Today's workout. Shoulders and Back Width. Not a bad session overall. Started with body weight pull ups then switched to cables to try it out one time. Not a bad set-up but I guess the original format is just as effective.

That last exercise-

You mean like a standing cable pullover in a way? Not correcting that's just what I think of it as and wanted to make sure, I love those (if we are on the same page here)

Yeah like the lat pullover machine but using cables with an underhand grip instead of overhand.

Takes some getting used too but I like em a lot.

Have to give that underhand grip a try next time. Thanks brother

Love straight arm pushdowns.... (miss the nautilus pullover machine, that was a pretty awesome machine)

You should give Stretchers a try they mimic the ROM of a pullover even moreso than Straight Arm Pull Downs. Closest thing I have found to a Nautilus pull over. I like to do them with a longer pause in the stretch than he is. Just feels more effective at the stretch that way.

Are they called that cuz you'll need one after the 4th set?

Haha, they are amazing but not so much. More like a strait jacket to keep your arms from sticking out.

When it comes to knees I know exactly when to give up lol. Was still a good day. Had another awesome pump and calves felt super tight.

Very nice indeed. Going to attempt to hang with you on these tomorrow.

What's a donkey calf raise?

Thanks Jim.

Damn, I've been logging these as "leaning calf raises with pad at the low back". Donkey Raise/Press in Jefit will make it a little easier...

one of those things you figure out as you get older....have to learn to lift smarter and respect what your body is telling you.

Tried em today! Don't wanna steal the show but I have some pics in my log, great pump thanks for the suggestion

GOOD MORNING FREAKS! Got an exciting day coming at ya and a surprise training session with one of our fellow AM members. Hopefully I can make it out alive today :)

Now this is exciting! You should film it.

Might just try that. We'll see what my training partner thinks. I dunno how to edit videos btw....anyone with some experience on a free software to use chime in!

I just had the same question because I would like to start throwing in some videos in my logs and Reggie said to download Magisto, it's free! I have an iPhone though. I haven't used it yet, thought I would give it a try today.

oooo surprises are kewl

small update from my side of things:
so I went on a lil three-day bulk, shaking things up and adding about 20-25% cals to get weight back where I want to remain..
not ready to drop back quite yet, rectified now, stabilized ~212 upon rising again

wasn't a dirty binge by any means, but wasn't as clean as I had been keeping it either
back on track now..
dinner last night

1lb ground turkey
rice & broccoli mix
peppers

breakfast this morning

4oz ham
pineapple
steel-cut oats, with protein powder in almond milk
believe it or not, that breakfast was ~875cals

I use iMovie, but it's not free. Splice is free for the iPhone, but I don't remember how effective that one is.

...definitely need video coverage of the massacre about to ensue!

(Steve/Montana - review is up in log and in reviews section. Also posted review on SuppReviews and Nutra (although not sure the Nutra successfully posted??))

what seasonings do you use on that turkey and rice? salt is one of many weaknesses of mine...gotta have it!!!

Just to chime in on seasonings, Mrs Dash has a lot of flavors and it's all salt free. I also LOVE ground Chipotle, and put that on everything.

i have heard that dietary masters like steve can manipulate the use of salt in much the same way as carbs. i would be interested in his input on this.

Hmm. Yes indeed.

Damn! Awesome session! Details to come my friends!

phooey on salt-free
sodium, FTW

I like salt - very underrated mineral
unless you have a health condition that lends to retention of this and therefore advised to limit salt intake, IMO the more salt the better..little known fact: salt is an essential component of the sodium-potassium pump, necessary for the process of moving sodium and potassium ions across the cell membrance in an active transport process involving the hydrolysis of ATP to provide the necessary energy..very big part of the "pump" muscle action among other things

salt & pepper are mainstays for me, i'm not all that extravagant (tho I do have me a nice selection of herbs & seasonings to choose from if I so desire)..I also like Lawry's for meats as i'm cooking them

SO! Today session was great. My "Super Secret" lifting partner was the one and only Mr.Kleen!

Im gonna go ahead and get this out there. This guy is strong like bull and WIDE as fuk! Huge lats. Absolutely crazy.

So I deviated from GVT today since it was a special occasion and we had a great session. Heavy weights. High reps and lots of ass kicking happend.

Started with some reverse grip bb rows and worked up to 245 on those for a couple sets of ten. Kleen adjusted my form here so I was bent forward a little more and I could feel it in my lower lats instead of my upper back much more. Good adjustment here but the weight I was using got a little too heavy so form drifted back to more upright.

Moved on to incline DB press and worked up to 100's for a set of ten. Kleen adjusted my form here as well (this is actually a common trend throughout the workout lol. Lots of learning happend today.) by having me keep the DB's OUT more at the top instead of bringing them together more. Kept more constant tension on the pecs and made a huge diffirence.

Moved on to Hammer Strength Hi-Rows. I love this fking machine. We dont have one at my gym and its been a few years since i had the opportunity to use one. Think we worked up to 160 per side? Either 160 or 115 I cant remember but got a few sets of these in then did a drop set on top of that.

Moved to wide grip hammer strength chest press. HOLY CRAP most favoritests machine EVER. Amazing contraction for chest. The Kleen machine blew me out of the water on these lol. Think he got 140 per side for 10 or so and I got about 5 :P

NEXT we hit some dead stop rows with 80lbs dumbbells for two or three sets of ten. By now my back is pumped to hell and back and Im reaaaaaaly feeling the diffirence from the lower weights ive been using with GVT.

Cable Crossovers next. Four sets of 10-12 reps and the chest is blowing the fk up.

Hit some middle back shrugs for just a couple sets. These were nice and im going to be adding those in so I can feel the contraction in my middle back from now on. Not a lot of weight used here just 40lb db's but I could feel the middle back contract with each rep. Great stuff.

Did some pec minor dips to finish and at that point im comfortable saying I was spent lol.

After we got done we went in the Zumba room and did some yoga and hot oil massages......wait whut? No No nm. LoL we did go in the Zumba room but we worked on my posing, or more like lack there of. Learned some awesome stuff during this 30 minutes of hell lol. Like dont flex as hard as you can or you will black the fk out ? yeah thats a big one rofl. He got some video of a few poses and is supposed to get them to me so I can post them up for you guys.

It was a great day and I had a blast. Kleen is an awesome guy and has a lot of knowledge he was willing to share with me. Gonna try to make this a monthly routine because it was awesome.

SO thats the update! Im cramping up right now just typing this so the heavy weights, extra motivation and posing practice did the trick.

Wow nice work Monte!! I always wondered about db incline presses and leaving them out. I've tried this myself but thought I was supposed to bring them together. Glad to see it's better to keep em out though as this way does feel like it works the pecs more.
