Alcohol is hard on your liver, and will raise your liver enzymes. If you are taking oral AAS, then that is additional stress on your liver. So if you are taking orals, do not drink.
Can't stress that enough no drinking on orals. I know i friend that is pinning and went to downtown Chicago and blacked out. Not the brightest guy but really nice. Moral of the story use your head
Im a recovering alcoholic. I started lifting when i got out of rehab.ill never drink again i hope.you have to be careful.i use to drink 2 or 3 times a year and then one day i started drinking and never stopped for 10 years.about killed me.
Congratulations
Never heard anyone complain about alcohol making them too small. Lol
Maybe flaccid lol
Id say this is spot on. Competitive people, by their nature, will do more to get a result then most.I wouldn't even say just bodybuilding because I am not a bodybuilder and would fall into the athlete label if anything. I have seen it all and still do in everything I have competed in, where we kind of push the envelope compared to "average" folks. This can go either direction and tends to go more extreme in direction dependent on the level of the person commitment wise to their activity.
Maybe flaccid lol
If you skip the gym and go to the bar, then yes you will probably get smaller. lol
Otherwise, the affect of alcohol theoretically could increase gains if used wisely. It augments insulin secretion, increases free and total testosterone levels, and some studies even show a decree of estrogen and SHBG with no effect on cortisol when used post-w/o in resistance athletes. Sounds pretty anabolic to me!
So go ahead and don't drink if you like, but real men aren't afraid to have a shot after their workout for a reason.![]()
Drinking has nothing to to with being a Real Man you dick. Real men work hard and take care of there familys and train hard. Those were some pretty bogus studies you got your info from. Who shoots alchohol post workout, dip****s maybe. Real strength athletes rarely drink.
I don't drink, always felt like it made a negative impact when I did(Probably didn't help that I drank long islands like water)
Ironically, I bartend which can also be awkward. Lol
Yeah, they'll get you drunk fast. It was the first drink I ordered at a bar and it's just became a habit to say when I did drink lolIsn't long islands a very strong drink?! I used to moonlight as a doorman for extra cash, and the bartenders would add Bailie's to my coffee. It must be pretty mild though because i didn't ever taste it or notice an effect. Finally a waitress told me what they were doing! You know that's another thing alcohol is good for, crowds. If crowds make you tense, a drink or two can really help with nerves. As the Bible says, a little drink helps lightens the spirits. But too many drinks, and I'm gonna have to kick someone out and write another dam police report, lol.
Before I was married, I was waiting for 45 minutes for a girl to get off and ended up having 7. Thought I was fine until I stood up to leave with her. LolYea long islands are where it's at! Tasty drink and lights you up before you know it.

I drink a glass of whiskey every night and have noticed zero difference in the gym or in regards to bodyweight change (better or worse).
College I drank heavily 4 nights a week minimum. Now I drink heavily at least one night a week and some marathon weekends here and there. Everyone I know does too. I just like to go out and be social. Enjoy life outside the gym.
It probably doesn't help anything but I think the negative effects aren't nearly as people on here make it seem to be. I'm still big and strong as well as all my friends so why not have the best of both worlds
Everybody's probably heard of the French paradox, but clearly it's not just red wine which offers long-term health benefits. Many have assumed that wine is beneficial because of it's high polyphenol content, and all those antioxidants have amazing potential indeed. However, it must be the alcohol itself which is supplying the majority of associated benefit because Vodka works just as well!
Here's a very interesting study (see link below) that might change how you think about ethanol. It shows moderate alcohol users have lowered Lp(a) levels, and thus less risk of CVD that non-users. The benefit is not seen with low use, or high use, but with moderate use. Lp(a) is a specific form of LDL lipoprotein commonly known as 'bad cholesterol', and suspected by many to be the prime factor in arteriosclerosis...
"... These results suggest that moderate alcohol consumption results in changes in Lp(a) lipoprotein which are independent of the type of alcoholic drink consumed. In conclusion, we agree with Paassilta et al that lower Lp(a) concentrations may be one factor conferring lower mortality and cardiovascular benefit in social drinkers."

Hmmmm that was interesting,, Im competeing next Sat. and my long time buddy and champion bb told me to have a couple of glasses of red wine after my water rehydration period after pre-judge. Supposed to be good for vascularity and settles stage nerves. You just helped me decide to try it.Thanks Doc!

Well, the theory makes since as a vasodilator, and it settles nerves for sure. Did it work?
Thought Id take a survey. Obviously, anyone who spends alot of time on these boards takes their training and nutrition seriously. I am curious as to how many drink alcohol often, not at all or go bananas on the regular.
Some people say its severely detrimental and others say its effects are massively overblown. What do you think?
