Long overdue promotion

Rodja

Board Sponsor
I finally officially got my blue-belt in BJJ on Saturday. I went to a seminar in Houston run by Travis Tooke (who is a BB under Carlos Gracie Jr at the age of 24) and got my promotion even though I was still battling a hangover and my hand was in a ton a pain. It was also the first time I have ever worn a gi for BJJ. I am going to start dabbling in the gi game and continue to work my way up the ladder. I may not make it to the big leagues in MMA, but I have the rest of my life to attain a BB.

Congratulation man! btw, didn't you mention an upcoming fight in Jan or Feb?

Congratulations.

Good job, I'm still trying to get my blue belt. That is a great achievement how long have you been training?

A little over 2 years. I really should have gotten this over a year ago, but I haven't trained with any BBs nor have I worn a gi. I can tap/control most purple belts that I have trained with and I haven't worked on my ground game much since 07 because I have been focusing on my stand-up.

Good stuff. Yeah it is so hard to chase belts when you are focusing on MMA because there is so much else to it and teh people who are there just for jiu jitsu get to dedicate all their time to one thing, I really feel you on that part.

When I first started, I trained BJJ 3-5x/wk because I loved it so much, but my game became very unbalanced as a result. Subsequently, I have put minimal effort into advancing my game until recently.
