Risks of whey protein?

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, so I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but here goes.
I want to start using protein powder after working out to maximizae muscle building. The problem is that my dad is skeptical.(im 15) I just want to know from people that have or are currently using protein powders if there are any real health risks.
P.S. I plan on getting syntrax nectar roadside lemonade.
Thanks!

Aside from high protein diets which have been linked to chronic renal disease; no, there aren't any. Also be aware that not every company puts into their product what the label says (including whey).

I've never tried Syntrax, but adding a whey protein supplement to your diet isn't going to hurt you IMO as long as you don't abuse it (did I really just say that?). Don't start replacing all of your meals with shakes either. Your dad probably thinks that you are trying to buy a weight gainer and/ or just doesn't understand what you're trying to do. The more you educate yourself on the subject the more you can teach him. Good luck.

make sure to steer clear of American Whey. unless you want peices of rodent in your powder for extra protien:food:

I haven't tried Syntrax, although I have tried quite a few proteins and my absolute favorite is All The Whey's - I especially favor Cupcake Batter.

Best of luck!

If you want to try nectar, look at your local grocery store! Their selling small powder packets(under different name then nectar) as tasty protein water mix's! The lemonade is good, the strawberry kiwi is good, pink lemonade, I have tried them all and they are pretty damn good! Its best with ice cold water!

The risk are low. Stick with a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. I heard Nectar was a very tasty protein supplement. Just an FYI, Vitamin Shoppe has Dymatize Elite Protein for 17.99. That is a great deal.

The price really isnt an issue, and I found a place online that is quite cheap with free shipping. (drugstore[.]com

But dont worry about protein hurting you. They say that high protein diets can cause digestive problems. This is if your protein diet is 4 times your body weight, Exaggerated of coarse. But you will figure out which one you like through experience. Options like: whey, casein, mrp's, weight gainer, etc. If you just want post workout drink there a some nice companies that make a supplement just for postworkout. I would check that out. This can give you all sorts of benefit. One that i would recommend for just regular day is chia pro. This is good for considering your health also.

As i said before I think I'm going to go with Syntrax Nectar.
:saw:

Thanks. I'm getting Syntrax Nectar.
Have you considered Syntrax Nectar?:zx11pissed:

Its just that almost everyone that has posted has recommended that i get x product. I'm trying to point out that i DONT want elite or anything else. I already made my choice on the powder, I just wanted to know the potential risks.

There are no potential risks to adding whey protien to your diet at a young age. I began drinking protien shakes and taking multi-vitamins when I was 13 and can attribute my size and strength all through high school to a strict diet complete with high protien intake as well as hard training. Good thing your getting into bodybuilding early, just make sure you work out smart to keep yourself uninjured. Good Luck!

Yeah, I have been taking vitamins for ever, there really is no downside, as a kid, its just a gummy bear. I still use the gummy bear ones because they taste the best lol.

I was teasing you. I know what you asked. :)

The only thing you could run into is gas or intestinal disturbance depending upon the product you choose and how you respond. Good luck.

Unless you are going to consume 4 or 5 times your body wait stop worrying. Eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids. Of course if you have medical problems with kidneys, etc. you may want to be careful. This is not an anabolic; you will be fine. Google.com is your friend. You can find several articles about whey protein.

Thanks, I had my dad email my doctor, who said it was fine and will be receiving my first shipment of powder in the near future.

Glad to hear you are getting what you want. You'll be fine. Good luck with your progress.

True, I was focusing on adding whey protien safely at a young age. There definently are side effects from extremely high intakes of protien in relation to your weight. But at a young age, properly increasing your protien intake through whey protien supplements is safe, ensuring that you are getting an adequete fiber intake as well.
I hope that clears things up.:outtahere:
