look for PENN STATE to stare into the top 10...they should be @ 13 or12 after stompin cuse'.:hammer:

Easy killer... Penn State is #16 in the AP poll and #15 in the coaches' poll. BECAUSE they played Syracuse while South Florida, East Carolina, Oregon, and even BYU have been busy playing more quality opponents, they were leapfrogged. In fact, Ohio State is ranked ahead of PSU in both polls! Hey, at least they tried to play USC.

Strength of schedule matters. It's okay to have a few patsies on the schedule before conference play, but don't look to be rewarded for it. I'll sing Joe Pa's praises all day, but I'm wondering if he has any input as to who they schedule. When Penn State joined the Big Ten, they dropped the series with Alabama. I'd like to see that renewed in the future. Winner gets the "Best Uniform" title for that year!

yeah..they both have awsome "oldschool" esque uniforms. as far as PSU goes they have the best offense i seen since the days of m-rob. 2005 season when they finished #2 in country.

Miami started 13 seniors and juniors vs. Florida. Florida started 12 sophomores. Florida is the only team in the SEC with no senior starters on defense. Miami started 4 seniors on defense and eight of its 22 starters were seniors. A lot of people want to attribute the win to our experience, but the truth is that Florida is a younger team than Miami.

Agree - our best players aren't seniors though. The DC seems to be bringing the frosh along slowly making them back-ups for now.

Our best LB is Sean Spence - he's backing up at WILL.

:goodpost:That's a solid point. And what's with all this Miami talk? They've won 2 out of their last 9 games. They're almost irrelevant at this point. The other day, someone asked me what I thought about Miami.

I replied, "I don't."

Because I started the first CFB discussion thread in '05, brah.

Legend has it my boys from Tampa will start scheduling UM next year. Gonna be a fun game to watch, no doubt!

Yup - Miami at USF in '09. Return trip in '10. I think it might even go longer than that.

I'm gonna try to make it to Tampa for next year's game.

I was wondering where you've been. Everything ok after the hurricane?

Been working night shifts - my 8th straight night tonight. Have about a half hour till I go into work. 6pm to 6am.

Sooooooooo freaking hard to lift. And I'm eating like crap because the operators at the plant eat like crap. Ugh.

I did get last Saturday off - watched football the entire day. Man - USC is damn, damn impressive.

Really hoping I get this Saturday off - awesome slate of games. Can't wait for UF-UT at the same time as Miami-A&M.

USF starts playing (and beating) Miami in 2009. They have the next five years scheduled. Miami's already the 4th best team in their own state... but now it will be official.

We'll see.

Go ahead and doubt us. And you are retarded if you think the Nolies are better.

I hear you man. I seriously don't miss being off night shift all that much lately. I feel like i can actually function during the day now.

Good to know everything is ok. We definitely have some good CFB this weekend. The wife and i are going to watch the game at a gator bar in south tampa. It should be a good time.

USC looked damn impressive for sure. This season is going to be very interesting.

I concur with the ACC. I'm sure florida state will rise on up again in the coming years to clearly dominate the conference.

Doubt it. When Bowden dies, they'll think Jimbo will be the savior.
After watching him at LSU and then Gary Croton come in and wreck sh*t on offense - I'm not convinced Jimbo is the guy.

I think they just need to clean the entire athletic dept. out and start the hell over. They've accepted mediocrity and don't see how bad they are. They constantly think they are one player or coach away, when they haven't been dominant since 2000.

I can see what you're saying there. I agree that they have that "one player away" mentality. I also agree they probably need to overhaul their entire coaching staff and start fresh. I think with time though they'll eventually realize this. Maybe when bowden is finally gone.......

Ohio State's chances are D-O-N-E for a championship birth. I think that goes for whomever the Big 10 champ is.

Looks like it's SC, the Big 12 champ, and the SEC champ for the championship game.
But I still think we are in for a wild season.

Headed into work - will catch you some other afternoon, Traum.
Later brah.

Agreed. I really enjoyed watching OSU get thumped. Beanie wells or not, they got worked in every sense of the word. :D

Alright J, have a good night bud.

Well, I must be a high-functioning autistic. Let's see... after Miami's less-than-impressive 8-point win over FSU last year, the 'Noles have gone 5-3 with a win over then-#2 ranked Boston College. In that same time frame, The 'Canes have gone 1-5 with their only victory coming against winless... gulp... Charleston Southern.

Yeah, I'm thinking it may not be too far fetched to say that FSU is on the upswing, and Miami... well they're just Miami. But hey, they'll have a chance to prove me wrong on Oct. 4. If Miami wins, they will once again proudly wear the crown of 'third' best Florida football team. No wait... I forgot about Armwood High School. :toofunny:

All in good humor, 'brah.'

All they need is Jim Leavitt. The guy is a miracle worker.
I surely hope USF does whatever it takes to keep the guy around forever.

At this rate, there will be a shrine to him on campus...

Agreed, although Miami didnt look too bad against UF in the 1st half, they've got lots of speed but ofcourse there is 4 quarters to play so showing up for half the game dont cut it.

We've only played cream puff teams so far, but Im feeling good about the WF game. Our offense is f-in stacked this year, although we'll be short handed again for this game. If we do beat WF this weekend, we are taking the conference , not that says much these days with the current state of the ACC. Lots of youngins on defense too, but if anybody can whip a defense into shape it's Mickey Andrews!

Yeah man, I'm just talking smack. I actually hope BOTH Miami AND Florida State become powerhouses again. I think they just might. College football is way more interesting with them in the top 10. I'm a Bama fan, so it pains me to admit that! I'm just enjoying the back and forth with jmh80 and others. All in good fun though.

Yeah, yeah. I keep hearing that same ole sh*t from the Noles since '01.

"Upswing. One player away. One QB away."

Whatever.
The stench of mediocrity that Bowden allows at that program has remained.
You can't polish a turd.

We got rid of our albatross - Coker. What of the Noles? Blaming Jeff Bowden. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

And yeah - our team quit last year. Thus far this is a different team. Yeah the Gators won big. But they didn't give up like the Oklahoma game last year, when they beat us 50-10 (also the 2nd game). At least the UF game had the Gator fans I watched the game with seriously sweating with 10 mins. left in the 4th Q. The OU fans last year were leaving in the 3rd Q because they opened up such a big lead.

Fine dude. We are the worst team in the state. Meanwhile Bama got Nick Fanuzzi and we got Robert Marve last year. Where are y'all after Beatle man leaves at QB?
Take that and smoke it. ;)

Fanuzzi transferred because he was the least talented QB on the roster. Greg McElroy and Star Jackson will fit in nicely though. C'mon now... do you really think Nick Saban has a problem recruiting? Besides, he won a national championship at LSU with Matt Mauck at QB. You Florida guys concentrate too much on superstar quarterbacks and forget about the O-line and the running game. Along with a solid D, that's all a team needs to win championships.

Bottom line: Who will win a championship sooner, Saban or Shannon? In your orange and green heart of hearts, you know Saban will... and in a MUCH tougher conference.

Taken and eaten.:donut:

It's nice to see this thread liv'en up!

I watched the kansas st. vs. louisville game last night. KS has a WR that weighs 142lbs soak and wet, with a 5,7" height. His name escapes me right now, but he was actually pretty impressive. Anyone watch it?

Polishing a turd huh, dont think the Canes have any room to talk...at all. Jeff Bowden was a horrible off cord, but Ill be the 1st to admit we've been short on talent as well and not just this so called 1 player. It's hard to recruit when you've got Bowden as head coach, the kids cant even count on him being around for the 4 yrs they're at FSU, that's where Jimbo comes in, the wheels are in motion. We've been desperate for a solid QB and o-line for a long time. I'll reserve most of my **** talking for when the Noles actually beat a solid team and come down to Miami to deliver a good old fashion ass whippin. Like you guys said, all in good fun!

Oh, the sh*t talking is coming out now. Our mission is a success rubbering! :hammer: :woohoo:

Holy sh!t, I missed some fun posts :D Gotta get my popcorn for this one just like TO LOL.

I guess we'll have a good idea about FSU playing vs Wake this week. Miami did play tough against Florida and did okay considering their QB situation. Barring turnovers, the FSU vs Miami game will be decided by the better run defense.

Trauma inspired me to change my avatar, except I made mine a good team!

The LSU Vs. UF game is coming up. Gator > Tiger. ;) Let the smack talk begin.......:D

Actually where are all the UT fans at? It will be fun watching florida steam roll them again tomorrow. Last years score : 59-20. I was at that game. :D

There were one or 2 back in '05/'06 around here.

You know how people move away from the boards though. Amazing IW and I have been here this long.

I've not seen any Tennessee people on here since then though.

Yeah, i haven't really come across any on AM in my time here. I'm sure maybe there are a few, but just choose not to post in here, lol! I was really hoping to get a group of guys from each conference in here to get this thread booming.

Hopefully they'll start trickling in over time. Everyone ready for some kick azz college football tomorrow!?!

If we can get yo' boy Pat Nix to call an aggressive offensive gameplan, that statement above isn't as cut and dry as you would think.

Saban won at LSU when the rest of the SEC West wasn't as good as it is now. I know you guys all take for granted he'll win a title in the same amount of time as he did here in BR (at least the Bama people here say that).
But he's not coming to Looziana and plucking all the kids people thought he would because LSU is pretty damn good.

Look at the rest of the West - Auburn has Bama's number. They weren't that good when Saban started here. Ole Miss appears to finally have a QB for the first time since Eli. They had flashes when Eli was here.
Hell you guys were on probation when Saban started at LSU.

Miami's non-conference schedule makes up for whatever level the ACC settles at, to a point.
We play OU next year and then roll into a home and home with Ohio State. There's a K-State rolled in after with the Gator return trip in '13.
Add USF every year, an up and coming team (not a rent-a-win U).

Besides - I already made a bet with a Vol friend of mine when both Saban and Shannon were hired into their jobs as to who would ascend first. Might as well stick with that, as it was 2 years ago. ;)

Brosef - I root FOR you guys in every game except the battle. I have much respect for the Noles because you guys brought it every year for a long damn time.

I'm rooting for you guys to shed the albatross of mediocrity. Miami-Florida State should mean a legit path to the title game ever year, as was the case when I was growing up in south FLA. Not a game shown on ESPN-U because no one cares.

You guys just need to start over, IMO. I know it's painful to think about, but in the best interest long term the AD needs to be wiped clean.

I'm not sold on Jimbo. Look at LSU when they got Gary Croton as OC. Maybe Jimbo is a better head coach than OC, but I was not impressed when I watched him here in BR.

Best big game of the weekend will be LSU-Auburn, IMO.

They've always played really close the last 4 years. I look for this to be a defensive slugfest. Not sure of Brad Lester's status, but I think LSU pulls it off something like 10 to 7. Both defense's seem nasty (but haven't really been tested yet).

Agreed that's a good game there. I always look forward to the UF/UT game though. Always a good game.....well, not last year.

Hopefully i'll get up to the LSU Vs. UF game. I'm sure that game will also be worth the trip to gainseville. It's too bad though that the Lsu fans will have a LONG trip home when UF slams the door in their face.....:D

SEC games are always exciting to watch. Good weekend of football we have ahead of us.

Didn't you guys know... Tennessee fans ONLY emerge when they are winning. I am sooo not kidding about that! Bama, Miami, FSU, Penn St, and Florida fans are ALWAYS around, even when times are tough. You never see that crappy orange until the Vols have a big win. All of a sudden... they're everywhere. Then the inevitable beatdown comes at the hands of Florida, Auburn, or Alabama... and it's "crickets" once again! I'm actually glad UCLA won that game a few weeks back... or Tennessee fans would've been on here embarrassing themselves by predicting a win against the Gators. Seriously, generally speaking, Tennessee supporters are the biggest fair-weather fans in college football. I grew up in Alabama and was stationed in Tennessee for a few years... so I speak from experience.

On a related note... where are all the UCLA shirts I was seeing around the Bay Area a while back?:toofunny:

I can agree to that. It's almost like these "Rays" fans in baseball here in florida. Suddenly when they play halfway decent, they all come out of the wood work. Now keep in mind every game i've gone to at tropicana field over the last 4 years has been like a home game for boston. Now they start talking sh*t to boston fans no less. My god, it's a joke.

The bandwagon fan are pathetic and spineless, but they exist in every sport unfortunately.

Hey, I know there are plenty of unrealistic Bama fans. I never thought Saban would make a huge dent in LSU's recruiting base. However, he and Steele (picked up from from FSU) are literally cleaning house in the southern states. With the #1 recruiting class in 2008, and a 2009 class that's shaping up to be another dandy, Bama's a year or two out from being in the SEC title game. It's NEVER a given, but I think it will happen relatively soon.

I'll give you that about Miami... they will play a tough non-conference schedule. They pretty much have to in order to regain national attention. Bama jumped on the Clemson game for the same reason. I know Saban and the AD want to play a tougher non-conference schedule, but they haven't been able to work things out with teams like Penn St. in recent times. It looks like they will be playing Virginia Tech in Atlanta to start the 2009 season though.

I went to UT because Miami doesn't have chemical engineering. I still have lots of friends in Knoxville. They were pretty high on most of their team this pre-season but weren't sure about Crompton.

They are pretty down on him now and really look for another blowout by the Gators.
I had a lot of them saying they really were jealous of where Miami is relative to their Vols.
Everyone I know didn't give up on UT when they went 5-6 in '06. I just don't think they venture much away from the UT forums though, for whatever reason.

I am curious to contrast and compare both the Canes and Vols against the Gators.

Fulmer pulled a biggie out in 2001 in the Swamp when NO ONE thought he'd beat Spurrier. But he's had some high profile flame outs against the Gators when they were favored.
They really should have beaten LSU last year if not for that least INT by Erik Ainge.
I think they'll come out fired up against Florida. I just don't know if they've gotten over the huge win UF had last year. I'm not sure if they can hold the UF offense in check like Miami did. UF really took advantage of us on special teams. I'm not sure of UT's special teams as I haven't seen any of their games.

But honestly I've not heard of a UT fan predicting even a 7 point game. I've talked with quite a few of my friends (they all wanted to know how I made out with Ike and Gustav and when gas prices were going to drop - LOL).

My guess is that UT keeps it close for maybe a half and then Florida blows it open with more offensive scoring than they did against Miami.

The bandwagon fan are pathetic and spineless, but they exist in every sport unfortunately.

I don't know who has more fair weather fans amongst the big time teams in the last 10 or so years. The band wagon Florida fans just rotate around the big 3 teams (and hell maybe USF). Now everyone is a Gator fan.
(Not meaning you, Traum. But you and I both know there are more Gator fans roaming around thumping their chests than when I lived in Florida and when I was in college in the late 90's and early '00's.)

I know we have a lot of fans that don't fully support Miami when we aren't on top (I.E. going to see games or buying stuff or contributing to the athletic dept.) but are still fans.
Our contributions really seem (stress seem) to ebb and flow more than SEC/Big10/Big12 teams when we are good vs. bad. Seems like the big tradition laden state schools have a much better money flow than Miami.

I see it in our forum traffic on the Miami forum I moderate. It's HUGE on game day's when we are good, but only big when we get blown out while the team is bad.

Overall though in my view, EVERY team has it's sizable share of bandwagon/retard/whatever fans. I know everyone thinks XYZ school is the worst in football, but really.

I'm typing really long diatribes because I've just not been around much on the forums the last month. Sorry.

penn state update.....jopa warns about taking temple lightly...they may actually be our toughest competor of non conference play. next week opens conference play with illinois at bever stadium..i smell revenge..."look out juice".:aargh:

That must be a cream puff non-conference schedule if I've ever heard of it!

yeah..lol..first it was coastal carolina, then oregon state, then syracuse, and finally temple. the last time temple beat psu..jopa was a teenager. these games allow psu to test their depth in the 2nd half and rest the starters. i must say we look solid all around. we will be tested next week in the big10 opener with ill. however, i believe psu will run the table this year as long as everyone stays healthy..including Jopa.

As much as I love to slam teams for playing softies, I remember what Gene Stallings told a reporter once: "If you think playing a hopeless underdog is easy... try losing against them." (Unfortunately, Alabama fans found that out last year.)

1. I hope we wax Auburn. Any margin of victory is acceptable. My prediction: 20-13

2. I worked with habitat for humanity last spring break and we built a house in Kenneth City FL, it's sort of by St. Petersburg/Tampa. Anyhow, I remember there being bottled water there called "Zephyrhills" but I only glanced at the bottle at first and then looked away without totally reading it - For a second I thought it said "Syphilis."

I forgot where I was going with that, but Florida sux and LSU is going to leave them with a well spanked bum!

I forgot where I was going with that, but Florida sux and LSU is going to leave them with a well spanked bum!

I don't feel sorry for the absolute steam roll UF is going to give LSU this year. Remember, you're in our house. The swamp!!!!

I known quite a few collegiate FB players that played SEC FB (not for UF either), and they tell me they hated playing in the swamp.....you know why? They say the intimidation factor is vastly underestimated until you play there. Prepare to walk away heart broken with a nice reality b*tchslap! :) ;)
