Airborne's Quest to PowerLifting (and whatever he's on ATM)

Love the motivation and drive you have right now man! This run is really epic for the both of us! Nice work, I may have to check out this achilles. Right now though my muscles and joints are unstoppable, I hit a 2 a day yesterday and my muscles were ready for more. Loving test!

Never had this bad of shoulder pumps before is 3 plates per arm on seater shoulder press hammer strength good?

You can do more...
I can so 2 45s & 25 on each arm with a helping hand.

I'm with LTL 2 & a dime I rep, maybe a but more occasionally.

So it's pretty good, seem some jacked dudes rep 3-4 with ease.

That P-Bold is looking legit.

You training solo? That first fukcin rep is a b!tch to clear! I'm pretty sure you lose 2-3reps jut clearing that first friggen rep. Especially if you have your seat set correctly.

Yea it was solo. Haven't been training with the team. My coach is the owner of our gym. He has been busy with his son on some days. Atleast 1 day of week. The first is the hardest. To get up

Just work your way back up from the floor. When you do rep work ie more than one rep dead stop each rep, reset, and pull. This way every rep is a first rep. This will take the stretch reflex out of it.

No straps too. :)

Be careful with doin the over under grip tho. You can snap yo **** up

Hook grip hurts like a mother ****er lol

I'm not great with it since I have midget hands.

405 is about the point I need to switch from double overhand to a mixed grip or hook grip. Think 455 is the most I've pulled double overhand.

What u mean by that brotha

U can tear your Bicep and develop your back muscles diff. I only use it for singles. Hook grip is my go to. Yes it hurts like crazy but you get use to it!

ive never understood how to do the hook grip, i also have tiny hands. Also, I alternate my mixed grip so i get equal number of reps in with the variations

Frank Reynolds said:
With the underhand try and keep the tricep flexed. Will take stress off the bicep.

Or start using hook grip.

Amazon has cheap chalk.

Ok I gotcha, I couldn't do the hook grip very well cause it was sliding but I tried the hook grip and reverse hook and could do a lot more. I had the tri's flexed for sure, I could tell there was a ton of stress on the bi's and tri's for that mater.

Amazon thanks!

Lmao it takes gettin use to. I suggest something that helps remove calluses.

You told me to do that so I would do my high reps with hook grip, it would slipt a bit at 315 but wasn't bad......Don't worry bout my back muscles, just wann hold that weight and follow my brotha AB down the heavy weight lane. Powerlifting is where its at haha you gotta lead me dog

You ****in know it bro! You got the strength already. My grip is freakish not sure why I never hit forearms. When hittin deads, straight back, look up, chest out, keep arms straight and locked out so you don't tear **** and keep bar to shins. You know your doin it right when your shins bleed or get scuffed. The goodmornings will aid you to lift properly so you don't get that forward lean

This is the best and safest way to dead lift too!

Yeah that hook grip looks a bit insane for someone with short fingers like me. I may have to try it some day...

It slips right through my baby hands with a hook grip. I do better just double overhand....

Good thing companies make straps!

I know it's been talked about before but why are straps a bad thing? Not saying I'm pro or anti because I'm trying to ween myself off them. But I just don't see what the advantage of grip strength is if your not crushing things with your bare hands on a daily basis. Ive always used straps on rows and pulls because I was told your forearms shouldn't be able to keep up with your back muscles. Which makes sense to me. Why have your back lifts suffer because your forearms can't keep up? If I can squeeze 3 or 4 more reps out using straps wouldn't that be better than not using them?

Remember bro that you're talking to power lifters. For us guys that lift as a "hobby" straps are no problem IMO.

It ends up being whatever suits your individual needs. For me I try not to use straps because in my job I need strong grip strength. Ultimately for those of us that don't compete its your own preference.

However, the thought that your forearms "shouldn't" be able to keep up with back strength is BS, again, IMO.

It only matters if you are a competing powerlifter IMO.

Thanks guys. I just never understood why straps get such a bad rap lol I guess I'm a puss c though lol

Dez I completely respect your opinion so I have to ask why you think it's BS. It only makes sense to me because I look at it like compared to the muscle groups/size in your back its only natural your forearms would burn out faster.

BTW don't want to come across like I'm arguing lol I just like to hear ppl's opinion on the subject :)

I'm rite there with ya bro! I'm just going without cause my buddies wanted me to compete in a couple local competitions, that's why I'm not using them....but I c ur point, as far as when I'm done doing a couple comps might go back to using with just for the extra weight I can push and build muscle.

I think the forearms endurance threshold is a lot higher than that of the larger muscles.

I know the calves are, as per running literature for human biomechanics.

The only time I use straps is when my grip totally fails and not until. Since I have been going this way my grip has become increasingly stronger over time.
