Another reason to buy from reliable sources! Bad Supps!

Every year it seems there is a bust of some kind, But this one is pretty big! It saddens me to see this stuff, but it's also not a huge surprise!

Well.. its nothing new TBH.
I bet most of us would be shocked how many products are underdosed or dont contain the ingredient/ingredients as labeled. And it would be pretty naive to think its not like that. Supps are not FDA approved and actually we dont know what we are putting in us.

Right now, i am working with my friend to get supps tested in a lab

Why would you buy your stuff from a walmart, walgreens or a GNC
One is over priced
two the people there are clueless
and 3rd of all none of those products will ever be 3rd party tested in the first place.

Those that buy that stuff in those stores are going to be wasting more money than anything.
 
Cmon Bob, you know better than most people that those stores are just the ones that were caught this time. Outside of a pretty small handful of companies, you are only hoping that you are getting what is on the label and that small handful seemingly gets smaller all the time.

However, I would rather use my judgement and take my chances before I want some bloated, corrupt government agency involved in deciding what is best for me.
 
I don't shop at GNC anymore however I have bought multi vitamins from Walmart when I am in a financial pinch I guess I was hoping to get under dosed product but in this case I was just buying rice flour
 
Those stores and the supplements in them are a billion dollar industry designed to fleece the uneducated. I'll stick to my relatively unknown bodybuilder brands that only bodybuilders know about. Because if they don't work or are bunk, they are banished from the scene. Yes, there is still under-dosing and mis-labeling to an extent, but definitely not the same as on the large commercial level.
 
Even though we know that this goes on, this is surprising to me. To not have any of the ingredient and/or added ingredients that are stated as not being there is dangerous and not just misleading. Glad this was caught.
 
This isn't too surprising. Target isn't trying to swindle people. But as such a broad company, there's no way they're double checking their raws against chinese COAs. Unintentional on their part I'm sure, but it goes to show how important testing is
 
This is sad. Here comes the push for FDA regulation of ALL supplements.

This is very well said and i do agree. But like you said, testing is damn important and buying cheap chinese raws should be a warning sign for every company.

Some companies dont know what they are buying and some companies dont care.

I mean every company is responsible for the quality of the products and to make sure their products contain exactly whats on the label.

Target isn't buying raws, they do need to crack heads at their contract manufacturing provider though.
 
I think there might be some validity to Cohen's argument that there's a methodology issue here...

What are the odds that all 4 of Wal Mart, Target, Walgreens, and GNC can't even bottle a house brand garlic supplement?

If you saw the pics of where people buy raws you will question everything you take.

agreed. I was a little leery that all 4 of the major retailers came up bunk. Not saying there isn't massive amounts of products not meeting label claims but this just seems off.
 
That sucks! I bought a hugggggggge bottle of multivitamins from Target.

He sure does and did, they were some of the major suppliers for whey protein raws and BCAA raws used in a lot of brand new products.

This makes me REALLY glad that I'm in the process of getting COAs for any supplements I buy in bulk. Not just to be sure that I'm getting what I pay for, but to ensure that I'm not getting something that I'm not paying for (heavy metals, contaminants, etc). I agree that it's not wise to buy things for suspiciously low prices on madeinchina.com or something of that manner, but I wouldn't say that "you get what you pay for" (I think someone said that in this thread, not sure if it was you or not) paints the whole picture here either; there's nothing stopping a supplement from selling a false/impure supplement for an expensive price. In other words, buying an expensive supplement is by no means a guarantee of its purity or potency.

But I am sure Bob has sold way more products for companies with his great reviews then what few extra supplements he has laying around that he sold on eBay.

The get what you pay for argument is completely invalid as it relates to the supplement industry.

There is an abundance of overpriced ****ty products on the market.

That's what I've been trying to say. The $40 tub of creatine isn't necessarily any more effective, or even likely to be creatine, than the $20 tub simply because it costs twice as much. Now, if a supplement is suspiciously cheap, of course that's a red flag, but unless the extra price of an expensive supplement comes from better sourcing, third party COAs, good customer service, and/or better manufacturing procedures, then a higher price tag isn't indicitive of better quality. Hell, some of the best, most trusted companies in the industry also have some of the best prices. If you get what you pay for, then a month supply of CEE from GNC is better than a tub of Ergonine, which is clearly not true.

Absolutely true...It's ok though let people pay more for a nice shiny label with a pretty picture on it, obviously if it's more expensive it must be better right?

As there are an abundance of Crappy products that are sold at a "Very Cheap" Cost. Hence why they sell because they are using low grade raws or spiking their products.

So then you agree with me that regardless of price, there is an abundance of ****ty products on the market, and that there is no correlation between price and quality in the supplement industry?
