Minimum wage is a joke today, it was meant to be the minimum wage for a skilled employee, a journeyman carpenter for instance (not an apprentice). Now it applies to people so unskilled they can't get a fast food order right on a touch screen with pictures.

If you look at his track record he is a corporatist, fascist war mongering elitist. His major "socialist" plan, the Obama care isnt even socialist, its total corporate takeover of human life.

It may not rank as the most compelling reason to curb greenhouse gases, but reducing our emissions might just save humanity from a pre-emptive alien attack, scientists claim.
Watching from afar, extraterrestrial beings might view changes in Earth's atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control – and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat, the researchers explain.
This highly speculative scenario is one of several described by a Invalid Link Removed-affiliated scientist and colleagues at Pennsylvania State University that, while considered unlikely, they say could play out were humans and Invalid Link Removed to make contact at some point in the future.

Other kinds of close encounter may be less rewarding and leave much of human society feeling indifferent towards alien life. The extraterrestrials may be too different from us to communicate with usefully. They might invite humanity to join the "Galactic Club" only for the entry requirements to be too bureaucratic and tedious for humans to bother with. They could even become a nuisance, like the stranded, prawn-like creatures that are kept in a refugee camp in the Invalid Link Removed, the report explains.

"Green" aliens might object to the environmental damage humans have caused on Earth and wipe us out to save the planet. "These scenarios give us reason to limit our growth and reduce our impact on global ecosystems. It would be particularly important for us to limit our emissions of greenhouse gases, since atmospheric composition can be observed from other planets," the authors write.
Even if we never make contact with extraterrestrials, the report argues that considering the potential scenarios may help to plot the future path of human civilisation, avoid collapse and achieve long-term survival.

While we are confident that the political aftermath of this outcome will be very much comparable to what is happening in Egypt right now, many wonder why it is that the Libyan situation has progressed with such speed. Perhaps the answer can be found in the 143.8 tons of gold held by the Libyan Central Bank. Granted it is nowhere near close the 366 tons of gold that Venezuela supposedly has per the WGC, most of it likely held offshore and not being repatriated, the question of where the global gold cartel may find some of the much needed physical to satisfy Chavez' demands has been now answered. Of course we assume that said gold has not already departed Libya in direction Caracas over the past 6 months. Which, in retrospect, we probably should, as it would explain why gold is now at $1875 and rapidly rising.

While U.S. troops are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq in the supposed fight against terrorists, those same terrorists are now being handed control of an entire country, along with its lucrative resources, as a massive NATO bombardment of Tripoli aids the Al-Qaeda backed rebels in their overthrow of Colonel Gaddafi.

While U.S. troops are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq in the supposed fight against terrorists, those same terrorists are now being handed control of an entire country, along with its lucrative resources, as a massive NATO bombardment of Tripoli aids the Al-Qaeda backed rebels in their overthrow of Colonel Gaddafi.

Bondholders and managements survived as a result of the Fed's efforts. Critics wonder if the Fed and the government would have done better to let investors eat their losses.

There haven't been a lot of hearings about the billions of dollars the Federal Reserve loaned to banks during the worst of the financial crisis.
But you can bet there will be.
The issue is this: The Fed quietly lent some $1.2 trillion to banks around the world, not just the United States, in the fall of 2008 and into 2009.
In most cases, the money was repaid fairly quickly, and it is not clear if the Fed ever lost any of its money.
The extent of the program was reported by Bloomberg News, which sued the Fed to force disclosure of the lending.
Citigroup (C) and Bank of America (BAC) borrowed the most during the crisis. But the two, which also required extensive help from the government to bolster their capital, were hardly alone. The 10 largest banks borrowed some $669 billion, according to Bloomberg.
Investment house Morgan Stanley (MS) borrowed as much as $107 billion, followed by Citigroup at $99.5 billion and Bank of America at $91 billion.
"These are all whopping numbers," said Robert Litan, a former Justice Department official who in the 1990s served on a commission probing the causes of the savings and loan crisis. "You’re talking about the aristocracy of American finance going down the tubes without the federal money."
Almost half of the Fed’s top 30 borrowers, measured by peak balances, were European firms. They included Edinburgh-based Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which took $84.5 billion, the most of any non-U.S. lender, and Zurich-based UBS (UBS), which got $77.2 billion.
Germany’s Hypo Real Estate Holding borrowed $28.7 billion, an average of $21 million for each of its 1,366 employees. The company was later nationalized.

The Fed's lending -- made through as many as 18 different programs -- peaked at $1.2 trillion on Dec. 5, 2008. At the time, the balance was more than 25 times the Fed's pre-crisis lending peak of $46 billion on Sept. 12, 2001, the day after terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon. Denominated in $1 bills, the $1.2 trillion would fill 539 Olympic-size swimming pools.
The Fed has said it had "no credit losses" on any of the emergency programs, and a report by Federal Reserve Bank of New York staffers in February said the central bank netted $13 billion in interest and fee income from the programs from August 2007 through December 2009.
"We designed our broad-based emergency programs to both effectively stem the crisis and minimize the financial risks to the U.S. taxpayer," said James Clouse, deputy director of the Fed's division of monetary affairs in Washington. "Nearly all of our emergency-lending programs have been closed. We have incurred no losses and expect no losses."
Why was the Fed so willing to act? It was concerned that banks would run out of cash during the crisis. Banks need a minimum amount of cash every day to handle everything from paying out loan proceeds to paying off depositors redeeming certificates of deposit or cashing checks.
Banks worldwide let their liquidity -- the ability to meet their obligations -- run down to dangerously low levels in the early part of the decade. And then they got caught by the downdraft.
What the Treasury Department and the Fed did during the crisis has been subject to enormous second-guessing, much of it probably deserved.
The criticism centers around the fact that governments around the world saved their banks and their bondholders first before starting to think about the risks the banks posed to their banking systems and their economies.
And the banks were saved ahead of many businesses that had been longtime customers.
Money-manager Barry Ritholtz says what the Bush and Obama administrations should have done was:
•Fire the senior management of the banks.
•Banned all lobbying activity as a condition of any aid.
•Forced a Swedish-style prepackaged bankruptcy.
Sweden experienced a banking crisis in the 1990s and forced their banks to recapitalize. Bondholders and shareholders were largely wiped out. But the result was a more stable banking system that helped Sweden survive its current crisis.

According to Euronews, the riots now taking place in Chile are related to a demand for “free education.” Education, however, is only one of a number of demands made by workers as they participate in a 48-hour national strike. Chilean unions demand that tax reform be imposed on transnational corporations, international consortia, and the wealthy elite to address social problems caused by decades of globalism. They also want to change the country’s social security system that has left millions of elderly people and pensioners impoverished. For details, see Invalid Link Removed.
Following the CIA orchestrated coup in Chile that overthrew a democratically elected president and installed the military dictator General Augusto Pinochet, “free market” economic prescriptions formulated by the Milton Friedman-style neoliberal “Chicago Boys” were imposed on the country. “The US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has disclosed that CIA collaborators helped plan the economic measures that Chile’s junta enacted immediately after seizing power,” the Chilean economist Invalid Link Removed wrote in 1976, shortly before he was assassinated by Pinochet’s secret police, the DINA (a paid Invalid Link Removed).

“The current situation in Libya may be a short term victory for Empire, but it is a loss for our American Republic. And, I fear it may be devastating to the Libyan people.

“There is no doubt that Moammar Gadhafi is a bad guy, and that he has brought harm and misery to his country. However, our involvement in another country’s civil war is costly and unconstitutional.
“We have spent over $1 billion on a war that this administration has fought not with the consent of Congress but under a NATO flag and authorization from the United Nations.
“It is a serious thing for a President to engage us in a war. He is bound by our Constitution to seek authority from the People, through our Congress, prior to engaging in any military action unless that action is to address an imminent threat to our safety and security. The situation in Libya is a civil war contained within that country’s sovereign borders, and it presented no imminent threat to the United States.
“And so, our government continues to spend trillions of dollars in overseas foreign wars while we face unsustainable debt, a looming dollar crisis, and our Constitution seems to lose any meaning. These actions will sink our country if we do not reverse course.
“Meanwhile, we must beware of any ‘Mission Accomplished’ euphoria. The conflict in Libya is far from over, and there could very well be war in Libya for a long time to come.
“While I hope and pray that the hostility draws to a close and the people there find peace, I fear this is only wishful thinking. We face a situation where a rebel element we have been assisting may very well be radical jihadists, bent on our destruction, and placed in positions of power in a new government.
“Worse still, Gadhafi’s successor is likely to be just as bad, or worse, than Gadhafi himself. Alternately, Libya may descend into anarchy like Somalia after the overthrow of dictator Siad Barre. Much like when we removed Saddam Hussein, another thug in Iraq, the likelihood of either a new brutal dictatorship or tribal violence and a protracted insurgency are much more likely than the peaceful transition to democracy we are all hoping for.
“With all these problems and the predictable chaos that will likely ensue, we must ask why this administration was so eager to embark on this Libyan operation in the name of ‘humanitarianism.’ Governments in Bahrain and Yemen have this year used military force to put down democratic protestors. The Saudi regime, which practices Sharia Law, has also been repressive, yet we have not intervened there. These countries continue to sell us oil, while Libya had begun to turn their exports toward Russia, China, India, and Brazil. Could this war largely be about protecting our oil interests at the expense of our Constitution?
“This episode is all too familiar. We were already involved in two wars that have dragged on years longer than the people who led us into them initially predicted. We can no longer afford to police the world, in terms of both dollars and American lives. We will destroy ourselves if we do not stop, build a strong national defense at home, and focus on trade and commerce with the world instead of Empire.”

Even as a major hurricane hit America’s eastern seaboard, the administration is determined to expand the war in Libya while threatening the regime in Syria. Is there any limit to government’s appetite to create more problems for our nation and economy?
Americans may be tempted to celebrate the apparent victory of US and NATO backed rebels in Libya, since it seems the Gaddafi regime is overthrown. But I believe any enthusiasm for our Libyan misadventure is premature.
The Obama administration attacked Libya without a constitutional declaration of war, without congressional authorization, without meaningful consultation with Congress — and without a dollar being authorized from the House or Senate. It was a war started by a president who turned to the United Nations for its authority and ignored the authority of the US Congress.
Are we better off as a nation by ignoring and debasing our Constitution? Are we better off having spent more than a billion dollars attacking a country thousands of miles away that had not threatened us? Are we more financially sound having expanded the empire to include yet another protectorate and probable long-term military occupation? Are we more admired throughout the world for getting involved in yet another war?
Still, many will claim that getting rid of Libyan ruler Gaddafi was worth it. They will say that the ends justify the means. As the civilian toll from NATO bombs adds up in a war started under the guise of protecting a civilian population, even the initial argument for intervention is ridiculous. We should not forget that there were no massacres taking place in Libya before the NATO attack. The attack was a dubbed a preventative humanitarian intervention. But as soon as NATO planes started bombing, civilians started dying.
Gaddafi may well have been a tyrant, but as such he was no worse than many others that we support and count as allies. Disturbingly, we see a pattern of relatively secular leaders in the Arab world being targeted for regime change with the resulting power vacuum being filled by much more radical elements. Iraq, post-Saddam, is certainly far closer to Iran than before the US invasion. Will Libya be any different?
We already see grisly reprisals from the US-backed rebels against their political opponents. There are disturbing scenes of looting and lawlessness on the part of the rebels. We know that some rebel factions appear to be allied with Islamic extremists and others seem to have ties to the CIA. They also appear to have a penchant for killing each other as well as supporters of the previous regime. The tribal structure of Libyan society all but ensures that an ongoing civil war is on the agenda rather than the Swiss-style democracy that some intervention advocates suggest is around the corner.
What is next after such a victory? With the big Western scramble to grab Libya’s oil reserves amid domestic political chaos and violence, does anyone doubt that NATO ground troops are not being prepared for yet another occupation?

They do not care that we are bankrupt, as they are too blinded by their desire for empire and their affection for the entangling alliances we have been rightly counseled to avoid. They have set their sights next on Syria, where the US moves steadily toward intervention in another domestic conflict that has nothing to do with the US. Already the US president has called for “regime change” in Syria, while adding new sanctions against the Syrian regime. Are US bombers far behind?

According to NBC Ron Paul blew everybody out the water in the debate (which I felt so myself, because I wasnt judging on his age and energy), yet NBC ignores him just like the rest of the mainstream media is. The corporate media does not want Paul to win, and they dont want people to think he even has a chance by ignoring him all the time.

I know, I mentioned that on facebook earlier. If the media were going to report on that poll it would be "Romney holds a 3 point lead over Perry, with both of them having more than twice as many votes as the next contender, Huntsman" and not even name Paul.
One of the things though that is a problem for him is that much of what he says can so easily be misinterpreted. When he says "FEMA shouldn't exist" he's not saying the federal government shouldn't or couldn't help states in a time of dire need. But there doesn't to be a huge federal beaurocracy that covers the whole country to do so. Florida's natural disaster issues are far different than Iowas. Let the states set up their own disaster response mechanisms, its their responsibility and they would know better than a federal group how to handle things. Sure the federal government can give the state a block grant to deal with an emergency, that doesn't mean there needs to be a whole department of it.
