Volcom's Nata-Prime-Pro-911-Madrol-iian log

Ah, is this where the practice of speed deads stem from? I understand, I thought you were referring to deloading intra-workout, or more clearly put, pyramiding, then reverse pyramiding the same exercise.

Thanks for explaining.

The speed deads concept is a tad different, but this is done on each workout for a week to hone technique and power.

It has a lot to do with how long you've been performing them (lots of coordination, neural factors involved), whether you're using wraps or not, are you using a switch grip (under-over), you know your technique in regards to how close your holding the bar is right around where it should be if you've had a couple mishaps with shin scrapes. Length of your arms and legs can effect it.

My squats are no where near the ball park of my deads, not even the same city and I find that a bit odd myself, more then a hundred plus pounds apart.

My form = arms placed at rshoulder length and my feet under the bar stop pause, and i do under and over and then i do over over never under under as of yet
is this bad form, like i say i only get into the deadlift on my back days and sometimes by the time it comes to dead lift im too used up and worry about injury bc im **** out

You could have answered your own question. Your form sounds okay, but ending a back day with dead lifts will certainly effect what you can do. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Unless DL's are one of your favorite lifts, not having a strong DL relative to your strength on everything else is inconsequential, imo.

If anything, the largest factor apart from the tightness of your lower back during the lift, is how close you are keeping the bar to your body during lift off.

Manny vs Mayweather is officially off, don't know why, but Manny is scheduled for Margarito (whoever that is), in Vegas or New Mexico, meh. I appreciate boxing, but I'm not a real fan. I was only interested in Manny vs Mayweather.

I had another sub-par performance day, but I have myself to blame for that. I didn't go to sleep until 2-3am last night and woke up around 8:30am. Sat up and stared at the wall until about 9:45am and dragged my zombie arse to the gym.

Saturday's are too psychologically hard to skip for me. It's a thin line from listening to your body to rest or toughing out a lazy spirit.

OVERHEAD SQUATS
95lbs x 8 reps
105lbs x 4 reps (this started off the bad day; I was having trouble maintaining balance)
105lbs x 5 reps
105lbs x 4 reps
110lbs x 5 reps
115lbs x 5 reps
120lbs x 2 reps

FRONT SQUATS - Cleans Grip
95lbs x 10 reps
135lbs x 10 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
205lbs x 5 reps
205lbs x 5 reps
225lbs x 3 reps

Anytime I squat, I always go the full hams to calves. My main concern isn't quad size, but strength and core stability, so I always go all the way down to maximally tax my core. The overhead squats are rough on the core. Like I've said before, the core taxation on that movement would put England to shame.

I really wished my workout partner wasn't on the injured list. I miss the extra push we give each other. Mentally, I felt like I could have finished off with Barbell Hack Squats, but physically, I was exhausted and a little nauseous, however, had I been with my buddy, I'm sure I would said fek it and done it anyways. Oh well.

I was just sitting here trying to figure out why I am so f'in hungry. Natadrol! I'm beginning to wonder if it's already kicking in a little bit. I took it about 15 minutes pre-meal today and I've been hungry since (even after the meal).

Well I am glad I held off getting some Natadrol lol.

Oh and DL today 505 for 6 but oh so close on 7. Then 550 for 2. Yet again baby soft skin. While my friend had a little stream of blood so the bar is capable of causing bleeding.

Lol, I hear you. I typically avoid appetite boosting supps because I tend to put on weight REAL fast and not the cool LBM kind.

Nice numbers, you can fully dead lift what I can rack, I'm lame.

It's the N-drol, hehe.

Yeah, I'm not used to be hungry 15 min after I eat a full meal. During a cut I may leave a meal a bit less then fully satiated, but I'm eating to my hearts content, quantity wise and I still get hungry relatively soon after.

The Mid-Fight Conversation Between Pat Barry and 'Cro Cop' You Didn't Hear

The Mid-Fight Conversation Between Pat Barry and 'Cro Cop' You Didn't Hear

Pat Barry could tell right away that he had a problem. He'd just floored his idol, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, for the second time in the first round of their UFC 115 bout with a beautiful right hand that landed flush on the Croatian's skull, and he knew immediately that he'd broken his hand in the process.

"The world couldn't see it because the camera wasn't close enough to my face, but as soon as I broke my hand – that was the second punch I landed that knocked him down – as soon as it happened, my lip was starting to tremble, and for two reasons. One, it hurt terribly. And two, I honestly thought that was going to be the end of my career. I never would have guessed that it was only one broken bone. I felt like all the bones in my hand were, like, entirely disintegrated."

The injured hand was a problem, Barry knew, but it wasn't the end of the world. He'd come into the fight with a game plan that hinged on two main weapons: his right hand and his right foot. At least he still had one. At least he could still kick his way to a victory even if his hand was shattered.

You know how this story goes. It's like that scene in a comedy movie where a beleaguered character remarks to himself that hey, at least it's not raining. Cue the thunder and lightning, the sudden angry downpour. Or, in Barry's case, the fractured foot.

"After the hand broke I panicked for a little bit, then I pulled myself together, thinking, it's just a hand, you've got other weapons," Barry said. "Then I threw a kick and broke my foot, and then I panicked. Complete, oh-sh*t-I-don't-know-what-to-do panic. I don't know how I got through the next two rounds. Honestly, it was like I could hear the clock slow down. Those rounds went from five minutes to about a half-hour each."

Part of how he got through, he said, was by putting his sense of humor to work for him. After the first, when he came back to his corner and told his coach that his two main weapons were now non-operational, the only advice he got was to get on his bicycle and try to score some points and survive for the next two rounds.

"I said, 'Excuse me? Did you not hear what I said? I got nothing.' So we started laughing about it, and that's what sort of enabled me to get back up for round two."

Barry managed to get off the stool for the second frame, but he was a fraction of the fighter he'd been in the first. He tried to talk himself into throwing the right hand. He kept seeing the openings for it, and it was tough to resist. He told himself to stop being a baby. How horribly could it hurt, anyway?

So he threw it. Bad idea.

"I almost screamed," Barry said. "I'm not manly enough to say that didn't hurt. It hurt a lot. I mean, a lot."

It didn't take "Cro Cop" long to notice the change that had come over his opponent. One minute he'd been knocked flat on his backside by a right hand from Barry, then it was as if Barry had decided to completely abandon the weapon that had been working so well, and Filipovic didn't know why. Rather than guess at the reason, he went straight to the source.

"We were on the ground in the second and he was on top of me punching me and he asked me what was wrong," said Barry. "He said, 'What's wrong with you? Why'd you stop fighting?' I told him, 'I broke my hand,' and he was like, 'Bullsh*t.' I said, 'No sir. My hand is broken. That hand is gone.'"

The way Barry saw it, there wasn't any point in lying to his opponent about it. Even if Filipovic knew that the right hand was no longer a factor, he'd still have to worry about the left. And besides, what were the chances that he'd really take Barry's word for it? He might as well tell the guy the truth, he reasoned.

Barry made it to the third round that night before finally being overwhelmed by a late surge from "Cro Cop." A sharp punch combo in the final minute dropped him, and a few seconds later Filipovic slapped on a rear naked choke that Barry, with his broken claw of a right hand, was unable to defend.

After the fight Barry took all sorts of criticism for letting his hero off the hook. People said he was too pleased with his own performance too early. They said he should have been trying to finish "Cro Cop" instead of high-fiving him. Some even said he didn't really want to beat his idol.

"Of course you always hear different questions and assumptions. Some people are like, 'I hope you got paid a lot to throw the fight,' which is just absurd. Then there's others saying, 'You were scared of beating your idol,' or the one that bugs me the most, 'You were showing him too much respect.' What does that mean? Does it mean, I got in the ring and respected his abilities in the fight? I don't know. How can you have too much respect for 'Cro Cop'? He's 'Cro Cop'!"

Now Barry's right hand is out of the cast six weeks early, thanks to what he sees as his Wolverine-like mutant healing ability. He still doesn't use the hand, though. Not even to brush his teeth or start his car.

To help the healing process along, he sings to his injured hand. "Rosanna" by the band Toto works best, he said, although "Africa" will do in a pinch.

It's hard for him not to feel frustrated by being so close to putting away his idol only to get injured and see the chance of a lifetime slip away, but he's trying to stay positive. It helps to remember the moment he would later be criticized for, when both he and "Cro Cop" paused to high-five one another and smile in appreciation of each other. That's something you don't forget, he said, even if you didn't come out on the winning end that particular night.

"How cool is it that 'Cro Cop' gave me a high-five twice in the first round? To me, that was an acknowledgement of my presence, an acknowledgement from him that, hey, you did show up to fight and you deserve to be in this cage. That's what I took from it. That means a lot."

I like Pat Barry and in spite of my historic, nut-hugging of Mirco. Had Barry not broken his hand, I'm fairly confident he would have taken the fight by the 2nd or the 3rd. While Barry had his full arsenal, he was making Mirco or Mirko look sort of bad, (which sadly, as of recent times, is actually not that uncommon).

Nick Diaz Responds to Mayhem Miller

I acknowledge that I'm in the very small minority of people who actually like the Diaz brothers and I don't know why, because they are idiots and pro douche rags, but I think I find them entertaining because most fighters "act" hard and talk like they'd do anything, anywhere, to anyone, but I'm convinced these two idiot brothers are the real thing and I think I find the integrity of their @-holeness refreshing or something.

But again, I understand why most people can't stand the Diaz brothers, I really do. Probably the same reasons I hate the Browning brothers, only the Diaz's aren't that far out there, imo and they don't seem like indiscriminate pop off's. Gawd I hated the Brownings.

Brief Fedor Inteview on Werdum

In a translation written by youtuber BuilDozerrrr in reference to Fedor Emelianenko’s interview after the stunning loss to top 10 ranked fighter and former ADCC champion Fabricio Werdum, Fedor speaks about how he feels towards the fight:

Fedor, how do you feel?
Good, don’t feel anything special.

We, the fans, feel for you.
Thank you.

On the possible rematch with Werdum:
If Fabricio Werdum agrees on a rematch, of course I would like to have one. I became the victim of my own mistakes. Things like that happen.

Did you prepare yourself in the discipline of Brazilian Ju Jitsu. Do you think that it was a mistake that you did not bring a BJJ specialist to train with?
No. I don’t train Ju Jitsu at all. I train in Sambo. Sambo is a superior fighting/grappling system. That night it was my own mistake that caused theI loss (not a mistake made in training & preparation). I was overconfident.

About the date of the rematch:
I would be glad to take the rematch at any time. But this is a question for Vadim and Strikeforce.
I do not take these decisions myself.

Fabricio Werdum was very positive and open to do a rematch in Russia. What do you think about this?
If Fabricio organizes it, I would be glad (everybody laughs; Fedor is refering to he difficulties that M1 are having to promote MMA events in Russia). MMA is not welcome there. Says something about sponsors that I can not hear well

Will you be present as a guest at the East-West European final on the 2-nd of July?
I would like to. Most probably yes.

Would you change anything in your preparation for the next fight?
No. I think that my preparation was excellent and my trainers did a good job to get me in my best shape.

Short and sweet. I also appreciate Fedor's integrity in shooting straight from the hip on how he feels about BJJ relative to Sambo, in his opinion.

Jon Jones

Just curious, how do you guys feel about Jon Jones? Is he the future of his division? Never champ, but always elite? half hype, half talent? Or all hype?

His reputation seems to precede his actual competition, imo. I legitimately think he's good, great display of Greco Roman, great power, longest reach in MMA or something, effective GnP, but I'm underwhelmed by the competition at which all these successes have been highlighted. He effed up Vera, but Vera doesn't impress all that much.

Big Nog on Mir: "A ground fight would be nice, my Jiu Jitsu is better"

Rodrigo Nogeuria thinks a ground fight in his UFC 119 rematch with Frank Mir “would be very nice to see”, given that both of them have such accomplished jiu jitsu games. He also told Tatame Magazine in his native Brazil that he has not used much jiu jitsu in his recent fights because opponents are avoiding the ground with him.

“It's the game I like, really, but I'm not doing much of it recently because of a lack of opportunity. But when the fighting does go to the floor I feel very comfortable, I feel much more comfortable on the floor than standing, actually” he said. “Standing is like a stampede, the hand comes from all over the place.”

As for Frank Mir, himself a decorated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt with well-regarded skills on the ground, Nogueira thinks he has the edge on the floor (the ground battle will be interesting in the context of Mir’s comments about Nogueira having “such basic jiu jitsu” when they coached TUF 8)

“I think Frank is a good finisher. A floor fight between us would be very nice to see, but I think my game on the ground has just a little more. I am slightly larger and I believe in my gas. He has a fair game, but I think my game is a little better, so I believe I am a little better in the game, more complete,” he said.

Speaking of TUF 8, Nogueira coached Ryan Bader as part of his team on that season and Bader is now facing Nogueira’s twin brother Rogerio on the same UFC 119 card, an unhappy but common coincidence in the small world of top-level MMA.

“Coincidentally that fight is against a guy that I trained for three or four months there at the time of the UFC reality show… it will be like fighting twice in one night [for me], it makes me very focused. One helps the other. It's very motivating for me, let's remember that time of Pride, when we made many battles.”

UFC 119 takes place on September 25th in Indianapolis and will be headlined by the Nogueira brothers in their respective fights against Mir and Bader. The card also features the UFC debut of former K-1 champion and PRIDE veteran Mark Hunt.

My knee jerk reaction-answer is Nog has the better Jits, but I'm probably not as confident about that as some people are.

My wife tried to make a "healthy lasagna" this weekend, which is fat free cheese, top pasta layer, cottage cheese, middle pasta layer, lean ground and bottom pasta layer.

The cottage cheese instead of the riccota cheese actually tastes pretty damn good. The greatest downfall was that fat free cheese, being absent of most of its oils, doesn't really melt, so out of the oven, you can crusted cheese on top. However, I discovered that the fat free cheese will quasi-melt (enough) in the microwave, so I think we'll give this healthy lasagna another shot, but use chicken sausage instead of lean ground this time.

The point of this message is that fat free cheese will melt in the microwave, for those of us who have tried to cook healthy using fat free cheese in the oven and it came out to feed the trash compactor better then ourselves.

Things Are Finally Starting to Kick in

I had a B+ workout today. I haven't felt I've achieved any extraordinary workouts lately, but they come & go.

The biggest symptoms I've felt today, a good boost in muscle endurance and an above average boost in strength. Today's chest day is far from a traditional workout. I do an odd volume blast that seems to be working for me and I only do it every so often. I'll probably continue this strange routine I concocted until my body stops responding positively to it.

My appetite increase is still as strong as ever and though I don't mind grazing all day like a milk cow, it's the late night, 10-12pm hunger pains that start to be a problem. I need to restock my fridge with better ish is the solution really.

This routine I'm about to post have set number of reps I like to reach and I haven't reached these quotas in awhile. I felt strong during the sets and I could tell mid-way through, that my muscle endurance had taken a vast increase. Whenever I'm on a supp that deals with strength of any kind, my muscle endurance is always the first to show signs of response to the supp and then my peak strength starts to increase shortly after.

I don't always hit these numbers. I've actually only hit all these set numbers once, the last time I was on PRIME. I only train my chest like this, "on occasion," and next time I intend to up the weight for the same rep goals.

Traditionally, I do a 3-4 set pyramid or a 5x5 heavy sets, but I've gone back & forth on the chest pendulum enough times that regardless as to the optimal benefits or not, of what I'm doing, it's newer, its refreshing, I like it and its keeping me interested. Given that my primary interests are focused on my Oly-lifts, my premier concerns are back, shoulders and legs, so wanting to work chest is something I need to keep fresh or I just won't train it. I obviously know I can push more weight if I dropped the volume, but optimizing my bench numbers isn't one of my concerns at the moment. It might be soon, but not today.

On a side note, I haven't isolated bi's or tri's for maybe 6 months now.

damn son, good numbers up there

Thanks. They're not the biggest numbers I can put up, say if I only did 3-4 sets, but I'm not really going for chest strength at the moment. I probably will before the end of this thread, but at the moment, I just need to do new things to keep me interested as far as chest is related.

Strangely enough, my 3-4 sets numbers aren't really dramatically higher. On a decent day, a "regular" chest workout would go something like 225x10, 265x10, 295x8, 315x4-6 depending. My strength threshold has been 315 for 4-6, rarely 8 and I haven't been able to push past that.

Lost my cell phone today, which is uber lame considering where I lost it. I work as a paralegal at a law firm from 9-5pm (S&C Coach 5-8am). I was in the restroom messing with my phone, long story short, I walked out the restroom without my phone. I realized it about 2-3 hours later, went back and its gone. That's to be expected, except no one has turned it in! AT A LAW FIRM!! I own the bottom line, worst of the worst phones to boot. My wife dropped my previous phone in her Top Ramen, so I just replaced that half way decent phone with a piece of ****e for the sake of having a cell phone, literally, the bottom of the bottom lines.

Not all the offices here are connected and not everyone in this building belongs to this firm, nonetheless, it's a professional building full of various law firms, insurance companies, what not. Sheeesh!! Is the economy THAT bad!

I've tried calling my phone over & over in concession, so if someone honest were holding it, they'd know someone was trying to contact this phone with some kind of intention (like the owner).

Power lifts are really hard to asses any kind of supplement aid, because power lifts involve perhaps more neural functions, as oppose to sheer muscle strength, so I can't really report on any benefits or the lack thereof.

My appetite is still up and if I don't clamp down on cleaning up my cravings, I'm going to have to shut this log down and jump on an emergency cut. On a more serious note, although I'm weighing about 214lbs at the moment, +2lbs of 99.99% water and stored glucose, I seem to look a bit leaner around the waste (first thing in the morning). I won't complain about that.

I forgot how hard it was to log a stack. I have a tendency to want to discuss the symptoms of a specific supplement, but its really hard to narrow down if they're like-products. I do know the Natadrol is still cranking on my appetite. The combination of the two hasn't provided the amount of strength I was initially anticipating, but the recovery time is rather significant and notable. My chest is prone to DOMS and that is about the only body part that has experienced any, for a duration beyond half a day or so.

nice numbers, do u feel motivated to complete more reps?

I'm contemplating prime in a few weeks, I've got 1200 tabs to play with :D

The best part is that my low back only feels slightly tweeked, but very, very minor. Also, how lame do you have to be to get light headed on rack deads, but my first rep at 585 almost knocked me out, but I kept it going.

I should note that I took 4 scoops of ASGT today. First workout where I've added it.

I don't know that I feel more motivated to do more reps. I find myself being able to do more reps, but I tend to operate under, if I can, then I'll try. The only time a supp will directly make me feel more motivated, are usually stims, or a workout partner of like or greater strength then myself.

I personally respond very well to PRIME. It's why I have ran PRIME 5-6 times, but I've been told that I'm just a "hyper-responder." I recommend PRIME, personally.

I'm sort of toggling between giving up on the Oly-Lifts or not. It's killing my knee joints and wrists. I just ordered some Animal Flex joint formula for the pain, but I don't know. I've never had knee pains until I started Oly-lifting and that's because the impact on the catch is pretty harsh. I wear literal, power lifting INZER knee wraps, but my knees still get sore.

After some dead lift convo on MrBig's log, I started to miss my previous obsession with dead lifts, but my DL's has limitations with my lumbar.

Initially, my traps responded tremendously to Oly-Lifts, but they seem to have stopped responding, in terms of hypertrophy and if my traps aren't responding growth-wise, then there goes half of my interest in Oly-Lifts, we'll see.

Also, I've been lethargic as all get out. On Saturday, I over-stimmed myself to try and get myself in the gym, and I've felt burnt and cracked out since Sat. I bought enough Natadrol for an 8 week run, but I don't think I'll make it for two full cycles.

In for the ride :) And no - I don't like Frank Mir

I haven't had any problems with joints so I can't really recommend anything personally but animal's products are top notch.

It all started when I started using actual, wood soled Oly Shoes and wasn't wrapping my knees, then they never seemed to fully recover. Lesson learned.

Last time I did this, I started on 185 and worked my way yo to 285 I believe, I'll have to double check, but I certainly felt a boost in strength and muscle endurance. Also, I know this isn't a traditional way to lift, but I've already explained why I'm currently taking this approach the last time I did this. I doubt I could start at 225 for 15's next time, but maybe I'll try.

It's so much easier to gauge how well a stack is working for me when I'm working out with my workout partner, because we're usually, rather close in strength. However, when I'm on a good stack, i can gauge it's efficacy by how much I outperform my workout partner in both strength, endurance and stamina. Without my gauge, its sometimes hard to distinguish natural progression of improved performance vs unnatural, supplement enhanced improvements. That said, this is the first time I've taken my hyper-volume chest routine this heavy. I've always started at 185 and progressed and starting at 205 today felt like I might have been able to push it just a tad harder. I can also tell my supps are in full swing, because I'm getting majorly lethargic.
