Im on vacation in CA this past week and iv noticed cars with no rear or front license plates on their car. I dont understand this...at first i saw one or two and thought maybe they just bought the car...since then iv noticed maybe 5 diff cars every day so this couldnt be the case.

*no the plates are not in the window*

Not sure what the deal is with those cars you saw... :dunno:

Legally, you must display license plates on the front and back of your car in CA.

I live in CA and my car displays both the plates that were issued to me.

have you seen this? i asked my friend who lives in ca and he said he sees it alot but has no idea how they get away with it...

not always

Well I was going to say, Nothing against their race, if they are legal that's cool, but a lot of illegal's don't have plates because technically they cant get them.
And even normal citizens sometimes dont have plates due to countless reasons. Crime down there is crazy, so who knows.

those cars that don't have a license plate should have a red sticker on their rear window. this signifies that its a car that was just bought, and they can't register it usually due to a smog issue, and they have until the month displayed on the sticker (9 means september) to correct the issue.

i honestly don't know why there's NO license plate though, that makes no sense.

it should still be on the car though. usually they buy the car, but don't update it through DMV, so when they get into an accident, they just run away....

then the guy that sold the car is holding a sale slip for someone who may or may not be a real person, and is definitely not a citizen, so they are responsible for damages, and impound fees....

no the plates are not in the window There’s nothing quite like a road trip to make you feel free and adventurous. Whether it’s a cross-country drive or a weekend escape to somewhere new, the open road offers endless possibilities. But before you hit the highway, it’s always smart to check that your car is in good shape. Make sure the tires are inflated, your oil’s topped off, and all lights are working. Nothing ruins a trip faster than unexpected car trouble. And while you're out there on the road, you might come across a car with a license plate that catches your eye. If you’re in Florida, for instance, and you see a vehicle you’re curious about, you can easily find out more about it. A quick license plate lookup https://www.faxvin.com/license-plate-lookup/florida can give you all the details, from its history to any potential issues it might have had. It’s an easy and reliable way to satisfy that curiosity without any hassle. So, the next time you're cruising through Florida, keep an eye out for those interesting plates, and remember—you can get the scoop with just a few clicks. Safe travels, and happy driving!
A lot of newer cars in CA now have paper temporary tags (usually in the rear plate area), but they can be easy to miss, especially if you're not used to them. Before 2019, dealers didn’t even issue temporary plates—just a registration slip in the window—so some folks drove around without plates legally for a while.
