Importance of nutrition during off time?

Hey guys,
just wondering, how important do you think it is to stick to your normal diet during breaks from training? In the past when I've taken a week or two off I tend to just eat everything in sight without counting macros or calories, which seems to help me maintain mass and strength though often results in some fat gain. What's your preferred strategy?
 
Depends on the length of your breaks. If it's just a week or two I wouldn't change anything but if you're talking about a hiatus it's smart to cut back. Calories in vs. out and all.
