ANy new PS3 owners?

Sh!t I wish more of you doodz had PCs....love multiplayer on-line games. I heard GTA4 is just nuts-o! So hilarious.

If anyone has a PC and plays online shootem' ups, hit me up! I have Crysis, Battlefield 1942 (DC mod), Team Fortress 2.

I used to game a lot more before my little boy came along. I still play Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, and Crysis.

I've only played Crysis online once.

I did! :D My brother is a programmer and will not leave me alone.

This is all true, but: I do not think the PS3 will ever reach full capacity. Coding the data in the segmented manner necessary to utilize all, or even most, of PS3's cores for gaming applications is almost impossible. PS3's processors are apt for mechanistic data that can be passed from SPE to SPE - seeing as each aside from the main processor may only access 256kb memory. This essentially means coding multi-thread data piece-by-piece. On the other hand, the devotion of the Xenos' to gaming means that 'chunk' data can be processed on a single thread, but be devoted to physics, rendering and so forth with more dedicated memory to gaming!

However, I have heard rumblings that the Open GL system is easier to write on than first thought.

..yeah- that's the argument (one of two) that I was trying to remember..

How it was explained to me was (and I really should try to find the demonstration I am thinking of) was,.. well, however it was explained to me came down to either took 3 and multiplied it by 2, or 2 multiplied by 3; you get the same result. Its what you do with the result from there..

dedicated pipelines vs. non-dedicated. (Taking the highway or the byway basiclly)

It comes down to pipelines; the 360 has eh,.. here lol

I was talking to the guy at the game stop near my house, and i thought he had said it was the original xbox games that were no longer going to be accepted beacause nobody was buying them. I think this is the last month you can, however.

lol- that may be the case too.
I could be mistaken though; I didn't have any reason to pay attention to the sign more then a passing glance.
But the shelves were litterally overstocked, and piles on the floor!

That is true! However, the argument I was making above is more like: Can Sony make 5 where XBOX 360 can in a gaming specific context? As I said, apparently the Open GL system is not as difficult to code as previously thought; and the difficulties between passing DMA'd data from SPE to SPE may not be that difficult either; but, difficulty is most definitely a relative term! Relative to the XBOX 360's coding, rendering and physics [again, thinking just about games here] it is most definitely difficult!

Essentially, and I as I was saying above, the PS3 is a superior machine, strictly technically speaking, in every way imaginable; however, the efficiency of the XBOX 360 makes it the superior gaming console - which, after all, is probably why you bought it! At this point, in my opinion at least, it is undeniable that the XBOX 360 is bound to produce the best games, and the most diverse, varied, and rich games.

Ok so I have a question. The 360 I got the kids was the basic one. I see I can get the hardrive for $20 for it on their site. But how does the online thing work, and is it worth it or dangerous for kids. They are all inder 11yrs old.

I'm not sure I would let young'ens play online. They are right when they say ESRB ratings don't apply to online play.

I still do not see quantitive evidence that gaming is better on an xbox. I have seen no evidence the xbox renders better or it's physics engine is any different output wise.

You just say the xbox is a superior gaming platform. Now, while it may be, -eh,.. like the video mentioned; xbox splits two chips, and borrows from the other when more is needed. The ps3 has many dedicated processors; each at 256. Apparently it does not have the ability to borrow from another.

So you can have an overflow lag on the chip xbox borrows from (assuming full capacity) , or an overflow lag on one chip with no extra process of having to borrow from in the ps3.
Same lag none the less; and there isn't anyone who can provide REAL data on what that translates into; as other system components are involved in the entire process.
Its a crayfish / crawfish argument. Both do the same job, just in different way.
When that is placed aside, your left with everything else.

when you have that much horsepower under the hood, you can easily geterdone:fing02: ..we don't NEED no stinkin efficiency :jester:

...just looking at the two side by side, I prefer gaming on the ps3 over the xbox -strictly personal opinion though, basic on how things look and smoothness of play.

(lol- why must I always post from the toilet :sad6:)

I wouldn't recommend online gaming for that age group, christine. It's quite vulgar at times in certain games.

I know my wife gets pissed when i'm swearing at the tv during a game, lol. ;)

Not better, per se; however, never said that, though. I said the 360 is more efficient, because it is! I do not think that is really deniable. The XBOX 360 renders its games just as well with less capacity - i.e., it is more efficient.

You just say the xbox is a superior gaming platform. Now, while it may be, -eh,.. like the video mentioned

I would say so. Higher selection of quality games; more comprehensive online content and gameplan; and rendering just as good. It is obvious that, however easier developers are realizing the PS3 to be compared to initial expectations, development is relegated to only the larger development houses - this means less new titles, and only sequels [this is being shown as of now].

xbox splits two chips, and borrows from the other when more is needed. The ps3 has many dedicated processors; each at 256. Apparently it does not have the ability to borrow from another.

We need to understand how they are dedicated, though! PS3s processors are meant for mechanistic computations, and therefore simplistic data - hence the 265kb [not MB] capacity on the 6 specialized SPEs. There is one general output PPE that splits 512mb between the OS and gaming applications [one of the additional seven contributes to the OS]. In terms of memory access, the SPEs cannot share memory, that is correct. What does this amount to? This means, as they cannot share memory, that rendering, physics and so forth must be computed piece by piece and 'passed through' each SPE. So, the developer must code data in 256kb segments! As I said, having 8 horses where 7 do nothing is not horsepower!

So you can have an overflow lag on the chip xbox borrows from (assuming full capacity) , or an overflow lag on one chip with no extra process of having to borrow from in the ps3.Same lag none the less; and there isn't anyone who can provide REAL data on what that translates into; as other system components are involved in the entire process.

I suppose. I still disagree [see above].

when you have that much horsepower under the hood, you can easily geterdone:fing02: ..we don't NEED no stinkin efficiency :jester:

Again though, it is not apples to apples. It is like having 8 horses: 1 to pull your cart at any given time, and the other 7 to sit around eat grass. Not exactly horsepower, lol.

360 is better!!!!!!! lol j/k hopefully i can get a ps3 sometime in the future,...gotta play MGS.

Also i saw an advy that said killzone was coming to xbox 360 as well,........ although it was supposed to be ps3 only.

BTW ,........ Crysis RULES!:head:

Well- I give xbox efficiency then.

Also, the original platform coded for plays a large part.
Resistence, for example, as made for ps3, runs flawlessly. It has been coded for the ps3 process.
It would not run the same on an xbox.
A xbox game would not run the same being converted to ps3.

.but thats just the way things work.

I am jealous of the volume of games the box has.

That being said; I might a wii this weekend, we a online AM.com boxing competition would be fun:yup:

or a AM killzone deathmatch..

BRING IT

So there are no online games suitable for kids? Or a way to see that they play with their own age group? I have never had a gaming system that you could go online so I have no clue how it even works.

When it comes out next month, i'm in. :D

The screenshots and videos are cream-in-pants worthy. Best-looking console game of this generation, IMO.

I bought a ps3 i also have xbox 360. I would also be interested in a killzone 2 am multiplayer. They are both excellent systems and have their unique features.

PS3 exclusive.

Which game? I think the graphics are slightly better on the PS3. Like you said, it isn't as efficient as the 360, along with the fact that a lot of developers are programming for the 360. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony (Playstation) turns out to be the next Sega.

Oh I think they are too, but it ultimately boils down to a lot of unusable capacity that translates to only a slight edge in terms of rendering. Killzone 2 was the game I was talking about, though.

BTW, The Dreamcast is still my favorite console of all time. Its graphics were far beyond XBOX and/or PS2. I was so sad it went under and wish I would have kept it.

...I got one for xmas and picked up Resistance.. played through that and then Resistance 2... After finding out that I can play online, I ...can't ...quit.:nono:

So any of ya'll here have the same problem? ...who can I snipe in a 60 person deathmatch?

dude ps3 got free online play and ionternet setup just hook that bitch up to wifi and your all good change the setting on the connection list,

dreamcast was awesome. Friend of mine had all the games downloaded and burned,... i think he only bought one game for it..... ever, lol.

For sure. I loved that thing. Whenever mine would freeze and make the buzzsaw noise, my friend would say, "It's thinking". Haha.
