Only one pound a muscle if you have great genetics..
More like .25lb or less for average genetics.. on a decent bulk
if your taking more protein in grams than you weigh per pound per day, your doing good.. You dont need 200grams more per day than your BW..

This summer I put on 20 lbs in 3 months body fat went up 2%..

So mine is a little bit higher than he said was possible but I've weighed 220lbs (1 year ago) and slowly went back down to 205 200 ish at 8-9% when I stopped lifting as heavy and eating as much. So maybe it will come back quicker? I noticed I have a lot harder of a time going from 220 to 230 than I did this summer going from 200-220.. and thats with 5 weeks of cardio at the end to lean out some.. Last summer it took me forever to get to 220 this summer I got there about a month faster... Weird I wouldn't say he's incorrect but his numbers are certainly reasonable..

So you gained about 5lbs of fat and 15lbs of muscle in the course of 3 months?
How was your BF tested if you dont mind telling? That much muscle doesn't seem possible IMO..
There is only a few accurate tests: water/dexa/mri, and they are expensive..
Most people would be happy with 15lbs of muscle over the course of 3 months on a cycle..

Beginner gains being an exception, I thought half a pound is whats about the average if you are decent genetic wise?

A pound a week would rock, if it was actual muscle ^.^ People just dont want to spend 12-18 months of true dedication to become stacked. Hence the trend of teenage roid users -.-

I had a skin fold test done prior to starting training, I was 22% BF (IIRC) at 6' and 190lbs.

At the end of the 1 1/2 month training, I weighed in 198lbs, ~20% BF.

The trainer did the math and I had gained 12 pounds of muscle and lost 4lbs of fat.

Diet was regular cafeteria food, whey protein and androlgel :)

You did not gain 12lbs of muscle in 6 weeks!!! lol

I doubt I did either. Its skin fold test and from what I have read very inaccurate. However, I would go as far as stating I didnt loose fat, but gained 8lbs of muscle.

Skin fold tests can be off by like 4-6 % lol..

I was about 112lbs a while back, no fat and a skin fold test said I was 14% BF.. WTF right lol..

I would say maybe 6lbs of muscle.. MAYBE..

You would know better than I.

I was just simply stating my experience with before and after muscle/BF comparisons :)

The reason I say that is because, realistically, a human with average genetics would be real lucky to hit .5lbs of muscle in a week on a bulking diet and heavy weight training program. .25 is more realistic, even on androgel..

Take into account your total test levels, free test, E2, prolactin, DHT levels. The amount of sleep you get each night, how many rest days you take a week. Alll of that can hurt or help you in the muscle building process depending on if those numbers are positive or negative..

When I bulk natty, I might get a 1-2lb of muscle in a month. Big might. And I go up to 5000cals a day.

Pretty much,

I used electrolysis testing at the same time everyday as a base line for testing and then had a skinfold test done at the beginning and ending just to kind of ensure a little bit more accuracy because electrolysis and skin fold are both notorious for being inaccurate.

Along with the fact that I had 6500 cals a day 8+ hours of sleep a night and hard training I put on a lot of size. My bench went from 230 for 5 (lowest its been in a few years) to 305 for 5..DL went from 365 for 5 to 455. These numbers are impressive to put on that much strength in such a short amount of time.. But I have been at that strength before so I believe my body just responded back to the training and muscle memory took over.

Ahhhh, good ole muscle memory ;)

Look at layne nortorns study. There's a thread already that discussed it
