A BEASTS training log.

Awesome!!! That's a load of fish! I bet that was a blast! Charter trips are fun!!

well. i went through with it. i've started the original cube training by brandon lilly. i mentioned i would do some max effort work to set the basis for my lifts this week, however i've decided to use old maxes. i havent done any max effort type training in a while, just hypertrophy. my strength will probably be very similar.

today was a rep day for dead lifts

deads from a 2" deficit. supposed to be 70% of my max.
135x8 185x8 225x8 275x8x2. roughly 69%. i think 70% was like 278. i rounded down. call me a bitch. i figured start easier than too much. ALL SETS WITH OUT STRAPS

deads from pins just below my knee @ 80%
325x3 for 8 sets added straps around third or 4th set

squats 185x3 for 8 sets as well

hypers 3 sets bodyweight till fail. around 15 each set. my lower back and hips were torched.

shrugs strapless 65lb dbs 2 sets of 15 reps with a 2 second hold at the top. these really taxed my grip strength, which was what i was looking for more so than trap work.

abs from a high pully with the rope. 3 sets equaling up to 50 total reps.

my legs, hips, back and ass are WRECKED today. i'll be honest, i did the % calculations and i really didnt think it would be that difficult. boy was i absolutely wrong. wow. i have the feeling this is going to be a love hate relationship. wednesday will be a heavy bench day. may do some cardio tomorrow since im going to have to increase my calories. i dont want to gain fat, i will be keeping as lean as possible and potentially doing a show prep for end of may.

Very cool bud. Interested to see how this teats you.

if i had to bet, as long as i keep up on my nutrition PROPERLY, i'll continue to lean out, grow and get stronger than a beast. just judging from todays lift alone theres good amounts of hypertrophy included in this program. i'll definitely do what i can to keep good updates.

Dang man!!! Awesome job!! I bet you were dead tired!

I told you man - when I did the base Cube, exact same as you're doing now, it absolutely pushed me the whole time. Lilly calls you on your sh!t & forces you to accept that "good enough" does not breed conquerors.

Young guy at my gym, watched him bench 500 raw & squat 619 (only 600 at the meet) @ 242lbs was def using a lot of gear, & he said he'd been training the Kingpin template for over 3 cycles (30wks) and it was absolutely killing him, only training 3 days/wk even. His joints & everything were just dying from the combo of weight & volume. It's good that you started w/ the base Cube.

You'll come to fear the 2nd exercise, always a heavier variant of the first movement to hit from a different percentage & angle. Snatch-grip for sets of 8 off blocks was the worst. More than once did I almost fall over/collapse on the final set's last reps.

Lmao I thought the pin pulls would be cake yesterday. 325 is nothing especially when I was doing 365-405 for those big sets of 10 with the 10 sec pauses. F me was I wrong. My hips were smoked from deficits. They were harder than hell! I like how hard it's working me though. I know I'll grow on this one. That's the overall goal.

Woohoo. Phone interview at 3 with premier aviation. Heavy repair/mods 2 hours east of home next to one of the best walleye and smallmouth lakes in NY! Yeaaaahhhh buddy.

Awesome!!! I'll say a prayer for you!! Good luck SB!

THEY WANT THE BEAST!!! Seemed to go great. They seem super interested... Let's hope they offer better than unemployment as an incentive to get off my ass...

Yay!!!! I hope so!!

Hope you get a great offer Beast!

Congrats! I'll keep the fingers crossed for you, hoss.

Yeah the 2nd lift doesn't seem so bad at all, til you realize it's usually heavier than the main lift, & you've already put in some decent volume on a compound. And using 70% of your 1RM is cool....until you realize that it's not really 70%, because obv you can't deficit pull as much as you could from the floor. Lilly's tricking you into thinking it'll be lighter than it is.

And yes. Esp with like the deficit then tomorrow I floor press like. 80% then do sets of 15 i think on flats. Doesn't seem bad but I have the feeling it is.

The floor press was always dumb easy for me, but those sets of 15 - I had to dig for those, using the percentage he calls for. Deep.

It's like 70 fcking percent it's insane. I don't think I got 255 for 15. Esp after floors at 80%. That's brutal!

I took a fat rest before them, I'll tell you that - I always needed most rest on the 2nd exercise. The accessories I was always busting my butt to get it all done in 75 min; had to cut weight because I didn't have time for 2 min rests. Had to hustle.

Lol that's exactly how mon went. I smoked accessories. Standard 40 sec rests with slowish reps. Deficits were like minute rests. By the time I hit my 3rd set of racks I was like f me I need to slow down. I was getting those I'm gonna puke stomach cramps.

I got a ?. I see pls benching with a belt. What's the benefit? Is it what my imagination tells me? Cinch that bish tight and grab a deep breath and fill that chest up to shorten ROM?

Yeah I always keep rests to 45 sec or less on explosvie/dynamic days. It's supposed to be done in not terribly longer than 3x8 would take (if it's 8x3, for example). You're just giving more emphasis to precise form over TUT by going w/ more sets.

The belt is largely, & I mean largely, to keep the bench shirt down & taut on a geared lifter for maximum pop. Raw guys see it, think it's cool, so they use it because it's allowed. I feel absolutely no difference in the slightest, so I don't bench w/ a belt.

It really should help power transfer, as you are technically tighter, but I don't notice it. Certainly night like you would on a squat/pull.

just annihilated my heavy bench day. to the point of nausea post work out. lmao.

rolled banded stretched and warmed up for about 10 minutes.

floor presses. started with bar all the way through 275 for warm ups. work sets 295 for 2 reps and 5 sets

regular bench press b. lilly calls for 60-70% of 1rm for these. i did like 61% roughly. 225 for 2 sets of 15

hs lat pull down 90/side for 12 reps and 2 sets, 115 per side for 12 reps and one set

v par push downs 3x25

bb shrugs with a 2 sec hold 3x15

sohp 2x12

hanging leg raises 50 reps total

sickening upper body pump. love it.

The Cube sounds intense. Hey wasn't it Brandon Lilly that recently had a very bad squatting accident? How is he doing now or the person that it was anyway. I know it was a pretty big name in PL.

From what I understood on the Benching Belts was that they help to keep the back from locking up during the deep tight arch while benching. Something along the lines of needing the support due to the disc compression created by the extreme arch. I could be way off here but that was my impression upon reading about them.

Yeah that was Brandon Lilly. Last I knew he was working with john meadows nutrional guidance. Maybe a BB'er in the making lol

It was Lilly injured. I believe it was one or both ACLs. I've seen a vid of him pulling 750 since.

Excuse me Mr Beast...where are the progress pics you promised??!! Awesome wo too btw

Congrats brother!!! I'm on my way!!!

Hey guys. Life's getting hectic, may not be around for a few weeks. Working on getting a house and stuff. I'll pop in when I can but I may be getting a few weeks off from the gym since it's over 4 hours round trip to where I'm looking at moving to.

That's alright! So glad you've got a job! I know everything will start falling into place for you!! :) Good luck with everything!!

Do what u got to do, I know I'll still be here.. Good luck with the move!!

Good luck brother, keep us in the loop when the waters calm a bit! Don't forsake your diet either - you didn't make so much progress for nothing!

Congrats bro.. and as Hyde says.. keeps us in the loop when you can!

I'll do my best to keep my diet as tight as it has been (nothin crazy but not eating junk either) I don't like 2 steps forward 3 back.

Unfortunately the banks won't touch me for mortgage since I've been laid off for 6 months so I'm gonna have to sell the boat and get an apartment for a while and try to save a boat load of dough for a newer set up. I want like a Lund or something anyways. Deeper draft, something I can toss riggers on for eyes and salmon on big water. Bcaz knows how rough the Stratos would be on Lake Erie for smallies in a slight breeze.

These guys want me so bad HR is talking to people looking for a gig for my woman. Pretty cool.

That is bad ass man - hope it's a great setup for you. You said it's a general repair facility like mine, right? Like installations, repairs, & troubleshooting?
