Yeah, they were huge...all 170 lbs of them...
Easy Rodja, I have to work real hard to maintain 170lbs. I'll drop to 160 in no time if my calories slack.

It also highly increases your odds of injury.
"Small studies have also shown that running barefoot somehow lessens joint impact by 12% and requires less energy than running with shoes. It’s possible barefoot runners land softer in the middle of the foot, put less strain on the rest of the body and are better able to use their toes to push off, creating a more natural foot strike.
“The way your foot hits the ground in a highly cushioned shoe is very forceful,” says Dr Najia Shakoor, the lead author of a study featured in the article. “When you are barefoot you have a natural motion from your heel to your toe. We now think that’s associated with more shock absorption.”
Of course, there are the obvious dangers – glass, blisters, bruising and infections to name a few. And not everyone is sold on barefoot running.
“Wearing no shoes is brilliant if you grew up walking or running this way like Kenyan athletes who have unlimited access to sandy and soft, grassy ground,” says Lorraine Jones of the Society for Chiropodists and Podiatrists.
The problem is most of us run on road or paved trail, which is extremely hard on our feet and bodies. I, for one, can’t imagine running barefoot (unless I’m on the beach). I love my Asics."
well if its the surface that makes a difference, then maybe running with shoes on concrete isnt the best form of exercise. find a park or a dirt trail where running barefoot is the best, and then wear Vibrams to protect your feet from cuts and scratches. i dont know but for some reason i dont trust child slaving corporations like Nike etc. that brand new "supercushion" they market is probably just another piece of foam. to me it makes sense to go back to our roots, we were running barefoot for hundreds thousands of years before good ol nike came about to rescue us from our misery.
Hence the shoe market trying to mimic bare feet, but with a layer of protection. There are others besides vibram getting into it. Even Nike has a version.
I read this thread the other day and laughed. And then I noticed the most hilarious thing. A 20 year old kid with a bandanna, underarmour shirt(my 4 year old could wear) a bleached mohawk, and adorable little toesy sockshoes! And guess what he was doing? Sets of 2 on flat bench with 10 minutes between sets. PRICELESS.
While we're venting...
People who ask my advice in the gym about something, start to listen, don't get told what they want to hear, then begin to debate with me. Stop wasting my time.
Or, ask advice, you give them advice ("my shoulder hurts" stop doing presses behind your neck and ungodly amounts of upright rows and front raises), listen to you, then turn around and keep on doing what they were just doing. Again wasting my time.

Okay.....okay
I've found the worst fitness fad of all time (worse than shakeweight). Laughing Lunges...

Yes, this too is real. She uses Vibrams:
The best shoe, in my opinion, is a good cross-trainer. It will cover all of your needs. A real shoe store will properly measure your foot, watch you run on a treadmill (to view how your foot strikes the ground, pidgeon toed, etc.), and will examine your arch needs.
You will definitely pay more at a store like that, but you get a shoe that will actually work with your body and support you.
After doing those tests, they pretty much eliminated 90-95% of the shoes they stocked as an option for me. They set me up with a pair of Nike's which are probably the best pair of athletic shoes I have ever owned.
Guess what shoes they don't stock? Vibrams. Once I see marathon runners and Iron Man competitors using Vibrams and winning, nevermind...that won't happen.
Born to Run is a great book to read to get more info on running like this.

I was honestly left speechless.

why don't you guys spend more time training, and less time worrying about what everyone else is doing??? lol, never seen so many judgmental f*cks in one thread... reminds me of a bunch of sorority b*tches

Are you talking sh*t about people using their spare time to post nonsense on a forum instead of "training more"?. Way to be the typical idiotic hypocrite. No 1 gives a f*ck what you think dude, so stop being female trying to stir up some drama via the internet and go post about your latest cycle
I do hope you see the irony of you being judgmental of us while complaining about us be judgmental (paradox much)? I'll save you some time, just go stand in front of a mirror and repeatedly tell that other person you see that he is a "judgmental f*ck". Tell me who wins.
If I wanted to be judgmental, I might choose to mock your self taken, stereotype, shirtless, iphone in bathroom mirror, myspace photo, but hey I won't.
the douchebag meatball stereotype given to bodybuilders
Yes I was... hypocritical? maybe a little bit, but I stick up for those you put down, so there is a difference.
I really technically did not judge you.... I made suggestion to help your training, then simply paired you with an adjective describing the actions you were displaying in this thread, and finally compared it to a remembrance of mine.
I was simply trying to deter you from continuing the douchebag meatball stereotype given to bodybuilders, but now my feelings are hurt because you don't like my picture. :crying:
I'm sorry, what was it you were just talking about? The douchebag meatball stereotype? Again, I would reference your picture for exhibit A.
Perhaps you didn't actually read any of our discussion on free running and its benefits v. possible harms because there weren't any colorful pictures. Plus, three pages of comments? I can understand how that could be way too much reading to catch up on (not like any threads go for 20+ around here). Your strategy of just barging in and proclaiming alpha male dominance may work around your friends (I'm sure they are spray tanned and come complete with V neck shirts and chin strap facial hair), but around here that won't cut it.

You make a reasonable argument, and then cloud it with put-downs and ignorance. No I did not read the 20+ pages in this thread, nor would I waste the time, when i can be reading documents of meaning. So maybe you were not one originally described in my first statement. However, you decided to defend and offend in your response, and now you batter with primitive and un-original insults.
You have now referenced my picture twice, and have really only continued to add evidence to the fact that you pass judgment on everyone, and either are not happy with yourself, or just envy others.
