Training after giving blood

So I gave blood a couple hours ago. I feel fine now. Gonna eat a decent size meal here soon and was hoping to hit the weights in a few hours. Is that ok to do? Also, does anyone have any objections to following the usual supp regimen of fatburners, anti-oxidants and good fats?

hopefully someone chimes in with more knowledge than me, but i dont think its safe cuz u have less blood flowing through ur body, and i have had friends pass out from working out after giving blood, so imo i would take the day off and go tommorrow but thats just me

I would sugget not working out today. If you do, take it real light. Did you perform a whole blood or apheresis donation? You just lost a least a pint of blood so I would take it easy. I know you iron content is going to be lower after a donation. I am not sure on how fast your body recovers after a donation to return to vigurous activity. I have only went to the gym one time after giving blood and I did feel light headed but I did not pass out but everyone is different. I know a phlebotomist/techician would tell you not to work out.

The nurse said to not work out for a few days. That's too long. The website for the place that I donated said about 5 hours or so. Eh I'll do a very light one. Any sign of dizziness and I'll pack it in. Thanks for the comments guys.

I gave blood a couple of weeks ago (in afternoon), and trained BJJ the morning after, and my cardio was totally gone, I ended up wheezing like a 90 year old smoker. Worst I've ever felt.

Make sure you get your essential vitamins in after, and take it easy.

You shouldn't have to wait a few days. I work for a blood center and give blood everytime we have a in-house drive and I am back working out the following day. But make sure you take in the proper nutrirnts before hitting the gym and don't try to kill your self on the first day.

I went to the gym and had a decent workout. I did take it a little easier than usual, but had no problems. I also ate a couple good meals and and plenty of vitamins. I feel great.

probably late to chime in but plasma levels arent replenished for a 1 day, RBC levels arent completely replenished for 2-7days (depending on age and gender). If you can workout without getting mazximal oxygen to your muscles (which is highly unlikely) then its fine otherwise i would wait a bit, plus it also effects post exercise nutrition delivery. I'd wait u have nothing to gain from going right now.

I know this is kind of late, but I've worked for Red Cross and have done many Blood Drives. I would highly recommend anyone who has given blood recently not to attempt any physical activity at all. Your body is just too weak and is not ready for it.

Please avoid training after donating blood. Give it about 24-48 hours before you attempt some MODERATE weightlifting. I wouldn't even recommend going immediatly into high intensity training.
