Look how big we are...look how many people are on right now!!!

There are currently 16871 users online.

Anyone want to take a guess at what I"m hinting at?

If you guess it, you get double reps from me.

That we could possibly beat the old record "Most users ever online was 19,574, 01-18-2009 at 12:25 PM."

No, but I'll give you a hint. The old record is pure bull****.....

So if the old record it comple Bull, Then does this mean that there aren't really 17,000 people on now?

That AM is still better than that other BB site, and now we're getting the numbers to prove it? :D

Getting warmer!!!!!

Better is subjective :)

But if I had their numbers, I would be retired by now :D

This beats the old record because the old record is fictitious?

Either that or 16871 is your favourite number...

No and no...

Ok, another hint....in another thread I was in, someone was complaining about marketing....and I understood his point...which then got me thinking about some of the stuff some forums do.

Okay so the users just jumped from 17418, to 18333 in the past 3 minutes, So if the old record is fictional and the people online right now is possibly a farse, are you going to make a new record for the most people online today Fictitiously!!! This is exciting

Best active user to total user ratio? :)

Actual forum numbers are getting so impressive that you no longer need to fake a total user count in order to look good?

(Not that it matters anyway...)

So your making more false users online as a marketing scam so that more people will talk about the popularity of the site and get more people to join because of all the active users? I am almost clueless, these hints are weak! haha

Ok, the short of it...because I have to go.

Vbulletin has a cookie timeout that by default is 15 minutes....so you log in, surf around for 5 minutes, leave....vbulletin keep that session logged for 15 minutes...which means you count as a user online for 15 minutes even though you were only here for 5....

Now you can change that....and many do...why? To look busier than you are...to appear bigger than you are.

In fact, some I see have cookie timeouts of DAYS....so you could login Friday, leave....and still count as being logged in Saturday. Granted some have it because they have someone running if for them...and they owner has no idea.

Judge a forum on activity...not some fictional number....

Right now we have is set to a day...I changed it last night to show a sponsor the difference. Its usually default. Our old record was an error when we upgraded long time ago and had a cookie issue with the load balancer.

People brought up bb.com....they are legit. The are enormous.

BINGO!

I actually know the answer but forgot it.

16871 active users was the magic number he was hoping for so when he sells all of our details to various third party marketing companies he can put a deposit down on his new sports car.

Edit: too late. Pretty sure mine was the real answer...

I did that a long time ago....

I KID! I KID!!

I can make it say we have 100,000,000 posts and 20 million members too.....

thus more companies will want to be on AM.

We have our's at default...I made it a day to show a sponsor. Tonight it goes back to default.

Plus companies come here and stay here based on their ROI....if they don't get a return, they leave. Can't hide that...

how is that ROI measured off a forum...Anabolic Minds sells nothing, Nutraplanet does. Do they just factor in the sales based of NP?

Mainly sale increases from a timeframe....they can track traffic that comes from here, sales, etc....through their analytics programs...but even that is a small slice of the pie.

Measuring from NP is dumb....Even though I don't let other retailers on here, Sam and I know full well people use other places...in fact 90% probably do...if everyone that came to AM used NP, Sam would be retired by now.

You have to remember, 70% of the traffic here are guests that read.....they read reviews, search for products then come here, then go buy at NP or other places....

So you have to look at it like:

Company A advertises...people read and get curious...eventually people buy from all over the place. Thats why you never gauge advertising off one retailer.

I understand that, just looking to understand how ROI is measured based off occupancy here at AM. There is alot of non-monetary value as well that can't really be measured.

Oh yeah....

Its much easier to track than a magazine ad too...mag ad you basically throw something on the wall and hope it sticks...while paying 10x the amount. But they can be real effective if you spend enough, have enough pages and stay there for a long time. More of a branding effect...

Very interesting, I had wondered about the "active members" on other sites being quite high... Thanks for sharing, good info, I'll only buy from NP forever and ever (or until my cookie expires)!

Don't lie.. you just got a chubby from geeking out on some techy ****! :D

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us.
