experimenting with different flavors and variations; I made an 'apple pie' bar using chopped dried apple, walnuts and pumpkin spice protein powder that blew Quest's version of flavor (which I actually quite like as well) out of the water. But it's much more of an enthusiast thing than a cost saving thing.

Homemade bars never come out with the same texture or taste as store bought bars. I found it to be a waste of time and money

So what was summary of these lawsuits? Is the protein being used in these bars legit? When Quest started they were all about quality ingredients...that was their thing.

The quest lawsuit is over protein? I thought it was because the bars contained more carbs then the label stated?

I thought it was fiber content and calories too....Not even sure about their protein at this point...which would suck..because I like them a lot.

I used to eat a lot of their bars. Made campus eating a bit easier... but they tend to.. umm... back me up?

Soo.. I have since given them up.

I know on diabetes forums there have been a buzz about them containing more carbs.

i wonder if anyone has ever checked to see if macdonalds is accurate in their breakdown of cals/carbs/protein/fat?

bodybuilders are a savvy bunch when it comes to nutrition, so i am not surprised that something that is marketed to them would be checked...

i just wonder how accurate food labels in general are?

From what I recall protein content wasn't ever in question with quest, just fiber content...

But was it checked and passed? Thats what I'm trying to see now and I can't find anything.

What I do is, before I eat anything I check the interwebz for what the bros say. If there is even any hint of anything negative at all I just don't eat or consume that product. It keeps me ripped too bro.

I always check before I post...is this to cynical? Then I do a T-Bone check and realize, its nowhere near to where he is...therefore its ok.

personally if it isn't gonna kill me i will take my chances...i am really enjoying my 0.49 cent quest bars regardless of how many links solution might post!!!

mmmm:veryhappy:

Couldn't tell ya, but did come across this from a website, non quest affiliated

'Nobody knows anything definitively. And I won’t pretend like we do. The President of Quest Nutrition also disputed the lawsuit head on,*here. But again, that’s his word against the plaintiff’s.

What we*do*know is that*ConsumerLab, an independent testing agency, tested the nutritional content in Quest’s Banana Nut Muffin unprompted. The results?*Everything*—including calorie and fiber content*—*was identical to Quest Bar labels.*2

That’s a HUGE plus, which leads to a likely explanation. Quest Bars use a number of innovative ingredients to magically balance robust flavor with stellar nutritional content. Sometimes the use of cutting-edge ingredients can outpace testing methods. It’s*highlypossible*that testing procedures used in many labs can’t accurately detect and measure newer fiber variants, specifically*isomalto-oligosaccharides (IMOs), that make up a huge chunk of Quest Bars. Some labs don’t even know how to test for IMOs, yet. That would explain the discrepancy between the plaintiff’s test results and those provided by Quest + ConsumerLab.34'

The only thing I would ever guess is that they don't have as much fiber as claimed, because I can sure eat a handful and not have any necessity to run off to the bathroom lol.

That said, when I track my cals and macros, I programmed each one into fitday and I counted their total carb count to the calorie count (which obviously makes it higher than what their label says).

Wow!. I'm not the only one who still uses Fitday!

It was the net carb and calorie count in question before

In Canada our nutrition info is different, higher cal

The app sucks hardcore, but the web interface is still okay lol. I just like using my own entries since I eat a lot of the same things and same brands. So if I always make a wrap with the same tortilla, cheese slices, dressing, and chicken breast, I can make one entry that covers it instead of having to plug things in individually to add up to it.

I'm weird, so I make my own entries that just look at total carbs (as well as fiber and sugar, but don't have fiber excluded from my daily carb reading). Generally I just view them as regular carbs unless I had a day where I look at carb total and then look and can say "hmm 250g carbs, but actually, 70g from fiber" LOL

Yeah, that's what I like about it. I use it on desktop PC because I'm old school like that.

people are finding out about this goldmine, you have to get there before the good stuff is gone....around 10 am is the best time!!!

When I use to work at the grocery store, people would start coming in at 630 am just for the discontinued items.

Go to walmart around 8-8 AM in the morning. You can always find meat on clearance
I get turkey burgers (94/6) for 2.50$ for 4 of them
Chicken Breasts for around 1.59$ pound if not cheaper
95/5 Beef for around 2.25$/lb

Winning.

usually when they clearance out meat it is because it is close to expiration date and has turned brown, as picky as you seem with everything else i am surprised you would buy 'old meat'!!!

Don't pick up brown meat and problem solved.
Near expiration sure. but if its in good quality/standing i will use it. I am not going to pick up roadkill looking meat lmao
Just freeze it if you are not cooking it right away.

Have you made them? 25g came out ok?

Not to get off topic but...are quest bars labels lying? I love them and want to keep having at least 1 a day while my funds allow it.

Side note: I personally love the chips.

Any recipes that are SIMPLE that y'all use w/ quest stuff like the bars/chips/ or even the powder?

Hey man, are these deals in one aisle or are they spread out? I looked for some deals at my Kroger's and found nothing. I should have tried another location.

they have a permanent section set up at my krogers...it is on the pet food aisle across from the bbq charcoal....but they do the markdowns up front by the self checkout--if you check up there you can find stuff marked down before they put it out in the regular markdown spot. i might stop in krogers 3-4 times a week just to check on markdowns-that albacore tuna was a fantastic deal, glad i stopped in today!!!
