ADD

My Doctor has decided I may have adult ADD. Actually after reading a book on it I can see it as something I may have had my whole life, but went undiagnosed since it was relatively unknown when I was growing up in the '80's.

Anyway, she wants to hold off on meds for that specifically atm since they are stimulants and my BP was 148/97 yesterday :(

So, I know Omega 3's are supposed to be good for people with ADD, but was wondering what nootropics may aid me with it as well.

I'm also going toward more of a keto style diet as carbs are supposed to exacerbate ADD.

FWIW my version is one without hyperactivity. I get bored REAL easy, don't sleep because my brain doesn't stop thinking, and have a bazillion ideas but lack the focus to actually follow through on any of them. Basically my brain never shuts up.

Nootropics aren't my area of expertise so any advise is appreciated.

First off, 'it sounds like with hyperactivity' describes your boredom and inattention, may just wanna double check that if u typed it wrong or somethin..

second, as for treatment, people have had success in supplementing with caffeine.. sounds odd but they find that the caffeine helps stimulate the rest of the brain to catch up with the hyperactive areas, releases dopamine

I havent read anything on diet and ADHD tho, but the thing with carbs makes sense as carbs can make people tired.. also keto is pretty good for brain function with the higher fats, so that may help

You sound just like me! I'm 35 and have ADD, officialy diagnosed but refused to pay $400 for Adderal so I treat it naturally. I exercise 1 hr/day, take various nootropics, Phenibut to calm my racing thoughts and so far so good. Some days are better then others but I've managed to stay at one job for over 3 years and even pull myself through college with decent grades. Yeah...definitely start taking those Omega 3's but they're not the miracle pill. Good luck!

No, I meant without hyperactivity. I don't bounce off the walls or anything, all my symptoms tend to be overactive brain function...like I said my mind doesn't shut up and so many thoughts go through that I have a hard time focusing on any one in order to accomplish anything. If I am having a conversation when the other person is speaking my mind goes elsewhere...even if I'm interested in it.

About the only physical symptom I have I have is that I constantly tap my finger, tap my foot, play air guitar, ect.

I have a hard time reading because my brain tends to skip paragraphs...the next thing I know I finish a chapter and I don't remember reading most of it.

I guess if we wanted to we could call it ADHD anyway as ADD is the old term and most medical professionals just call it all ADHD now.

You might want to look into Deprenyl (selegiline).

Isn't that an MAOI? I'm already on an anti-depressant so that may not be an option.

Thank you for not making me feel alone in this.

Are you taking the Phenibut at night to sleep? My Dr, gave me sleeping pills to help me sleep, she also gave me valium to keep me calm during the day as needed.

ADD and ADHD are still different. Be careful with the Phenibut, and research before trying. You may whant to research piracetam too.

I take Phenibut in the afternoon after I get home from work - it has calming effect and helps you relax, sleep is much better - deeper. I take 500 mg total, any more than that and it'll knock you out. I was prescribed Xanax and was taking 0.25 - 0.5mg but didn't like it so I stopped......PM me if you wanna chat more.

By researching the past few days it seems alot of ADD treatment is based around stimulating Dopamine production. It also seems like PEA has shown promise in ADD/ADHD related issues.

Any comments or does anyone have good recommendations on stimulating Dopamine?

PM me if you wanna chat more.

I may take you up on that if I ever remember to get around to it....lol

I've been using the sleeping pills (Trazadone) the past few days and they help ALOT. It feels good to actually sleep a long sleep as opposed to "micro sleeping" every few hours. I still have a 1000 mph brain in the morning though :(

I just stated taking ALCAR, L-Tyrosine, and DL Phenylalanine and all I can say is WOW!.

I've been on ALCAR a month or so and thought it was so-so. I just finished a book by Dr Daniel Amen called "Healing ADD" and he had a natural cures section that said L-tyrosine and DL Phenylalanine along with a low carb diet and exercise helped his patients.

I already exercise, so I got the DL Phenylalanine and tyrosine, added the ALCAR and started the Anabolic Diet.

I am a new man.

I feel like before I was trying to run underwater and now I am on dry land. I think faster, clearer, more focused, and my mood improved.

IMO this is an awesome stack for ADD.

Noots is something I do know about. I'd look for another more specialist forum.

"Natural" it ain't that simple. Krill oil and PAS (EndoAmp Max) possible. Studies supporting it? Few... Stimulants, yes but you'll get tolerance. Cycle them? Yes you can.

Prescription stuff ... watch for tolerance, you don't wanna be hooked on some of that stuff.

I could real off a whole bunch of stuff - I don't want 'cause its muscle/body forum not a noots forum.

I would take a two pronged approach:
1. Get a stack with mega-C mega-B and multi-minerals and balanced omegas. Make sure you're body is healthy. It will take 6 months for it to kick in effectively. Workout. Understand how high GI carbs cause problems. Understand homeostasis - calm body, calm mind.
2. Either get a script (avoid Adderall) - at a guess you'll get Ritalin - or understand the finer details of noots. IMO to get noots working properly takes alot of doing and CDP choline IMO takes months to kick in.
1 and no 2 then use adaptogens
1 + 2 adaptogens are not too effective
2 only adaptogens not effective.

Complicated...

Your doc. right ;)

Hang on a minute 148/97 wow... stop press. Geee... I'm doing 3 fat-burners right now and I thought my cortisol was high.

You've got to get that down. Cycle Support :) AI its a classic.

Otherwise Hawthorn berry/ celery seed route 1.

Check everything blood everything. Get cardio ... but whatever you do don't panic ;)

Whatever is the source of that 97 there's a supplement to counter it. In most cases.

If you can't get that down - and that could the source of ADD - you need a beta blocker, statins, etc....

Actually that might well be your doc. - worrying. I'd be worried but whatever you do ... don't worry it'll send your pulse higher.

lol. It really was my Dr.

My normal BP run high 120's/ high 80's.

Once it was 188/118 and I was on absolutely nothing! That was before I lifted when I was really out of shape.

I am extremely stressed atm, but also extremely broke so I won't be getting anything else anytime soon.

Magneisum, DHA, and Phosphatidyl Serine are some of the products that we sell that people seem to report positive benefits from regarding their/their children's ADD/ADHD.

I'll be sure to include ALCAR, Tyrosine and DLPA to the stack when people ask me what may help.

I don't know how it would work for ADD, but 5 Hour Energy works well for me when I need to concentrate.

Give theanine a try. It will increase focus and alertness while relaxing at the same time. It's subtle but every little bit helps.

Do you take it daily?

yeah 100mg 2-3x a day. You only want to get enough to have mild effects. Over the course of a month you can decide if it's right for you or not. At higher dosages it will have more powerful effects but that would only be beneficial for shorterm use.

Yes.

I haven't tried using it on a daily bases. I find it works like mild xanex when I dose it at 1g. I try not to do that often. The last bottle I had, my body seemed to adapt rather quickly.

Yea, that's smart. I wouldn't use that kind of dosage on a daily basis. I did not have success with cognitive nutrition. Even dosages up to 2,000mg's had probably similar effects of other brands of suntheanine at 200mg's. I didn't find the quality to be good in my experience. It may even have been compared to a placebo. I like NOW 200mg caps. Here's the profile.

200 to 400mg theanine with 1,000 to 1,500mg gaba is pretty nice combo for relaxation.
