Everyone Loves Arachidonic Acid...

Just thought a bit of medical literature may change your opinions on another 'fad' supplement...

Cliff Notes: A rise in Arachidonic Acid increases inflammatory response which negatively affects the Tunica Intima and Tunica Media thusly weakening blood vessel walls which furthers Atherosclerosis.

This has been adressed over and over. Long term elevation, which is diet and lifestyle induced, is a completely different beast.

Yet, Halodrol's new formulation contains it and that seems to be a thriving product...

I've read lipid levels being off for months after coming off Halodrol. Perhaps from the Arachidonic Acid lipid derivative?

No halodrol Lg's are not a thriving product... but the ph halodrol is a thriving 'product'

Halodrol Lg's also contain DHEA ( a 'ph' which CAN cause shutdown if not taken properly and CAN have a negative impact on lipids)... if ur reading logs about the ph's halodrol then obviously u need to do more research... i have never seen a study indicating short term elevations in AA synthesis or AA have negative health effects unless u already have an underlying illness for instance one of the inflammatory diseases

Halodrol fcking lipids would be a side effect of their original halodrol, not the arachidonic acid based liquigels.

This stuff is not my expertise, but I don't understand why this article would be considered BS? ... especially considering the stuff that passes as "literature" in the supplement world.

Although, using the word "thusly" is nonsense.

Yes AA is in the many foods naturally as well..
I've always thought it was a retarted supp imho.. I work in open heart surgery- the arachidonic acid pathway is, as stated, an inflammatory pathway which is can be bad for your heart-- not something a bodybuilder needs, especially one who takes any form of steroids (not that you are).. Luckily for these supp companies, BBers are always awaiting the "next great supp"... and sometimes forgetting about regular Aminos and Proteins.

Agreed.. I always though AA was a terrible pass off for bodybuilding needs. The inflammation pathway to build muscle is just down right incongruous.

I do like how the NEJM is being called BS, and AM is being hailed as having all the correct information. :dunno:

im not trying to argue or disagree with u... but if AA is "a terrible pass off for bodybuilding needs" then how come the two best protein sources for building muscle contain it in relatively large amounts (whole eggs and beef)... coincidence... i dont think large amounts of AA is healthy for long periods of time but a small increase of AA helps support muscle hypertrophy... i also think that the balance of the different fatty acids is key...

Did anyone even read the article?

Unless you have either of these 5-LOX variant alleles (which 6% of a poorly sampled study sample had), neither AA nor EPA/DHA had any effect on intimal thickness over 1.5 years. AA didn't increase the thickness, and EPA/DHA didn't decrease it.

But DAdams, I have to agree, I do love (sarcasm) how the NEJM is being trashed as "garbage". Really makes me laugh at people sometimes. Our most respected medical journal is BS? Oh. :dunno:

Ive used AA supplementation. The gains were good, and feeling of well being... but its just not worth the health risks - albeit if it's only peace of mind and not factual.

AA has been shown to be elevated in obese people. There is a correlation between obese and high AA levels.

Does that mean AA is the culprit for heart disease? No. All of those who have high AA levels are obese...

All this high AA levels are not healthy if the most you do in a day is get up to reach a 2L of Pepsi from the fridge.

Hmm, interesting read. I'm currently using Max Out and will finish up this cycle but I'll never buy it again. Not really because of this study about ArA but because it really didn't do much for me. I'm in my 4th week and my weight hasn't increased any more than usual and my strength has only gone up marginally more than typical.

I'm not obese... Are you telling me that supplementing AA will make me obese? I'm not touching a fukcin retarded supplement like AA, so telling me it's going to make me fat isn't going to help convince me to try it... WTF!?

Looks like you are not obese, you have a definitive lack of intelligence.. Read it properly next time.

Do I look obese? :P

My point, if you can read, is: Obesity gives you a heart attack. Not necessarily AA.

I thought this was pretty clear...

im surprised they havent looked up a bunch of studies showing how "bad" AA supplementation is and copy and pasted them on here... if there was no need for AA then our bodies would not contain it... an increase in AA consumption will not kill u just like an increase in test wont kill you...:dunno:
