Virile Mane - Hair anyone?

I personally think the thickness is perfect as is - i believe it makes it very easy to work with and apply completely.

btw - i have the bottles that have the preproduction labels - i dont know if anything has changed from then to the current production.

I agree completely. Please don't mess with it. I like the "grabbing" effect it has when it has been completely rubbed in.

I don't know how practical it would be, but there could possibly be two versions--the original (for us that think it's perfect), and a thinner version for the others.

I'm about 6 weeks into a combined Virile Mane/Noxidant run, and I've started to notice positive results. The first 4 or so weeks was kind of rough, as I experienced a lot of shedding, and my hair looked even thinner than it already did previously. However, a few days ago, I noticed that my entire scalp is now covered with very fine, short hairs which I did not notice before. At this stage they are difficult to see, without viewing at an appropriate angle, but they are definitely there, and judging by how fine they are I do suspect that it is new growth that I am seeing.

I suffer from diffuse thinning, and have been covering my entire scalp and temple regions twice daily. I work shift work, so haven't been able to always apply a few hours before bed, but do make sure I apply shortly after awakening and after I shower as well.
 
I am using one of the earliest batches of Virile Mane and I am completely satisfied with the consistency. Nice to distribute without any risk of dripping.
 
I like the consistency as it is currently. It makes the amount of product I'm using easier to measure and apply than other products I've used which are thinner...

This was my main concern - compared to Minox, which made an incredible mess.

Knowing that the compounds had the capacity to stain if spilled onto shirts or pillow, I made it thick enough NOT to run.

I might try to look at doing a thinner version, as suggested, for those with large areas to cover - but I will go ahead and leave the consistency as-is.

I'm covering as large an area as is likely to be needed in anyone (entire top of my head), and I have absolutely no issues with the current thickness of the product.

I'm a little late, but I would definitely prefer a THINNER product. Something a tad more watery, between the consistency of minoxidil and the first batch of VM, would be great. I have a very short buzzcut (no. 1) and would still see a thinner product as an improvement; I can't imagine how guys with longer hair can apply the current product at all.
 
I think what I'll end up doing is offering a thinner version as a custom, probably direct from the new site.

This will allow me to have smaller batches made, and keep the thicker product as the flagship standard version.
 
I have been using vm twice a day religously for 1 month..

I am still shedding just as much.. My recession is moving back just the same and my front is still thinning out pretty bad. I have been checking my hairline VERY closely for any signs of progress and I cannot see anything at all.. I would have really hoped to see at least some small iota of progress by now..

I use two small half pea sized dots for in front of the hairline. I then use two thin strips with my hair parted in two places for the left side, one thin strip for the middle, and then two thin strips with my hair parted twice for the right.. I try to rub it in as best as possible..
 
My two month update is not good. Early on, I loved how healthy my hair was looking, and I thought my shedding had stopped, but it has increased bigtime. The thinning spot on my crown has expanded, and it is freaking me out. Dsade, should I be worried, or is the increase in shedding a good sign at almost 9 weeks in? I will add the Vitamin D, since I'm getting no real sun exposure, but I'm taking VM, antioxidents and the shampoo. Its so hard to be patient when you see strands of hair comming off at such a alarming rate. Like i said if this stuff works, you will be my hero. I will stick with it for at least 6 months, as I did with the worthless Rogain.

9 weeks does seem a bit late into this to have a sudden increase in shedding. Are you able to get some help to check the spot for signs of new growth?

I will start having someone check it, as it is hard to really see your crown with a mirror. Like I said, I'm in it for the long haul.

As a matter of fact, I didn't even realize my crown was thinning until my wife was kind enough to point it out. :(

so are you saying you are shedding more since you are on virile? Or you think its just not working?

i apologize if i hurt your feelings - that was not my intention. I will agree that it is still relatively early for me on VM, but that was my update at the time and unfortunately, things have not improved. I still am developing pimples on my scalp, continued thinning, itching, and no sins of thickening or regrowth at close daily inspection.

I dnt doubt that you have put time and effort into the product, and that some people are indeed seeing results, but i am not. i will be the first to report otherwise should the results change. Also, early on, you should note that i posted a recommendation or two on bb for people to try VM.

I don't know how you feel about the tea tree oil and male issue. But I used the shampoo and had itching. I seemed to have some reaction to something in it. My hairdresser had me start using a tea tree oil conditioner and it stopped. Now grant you I don't have to worry about the estrogenic issues. Just a thought, random as it is!
 
We take no offense over peoples experiences as not all people are alike. I have used a supp from another company that made me sick as hell. Wanted to die on it!! But others have responded very well to it. Ehh just something I can't benefit from.
 
i read the posts, but there was no answer to the particular question i had.

wouldnt adding alcohol to VM make it absorb better?

Not necessarily.

Acohol would thin the product, but is also irritating - especially to scalp tissue. It dries out the stratum corneum, hardening the horny layer of skin.

Alcohol was kept to a minimum necessary to act as a solvent for the actives without irritating scalp.

Yes, I am noticing better resuts using twice a day.

The only negative is that it's harder in the morning to apply carefully enough to be able to style my hair cleanly.
 
i am curious how many other people notice this:

if you take a napkin or some toilet paper and run it across the scalp hours after application, do you also notice brown residue on the napkin?

i rub in my VM very well, but continually notice leftover residue....i brought this up once but would appreciate some more input....

maybe those people with the same problem as me are not getting sufficient absorption, and therefore, lesser results?

I applied this morning at 9:30. 2:50 I just rubbed a white paper towel over my scalp. Other than some dirt (gross) there is nothing brownish at all.

I would say this is a sign you are using too much product. Too much WILL hinder absorption.

We left the water low for a reason, having to do with degradation of the polyphenol content.

I'll wait for someone else, than.

I don't have any issues of non-absorption or residue (unless I miss running in a glob, which I have of late....and nobody tells me until I happen to be looking closely in the mirror.)
 
I'm using quite a bit of the product on the temples. Just tried the 'white paper test' and no brown showed up. Quite surprised, actually, since I would expect for there to be some residue given how liberally I'm applying it. I should note that after applying VM I rub it in for at least one minute, so maybe that helps absorption...
 
I've been using it for 5 weeks now. No residue, no pimples. Absorbs quite nicely. I'm getting some new hairs along the hairline and just in front of it. I'm just applying it along the hairline and the bare temples.
 
I posted about the "brown residue" a while back. Since others are talking about it now, I thought I'd expand my comments.

I've been very careful to use a limited amount (less, apparently, than some) and to rub it in until 'friction' replaces 'glide'. I have no doubt that the product is thoroughly rubbed in, as NO residue remains on my scalp.

My hair, as said before, is mostly WHITE. This is how I came to notice the brown residue. If I rub a cloth/whatever over my scalp a few hours after application, it comes away brown - and my hair no longer looks like it has "brown stuff on it".

I know it's being absorbed, as I'm getting quite noticeable results (sorry about no pics: live alone); to reduce the amount "caught" by my hair, I have cropped it considerably closer (.33-.25x previous) - and I rub my HAIR - not my scalp - before I go out.

IMO, a non-issue, product-wise.

good post, I was going to suggest that the residue would be off the hair. I too have diffuse type thinning and it is impossible not to get a generous amount on your hair instead of your scalp. Just the way it is...

Scalp wise i don't get any residue at all however.

Crader.. just for the record i've been using a tea tree conditioner for overa year and haven't turned into a woman. I think the tea tree issue is overplayed personally, the only cases i've ever seen related to it manifesting estrogenic effects were with two pre-pubertal boys iirc.
 
Been on VM for just over a month now, (started on the 12th of December), and although I don't want to jinx it, I think I'm seeing signs of progress. I have been mainly concentrating my observations on my temples for signs it is working as these are the areas any growth is easier to see, and I think I can say that they seem more hairy than before VM!

I dont know whether this is because VM has kick started the existing hairs I had on my temples (very small vellus hairs) into growing bigger, or promoted regrowth of follicles even more dormant, or a combination of both, but they definitely seem more hairy and it is easier to observe the hair on the temples. I base this on the fact that before I had to get the light just right and angle etc, however it seems much easier to make out the hairs now. I did shave my hair right down just a bit before the new year, so I know that can have deceptive effects on how your hair appears, but even so I really do think I'm seeing regrowth already with VM.

Still got a LOT left of my first bottle and it's already been a month, easy to apply on my temples and hairline, though a bit more difficult anywhere else in your hair, especially on the crown. I find in these areas other than your hairline and temples, the amount I use, I either cant feel it on my scalp which makes me paranoid it hasn't reached it OR I splurge way too much, it's difficult to judge the application of VM there. Will be updating at 2 months with hopefully further regrowth.

Just a quick question to dsade, I noticed you mentioned water degrading the polyphenol content in VM, I gave the VM applicator nose a quick wash the other day (it was all screwed up tightly), do you think any water could have gotten in? Is it totally water tight? TIA.

A very small amount of water won't matter. There is already around 10% water content - just enough to dissolve the actives. The screw-top dispenser cap is completely watertight.

Good to hear on your growth - I feel the same way, not wanting to jinx things.
 
dsade..first off..its been 1 month and 4 days since i started using VM..i do believe io'm seeing some results..i've been using nanominox fms for about 10 months..i dont think that the results i think i'm seeing are from that because i believe i have topped out w/the nano..it halted shedding and created some slight regrowth..its a great product for those in the early stages..
i've using lasers for approx. 2months so i cant truly say that its the VM because right around now would be about when i would start seeing some sort of results from my laser usage..so whether its the VM or lasers i cant say..but in my opinion i think VM is helping and i will continue to use it..i took some pics (top) view now all have to do is make sure they are the same angle, height and lighting as my before..the before is from 2 months ago at the start of laser treatment..but from what i can recall from memory the recent definitely looks better than the before..

i have 2 questions i hope you could answer for me..
1. i ordered some dymatize protein and jacked from nutraplanet and with my order i recieved some samples..one producty is Alpha Drive from ALRI do you think that this product would be detrimental to my hair? thats one of the reasons i never used things like Superdrol (i think that was the product that was suppose to be amazing) or Halodrol etc..

2. my girlfriend is think about competing in her first fitness competition..would you be able to point us to some that will be taking place in the New york, New Jersey or connecticut area? could you also point us to some training and dieting info?

like i stated this would be her first..she doesnt have much training but i'm going to get her on a muscle building program for the next 3-4 months then we'd like to get started on contest prep, so i guess we're looking at contest ready for around september..

Sorry...slammed here.

I just ended an extended 1-test/4-AD cycle, while using Virile Mane. Normally, other than methyl-1-test, there isn't anything that strips hair off quicker than 1-test, however not only did I NOT lose hair, but the photo log shows the new growth. With weaker hormonals, I don't think you will have any problems at all.

Regarding local contests, I wish I could help you. I'm not familiar with anywhere you can check to find any of them. Perhaps someone else can help here?

1. i ordered some dymatize protein and jacked from nutraplanet and with my order i recieved some samples..one producty is Alpha Drive from ALRI do you think that this product would be detrimental to my hair? thats one of the reasons i never used things like Superdrol (i think that was the product that was suppose to be amazing) or Halodrol etc..

2. my girlfriend is think about competing in her first fitness competition..would you be able to point us to some that will be taking place in the New york, New Jersey or connecticut area? could you also point us to some training and dieting info?

like i stated this would be her first..she doesnt have much training but i'm going to get her on a muscle building program for the next 3-4 months then we'd like to get started on contest prep, so i guess we're looking at contest ready for around september..

dsade, as I reported before, I'm very concerned about the amount of sheding 9 weeks in, and I was wondering if you have any advice. There is no new growth, and the area of balding on my crown has expanded. It by far worse than before I started your product. Is it suposed to get much worse with the sheding, and then grow new hairs? I don't want to give up, but I'm getting very depressed about this.Sorry for the negative report, I just don't knoiw what I'm going to do. One of my worst nightmares is comming true, I'm going bald. And yes, I have had someone check it for me, and they agree that it is getting worse. I know with most of these products they say it takes several months to work, so I don't want to quit now, but I did not think I would shed this much hair. I can run my hand through my hair and get a couple of long strands of hair almost everytime.

I am in a similar situation. No improvement since start just more diffuse thinning and the area on my crown got wider as well. . its been around 6-7 weeks for me.
 
If you guys have hairloss, Propecia really is the best answer and it will stop your hairloss, thicken up your existing hair, and you might even get some regrowth too.


When it comes to hairloss dont play around. Stick with the proven treatments first, then everything else second for added support.

And just ignore the miserable side effects. If you are willing, then it would cover one simple angle of regrowth, yes.
