Hey all, so to do with knees I've been on a programme for 5 months involving barbell rows, dead lifts and squats, all of which involve my knees of course. The past two weeks I've noticed a pain in my right knee anytime I do the squat motion, even an unweighted squat! Ive left it for a week but it's still there, those exercises make up 60 percent of my program and I really want to get back to them! Anyone have any experience with this before?? Any help would be grately appreciated, this has me seriously depressed lol

You need to be more specific on exactly where the pain is coming from and what it feels like. For instance, I have chronic knee problems and the squat aggravates it - but mine has nothing to do with knees themselves - but the sliver of tendon that attaches my quad to the top of my kneecap. Anything beyond 70 degree bend starts to hurt.

You may have completely different symptoms.

I understand how it could be my technique, I'll try and get a video. Also an extra note, I weigh 55 kilos and have been squatting above 70 so it's a reasonably large weight for my knees, I'm 16 too

I had the same problem, until I realized, I was flat footed, which was causes my knees to come inward, when I squat down. I have good shoes now that fixes that. I would suggest you record yourself and take a note of your knee position when you squat down. Even before you squat with an empty bar, squat down and try and focus on your knees, do they go inward as you squat down, do they point out, ect? Also check your feet. If yo uare flat footed you'll need to get a good pair of shoes and insoles.

Video of your technique is the best way to offer a solution.

Haha that should be a requirement in order to post on this site ;) don't wanna jack this thread though... Knee injuries suck, torn MCL :/ finally gettin my squat back after about year back on it

I'm flat-footed as well and using athletic shoes with insoles is not a good idea for squats or deads. They push you forward and you lose all of your heel drive.

Well idk how else I could squat. My knees point inward without the shoes. I have severe overpronation and virtually no arch at all.

I'm in the same boat. What you have to do is force the knees out as you sit back and also strengthen the VMO, which will help strengthen the knee.
