Volcom's Optimus PRIME Log

Texas. Pfft. And one more time: Pfft. Now, Alberta Beef is legendary.

In Medicine Hat, AB [my hometown] there is this well-established pub-and-eatery that is known for its massive portions. Well, even when I was 155-165 I had an absolutely ridiculous appetite. My friend Legz who was a competitive bodybuilder would get furious that I would out eat him [due in part to Marijuana]. Anyway, he and I went there one time and I ordered the 64oz steak, but a different waitress brought out our order [this was before I began lifting weights]. Of course, the waitress whom brought our orders out took one look at me, one look at Legz, and propped the 64oz directly in front of him. So, right away i say, "Hey, that's my steak!" and proceed to get into a five-minute long discussion with half of the wait staff about my ability to eat the steak. Nobody believed I could eat it, and even the cook came out to challenge me! Anyway, you should have seen the look on these people's faces when I not only ate the whole 64oz steak but Legs' side of fries!

I actually went back there again another time and ate a whole five-person party platter. That is another story, though.

All this talk of giant steaks... good thing I put the trough back on in 34 min.

Has anyone here tried a Kobe Steak? I never have and I hear Kobe steak is the Excalibur of steaks.

Nope. I think you should get one and post a review of it.

It depends if you actually have the Japanese Kobe or American "Kobe"... The real deal Japanese stuff actually kind of sickened me... It was so buttery and fatty that it was more like fois gras than steak.

Hey Volcom, do you know anything about the NASM certification? Been thinking about doing one of these to work part-time at a NY gym... Not really for money, but for sh*ts and giggles - and in case Wall Street goes (more) belly up.

Of course I'm going to be bias toward all NSCA certifications, but the NASM will suffice just fine in getting personal training work. One of the trainers at my gym has an NASM, I'm not sure how much you need to know beyond basic Anatomy, common lifting sense and some basic nutrition. You already know how to work out and what exercises do what to stimulate what muscles, I'd just polish up on major muscle groups. I doubt they'll have questions on how to develop your tensor fascia latae.

No one i know with anything other then an NSCA certification had any academic training on anatomy & physiology.

P.S. I'm not slamming other certs, I think the NSCA requires the most head knowledge, but head knowledge does not necessarily make you a good trainer. Just like the smartest teachers don't necessarily make the best teachers. Charisma, sociability, communication skills, passion, independent thinking and creativity play a larger role. I know plenty 'O Kine majors who are simply too docile and soft spoken to be an effective trainer, all the aforementioned characteristics have to be exaggerated when working with athletes.

You might as well go for it. You could always ask me or anyone else here for clarification on anything.

I had no idea the Canadians were massive steak consumers. Imagine that, all those years of my severe bigotry toward Canadians were all for not.

1st Meal: All spinach, chicken breast salad.

2nd Meal: All spinach, turkey & ham salad (double meat).

3rd Meal: Chinese Broccoli, small portion of mushroom beef (fatty), shrimp, baby squid, white cod & scallops. Snag style.

as soon as funds permit, aka when i get a job, ill be taking the NSCA-CPT exam. thats big money to take the exam. i bought a book written by some big names in the NSCA, so i will basically use that to prepare for the exam.

book is called "strength training" by lee brown

I took my Principles of Strength & Conditioning class with Dr. Lee Brown. That guy is a trip, very non PC. He's the first person I told when I passed my CSCS exams.

I also participated in a Deadlift Power and vertical jump correlation study with him.

Im gonna start saving up for my upcoming log. lol. 1 man 50 cows.
Sounds like a beastiality orgy!! :naughty::scool:
That would translate into either 50 happy cows or 1 very tired man!! :D

I normally get a Grilled Chicken Philly at the sub-shop when I go, but with all this talk of beef, I ended up getting the original Philly Cheesesteak (beef) yesterday. Yesterday was such a glorious refeed...I'm paying for it this morning, though. - It's been about a month since I went off my diet at all.

Yesterday's Activities
AM Fasted Lift

PM HIIT and I went for a 3 mile walk, just because, I don't know.

TODAY

I'm 207.2lbs today. I seem to be dipping real slowly, a bit slower then I'd like, but I hear that's a good thing.

I noticed Snag likes to stick with the same weight throughout the set and keep the reps relatively high, since I'm in a cut, I'm not consuming the calories needed to feed growth, so my lifts are almost at a maintenance level. I decided to focus on one thing or the other. I have two bottles of T-911 for after my cut, when I can get more focused and intense on my ilfts again.

Fasted AM Lift: Back

Hammer, High Lat Pull - Undergrip
180lbs x 15 reps, x 12 reps, 10 reps, 9 reps

Hammer, High Lat Pull - Neutral
230lbs x 10 reps, x 10 reps, x 10 reps, x 10 reps

Hammer, Low Lat Pull - Neutral
180lbs x 10 reps, x 10 reps, x 10 reps

1st Meal: All spinach salad, two chicken breasts.

All the talk of beef on my thread had me wanting to make this a steak salad, but I stuck with the chicken breastessess.

I pretty much keep the weight the same. I like to stick in the 12-19 range on my hypertrophy sets, so whatever that takes. I may change it by 5-10lbs, but not much more than that.

Don't be upset that you're dropping weight slowly. That's a GOOD thing. I'd shoot for about 5lbs/month.

Volc, are bean sprouts healthy? I bought some to add in my stir-fry tonight. (Chicken, Scallops, Broccoli, Edamame, Bean Sprouts)
Anything sprouted is very healthy; I used to sprount my own mung beans (Bean Sprouts) along with Wheat Berries, Broccoli Seeds, Alfalfa, lots of other. It's actually quite easy to do, although there are sprouting kits that make it easier. If this interests you at all, one of the best sites out there is Invalid Link Removed . From what I remember on the packaging though, they don't have too much fiber left (the outside shell comes off on the mung beans). Sprouted wheat berries are my favourite, they actually become sweet!

These are some sprouted wheat berries, and then them in a lovely bean/veggie salad.

Nice, SteveO -- eating like a champ!

Steveo always surprises me with things up his sleeve.

This is day two of my milk cow diet, Snag. My prime source of carbs have come from spinach and my protein is kicked way up.

How do you conduct your rests during a cut? I've been doing double, triple and quadruple sessions since Saturday, but I feel guilty not burning kcals. I'm EXTREMELY OCD about my cardio when I'm in a "dedicated" cut.

I feel ya man. So, what kind of rests are you referring to - between working sets, or actual rest days?

Don't be. Your fasted weight sessions are pretty killer for fat-loss. I cut my cardio back to only two sessions (from six) a week and I'm noticing fat drop off at a rather quick rate.

Then I should do more with them. Really focus on getting the most out of that fasted AM as I can.

Do regular stores like GNC or other privately owned supp shops carry AP? Is AP common now? I think I may give into the fasted AM with some AP, but I don't want to wait a week for shipping.

Rest days, I have a tendency to over-train (over-cardio/over-general activity) when I'm cutting, which was why I was so intrigued by an anti cort approach.

Of course if GNC were to sell AP, it'd probably cost like $85

$62.99 I believe.. but, I guess if you picked up Pslin along with it, $83 for the two don't look all that bad to online pricing..

EDIT: I'm assuming you saw the BOGO 50% off all sports supps GNC is running this month, posted in my thread.

With your activity levels, I would completely rest every 4th day or so.. down time is important too man.
On non-activity day, drop into that milk-cow diet of yours.. :stick:

Anabolic Pumped

I did it, I finally gave into Mullet's Canadi Mind Tricks and got me some AP. I am now an official member of the FTAA, Fasted Training Association of Associates. Question, as a bottle carrying member, am I required to be able to recite the Canadian National Anthem and/or have the Canadian National Anthem on my mp3 player at least twice?

I'm actually pretty excited. Maybe I'll start feeling a little better about my fasted workouts DF style. My AM arsenal of supps are pretty gangster at the moment, but it's all there to maximize the fat oxidation as perpetuated by the fasted AM lift or run.

1. Anabolic Pump
2. Leviathan Reloaded + 7mg Y HCL (for the added morning kick in the arse that LR alone doesn't provide parami)
3. TTA-500
4. 1000mg ALCAR
5. Lean Xtreme (oh snap, even got that AM cort in check)

So anyway, hooray for the FT train :hump: I'm finally, "officially" on board (like a Laker fan during play offs).

youre gonna like the fasted training. fasted training armed with AP, BCAAs, and a smooth stim make for a truly mind bottling workout.

did you just say bottling?

yeah you know when your thoughts get all caught up, like in a bottle?

(i hope someone catches the quote)
