Thoughts

Had two tests today that went pretty well, but all I had on my mind today was my live bull pen. Got to practice and it was all business. My arm felt great and I had command of all my pitches. I was floating round 84 mph so my velocity is coming around. I threw about 90 pitches, 60 were strikes 30 were balls, no walks, 6k's, and ahead in the count a majority of the time. All my pitches were accurate and my change up was just dirty today. Threw a couple sliders which are coming along. My curveball was on today as well. I'm starting to get in the rhythm and in "the zone." I felt like I could have easly gone another 4 sets or innings, my arm felt great and loose.

Strength: 8/10
my velocity was consistant and about the same as last week, but my command is alot better. I rated it an 8 because Im not at my full potential for velocity.
Endurance: 10/10
through the roof today, felt like I could have thrown alot more
Performance:9/10
great today, 6 k's, no walks, no liners or solid hits. Even though Im very pleased with my performance, I know there is still more to come.
Mood 10/10
very positive today during my bull pen, and during my tests
Overall feeling of the day: 10/10
Great day everything went well

Got an early morning lift tomorrow, then 330 practice that will focus on conditioning and recovery from todays bull pen.

Yup this is about our 4th week of practice or so. I'm definetly to the point were Im mentally and physically ready. Although, I know I will still improve from here. Not sure about coldness but we'll be in the metrodome were the twins play.

Dang you get to play in the Metro dome, thats big time Sum. I wish I had a chance to play in a big stadium/arena like that. I'm jealous...

Thoughts
Was pretty restless last night, didnt fall asleep until around 2, and I woke up 3-4 times throughout the night. So it basically felt i was up all night. So I decided to bump my workout to 1 pm just before my 330 practice. My gym was closed from 11-1 which sucked because I dosed my CRE-02 and Cordygen5 at 945 anticipating to lift at 12, but It still seemed to have a little kick. My lift went good and I had extra wind, but I felt bloated or full or something, it was a weird feeling. But I still got through the workout without a problem. Practice went well, just threw a little bit to loosen the arm, and did out pitcher workouts, just an average day. I do notice that my arm is recovering faster with less soreness. Yesterday I threw 80+ pitches, and today It felt like I could have thrown another pen. While warming up there was no stiffness or soreness and I was throwing 90% without a problem. My arm has always recovered fairly fast, but this is faster than normal.

Strength: 9/10
Weights keep going up during maintainence phase, so my strength is still improving. But the weights are still a little lighter than they were preseason. I'll make my way there eventually.
Endurance: 9/10
Blew through my pitcher workout
Performance:N/A
Nothing really to note here, lift went great, but no bull pens.
Mood 10/10
was pretty happy today and excited about this weekend
Overall feeling of the day: 9/10
Today was a pretty average day, arm felt great.

Practice tomorrow, morning lift on friday, then Im heading to Minnesota in the afternoon!

So what are these 2 exercises
Bob's Reverse 3-way x20e
Rope T's x10

The BOB is for ankle stabalization and to prevent enjury. It also helps with stretching and strengthing leg muscles. The "3 way" is you do it with your feet striaght forward, then angled to the left and right. Heres a link to the commercial for it, it's really really cheesy but it gives a jist of what it's supposed to do.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeZ2J32zHrw"]YouTube - THE BOB INCREDIBLE CALF MASTER - LEG EXERCISE CALVES DEVICE[/ame]

Rope T's is basically a back fly, but your leaning back while holding onto two ropes and then lifting yourself up forming a "T" with your arms.

Thoughts

Weights on friday went well. All weights felt easy and went ATG on front squats. Definetly feeling more explosive. Diet was just terrible in terms of quality/quantity. We didnt have much time to eat and had no transportation to food, so i didnt really have a choice on what we ate. Packed some protein bars and stuff, but that only gets you so far.

Thoughts
threw a bull pen and the arm felt pretty good. other than that just an ordinary practice day. pretty laid back due to the fact we have 9 games in 6 days. Went to lift after practice and tore it up. Decided to throw and extra set of deads and did 340 easily. Definetly had extra energy and an extra wind/ weight felt lighter than usual, it was a good workout. When I get back from flordia we have a new lifting phase, so im excited to see what he'll have in store for us. Leaving for flordia tomorrow. i'll try and update as much as i can.

Strength: 9/10
dead lifted 340 with ease definetly could pull some more weight
Endurance: 9/10
Blew through my workout today and did most lifts with ease
Performance:7/10

Mood 10/10

arm felt alright, but i'll be rested up by the next couple days. Lift was great, and cant wait to progressively pull some serious weight.

Logs looking great brother...as soon as my internet service is back in full effect, i'll be in here commenting a lot more :)

Regarding your diet, is this directed by your stength and conditioning coach. Not asking because I think their's something lacking or anything, just wondering if your coaches are just as strict with that as your training routine.

My strength coach doesnt do much with diet and is more involved with the workout. I try to keep my diet as clean as possible, but as of late with traveling and what not it's been hard to keep it clean. Like tonight i had to get food from a gas station if i wanted dinner....During the summer all i eat is lean meats, fruits, veggies, whole grains and all that good stuff, so it sorta sucks but it works out. Well we won our first game tonight, and im starting on friday. Pretty long day and ready to get some sleep.

my posts for the next couple days will be pretty basic, due to double headers, practice, and getting adaquate sleep. But i'll try to be as detailed as I can. For the next 6 days im trying 4 cre-02 2 hours pregame. I busted open the sample packs.

How long does it take to do all that stuff?

workout takes about an hour, but it's a grueling hour.

Well we won 2 more today so were 3-0 so far. we have another two games tomorrow and I'm starting game two. I'm gonna dominate and go head on with every batter. Hoping for a shut out. Diet is still struggling, probably wont clean up until I get back to school. But I do have some healthy foods. Other than that just soakin up the flordia sun and enjoying it. I'll update tomorrow after my game to let you guys know how everything went.

well wasnt what i hoped today. struggled a little bit and my arm was hurting. But we still got the win, which is all that matters. We won both of our games today making us 5-0 so far. we have a 8am run because we dont have any games tomorrow. Hoping to get past this little road bump and get back on track. I havent noticed anything yet supplement wise. But i was not performing all that well anyways and was more focused on my arm if anything. I'm itching to get back in the weight room, but this is a nice little break from lifting and i'll be back at it on thursday or friday depending on the pitching situation for the weekend. We'll see how the run goes tomorrow.

yesterday was our off day, but we still had to get up at 7 to get a little run in. As a team we only ran 1.5 miles, but a very quick pace. I stayed after and ran the path we ran 4 more times. So I got about 7.5 miles in. After each set, I felt like I could do alot more, so i just kept running. I felt like I was in the zone, i just kept on going and going, felt like i could go forever, but I knew we had a double header the next day so I cut it a little short. it was a great feeling. It was nice not having to run on a treadmill for once.

Today we had 2 games against 2 different teams, we ended up splitting. First game I went 2/3 with a triple and a single. We got creamed by the second team. I swear to god every kid on that team was juicing, it was frikken ridiculous. Every kid was 6'4+ 230+ and they just ripped the sh!t out of the ball. Every batter looked like the clean up batter. By far the best hitting team i've seen. We got an early morning double header and I'll be in relief tomorrow.

So the endurance is way up so far??? Looks like it to me haha, 7.5 miles jeez, on an "off day"

So the endurance is way up so far??? Looks like it to me haha, 7.5 miles jeez, on an "off day"

It's way up. the most long distance i have ran in a while is a moderate speed for 20 minutes for pitcher workouts, and my HIIT treadmill work. Although I do run more long distance over the summer. So with that being said for me to feel just great and enjoy a long run like that is pretty remarkable. I ran varsity cross country my freshman year and ran about a 17 min 3 mile. I've gained 65 pounds since then and have excelled in sprinting, muscular endurance and strength, and my long distance went down. It's not that I cant run for long distance, i just cant keep a fast pace like I used to. So it sorta reminded me of my cross country days.

Man a 17 min 3 mile is fast. I ran cc as a senior and was at a pretty good cc school and my best was 18 min. I absolutely hated it though. The coach would just make us run around 8 straight miles a day. I had fun at the meets though, tons of hot girls in short shorts haha

I have never ran more than two miles. And, that time I did (4 or so years ago) I ran it under 20 minutes.

Yous damn good runners, you.

haha thanks, my body is definetly made for muscular endurance/endurance (I like the burn!), but im versitle enough were I respond and improve well to different types of exercise.

We had a double header yesterday and ended up splitting again, we definetly should have won both. Got some time in at third and my arm felt great! I've been having trouble the last week with arm pain, but I have found out it is because I have not found my natural arm slot yet. When I was at third I was throwing as hard as a could, very accurately, pain free. So when im pitching I have to think Im at "third," then I should definetly be back on track (pitching/baseball can be so frustrating sometimes, the smallest things can effect your performance, it's crazy). We have one 9 inning game today, and I will be in relief, I will get 2 or 3 innings in. Hopefully I can get my head out of my ass and throw correctly! We head back to Iowa tomorrow morning. Starting tomorrow, my updates will be back to normal, more detailed, and consistant.

There was one kid there that ran a 14 minute 3 mile... FREAKIN SICK!!! I loved it until my sophomore year. Our freshman coach got fired for possession of drugs (but he was frikken awsome!) We got a new coach and he made us run 10-15 miles per day, he didnt make it fun, it was bull ****, so i just quit. I feel running should be more about having fun, enjoying your self, and clearing your mind, more so than a boot camp. cc is definetly a mind game, seeing how far you can mentally push your self and pain you can persevere through. (the girls were definetly a plus!)

I used to hate when we let opportunities slip by.

March 18 Day 18

we lost our last 9 inning game, but I got to throw a couple innings. Arm felt great, although I still have some kinks to work out. Ran 4.5 miles before we left yesterday morning, everything felt great besides my right shin, it was a little sore. Other than than the run went great, and i felt great. I arrived back home last night, and decided to get a quick workout in.

Diet and Supps

Ate on the fly all this week. Tried the best I could to keep It clean, but I had eat something! Im back on track this week though.

Thoughts
Arm felt alot better during our last nine inning game. Im finally starting to piece everything together. Our lifting coach didnt make our new sheet yet, so I just did last wednesdays workout, and added 10 pounds to conventional dead lift. Easily lifted 350 without chalk. Although the workout went well, I did feel a little fatigued. That is probably due to the fact we played 10 games in 6 days, and being outside in the sun for long periods of time. On an off note I have gotten alot of sleep the last couple nights. One of the nights i laid down for a nap around 5 pm and woke up at 9 pm and just decided to sleep the rest of night, it was awsome! So I got 13 hours of much needed sleep. Despite sleeping 13 hours the previous night, the next night I slept 10 hours! Anyways, we have baseball practice today, probably just standard conditioning to loosen our arms up. I'll update later tonight with how it went. Still not sure if i'll be lifting tomorrow, it all depends on our schedule this weekend.

Strength: 9/10
slowly deadlifting more and more!
Endurance: 7/10
A little fatigue, but that is expected
Performance:

Mood 8/10
Pretty long day between connecting flights, buses, and cars. Im just glad to be back
Overall feeling of the day: 8/10
weights keep going up, glad to be home!

13 hours of sleep. Man that would be nice. You wake up feeling refreshed or groggy?

Woke up at 5 am and felt like a million bucks! But I have a feeling I wont be getting as much sleep since im back at school, between homework, practice, games, school, lifting, and having a social life.

Nice deadlift numbers, wish I could get them that high. Are you noticing any differnces in your pitching? Like added velocity or anthing like that?

Is your shin sore from all of that running you have been doing?

At the moment im having difficulty with my arm slot, so still trying to sort that all out. But my arm does feel good, and i would say it does feel like it has increased from the beginning of the year. I was at 87 towards the middle of last season. I figured out today what my deal is, and my fastball is moving alot more, and my curve ball is just discusting, so im slowly realizing what's going on. Once everything is going smooth, I will be able to better assess how cre-02 and cordygen5 are contributing to my pitching performance. My shin is sore from the 7.5 mile run, it's been awhile since i've run long distance. But today for our pitcher workout we easily ran 3-4 miles and i had no shin pain/soreness at all.

I would hate it when at cc practice my moronic coach would have us running on a road or sidewalk or just any hard surface. My shins would feel like they were about to explode after practice. Running on soft ground is just so much easier...

Thoughts
Just had the typical conditioning practice today. Finally figured out what is going on with my pitching, I wasnt staying "long" and reaching back, so like i said yesterday everything is moving ALOT more/more accurate. I was a little fatigued, but still blasted through my pitcher workout pretty easily. Im taking lifting off today due to the fact I am in relief the next 2 days, so the last thing I want is to be sore. I will lift on sunday and possibly monday depending on our schedule.

We have one 9 inning game tonight and a double header on saturday.

Pumped for the game

I do notice as of late that I can push myself a little further than usual. When I workout or run I feel I am going longer and stronger. Also after my workouts or pitching outings im not nearly as sore the next day, must be helping kick out the lactic acid in my arm.

I'll update later tonight or tomorrow with how the game went tonight

hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates. I was going to update the last couple days last night, but my internet was down. Im hitting the gym this morning, then I have a bull pen later today. I'll for sure update tonight

March 22, Day 22

Day 20 and 21
Had 3 games, one 9 inning game on day 20 and 2 on day 21. Won the series 2/3. We beat the best team in conference so as of now we are the best team in our conference. There wasnt any need for relief, our starting pitching did very well.

The Workout

30 minute run at speed 6.5-8. I felt awsome and felt I could run forever. I kept on getting 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. winds, and it was a great feeling. It was quite refreshing to run. Definetly had an increase in VO2 max and never felt winded. Right after I was done I decided to get a lift in, since it was one of my only off days from baseball

My appeitite has been down as of late. I think it may be due to the fact for the last month of games, I go with little food for 5-6 hours. So my body is getting used to not pounding as much food down. I weighed myself and im still around the same weight 199.2, but I have increased definition.

Thoughts

Great workout today. I felt like I could run forever. A definite increase in endurance. The weights felt light as well. Early In the year, front squat was hard at around that weight, now I bust a set out without stopping, strength is increasing.
