Great success stories above! Here's a take on my own journey..
In high school, I was a pretty talented multi-sport athlete & even having a chance to play some college ball, but I decided it wasn't really all the worth for just some D2 ball so I opted out. Never really was "big" in high school.. but I was a fairly stocky kid & had a little strength. I was pretty into lifting throughout high school, but only for sports. Plus, I didn't have grasp of the nutritional aspect of it so my gains & recomp were limited. Anyways, I graduated high school, started college, got a part time job & began the adult world. At this point, I was just way too busy (in my mind) for the gym. Near the end of my freshman year of college was a pretty rough rockslide. A 3 year relationship fell apart, my parents were on the verge of a divorce, I was getting drunk & high to ease the pains, & eventually I physically wasn't feeling well. I was to the point where I was having an all day bloat, trouble urinating, fatigue, & just a horrible sense of well being. This went on for about 6 months, during which I was seeing multiple doctors with no answer. I honestly thought I was going to die.. It was that bad. I had to quit my job, take off spring quarter & basically laid bed rest besides doctor trips. At this point, I was a measly 170 pounds, no appetite, no motivation. Through tons of tests & scans, I finally got word that they saw something in my bladder & decided to go in. I had a very large abscess just growing in there, which the 20 year practicing surgeon had never seen before, and they had to cut out & remove. After that, things started to look up. Once I was got healed up, I decided I was going to turn my life back around. Honestly, the gym is what re-saved me. From then on, I've used what happened as motivation, as I never want to go through that again. I am grateful for the fact that it wasn't something as serious as I had expected, & I express my appreciation through a barbell. It has been about a year & a half since I got better, & I have devoted so much into my body since that point, not only as far as muscle building, but healthy living. This is a then & now picture from around the time I was sick until a few days ago. Before picture around 170, now I'm sitting around 190. I am happy to do this all naturally, besides a non-methyl DHEA cycle a few months ago. I plan to continue my passion for this lifestyle for as long as I can.. Now let's hear some more stories!
