I have been on HRT for a couple of yeras now and have been told that my T levels were low so started on Androderm patch 2.5 mg. Retested after several months and was told that the levels were to high (approx 1000 on the labcorp scale where 800 is top of range). The dr put me on Androgel 1% 1 pump which would equal 1.25 mg. I quit seeing thatr Dr for multiple reasons and finally convinced my family Dr to renew the script for me. The initial lab result was 380 (again on Labcorps scale) so she agreed to the Androgel at 1 pump and a followup test.
I continued to feel very exhausted, no libido, etc so I asked for a full work up...T levels, thyroid, CBC, urine, & B-12.
The T levelscame back as to high.
T serum 727 on range of 241 - 827
Free t direct 2909 on scale of 6.6 - 18.1
everything else was in range except my vit D levels which is strange since I take supp that contain Vit D.
Now she wants me to stop the gel since there isn't a smaller dose.
My primary questuion(s) are has this happened to anyone else?
What are the effects of high T levels short term and long term?
My Dr is not very familiar with andropause and wouldn't prescribe the first time I saw her which is why I had gone to another Dr. i had also gone to a Uro back the and he refused to treat since it was in the "range" even tho it was only in the 300s.
I seem to be swinging back and forth with no appreciable results.
