Tips on finding new friends

Hey guys, most of my friends and I have grown apart and are a negative influence in my life.. How do you guys find new friends that understand our lifestyle?

some of the gym dudes are dousches though we have a lot of bar lifters there that lift for the ladies and drink and are really not dedicated.. never do squats etc

it will take a while but watch other peoples routines and see if they have the same lifting schedule as you... ask them to spot you a few times.. if u go to a local supplement store find out where the guys who work there are lifting and lift with them because hopefully they understand the lifestyle since they are catering to it

Our gym is having a fitness cruise coming up in Aug. Does your gym offer something like that? That would be a cool way to get to know new people.

I think it will be fun. Its all our local Metro fitness ( World Gym) They are going to target the food for lifters and have actual classes on the boat. So you get some workouts in and the rest is just fun in the sun! I think it stops at 3 places. And its only like $275 a person.

When I go home, I go to LifeTime Fitness. Its off of Sawmill Rd.

I've lived in michigan, colorado, illinois, and now im moving to florida. And this will be my 11th school. What i've learned about making friends is that they'll come too you. Not in the way that you can stay in your room and hope somebody knocks, but if your a decent human being, and start a conversation with everyone you meet, a few will remember that and next time they see you they'll say hi, and its as simple as that.

Another tried and true method is make friends with girls, and i dont neccesarily mean ones you have a sexual interest in, but just nice girls that that you can hang out with. You show up to a bar/restaurant/bowling alley with a couple girls, i guarantee you make friends. Guys will want to know your secret, and girls will want to know why some many women like you. It's like a white flag when girls hang out with a guy, its a sign to other girls that he's safe, or gay, but mostly its a sign he's not a bad guy.

Basically go anywhere that people engage in communal activities. Volleyball, bowling, tennis, basketball, bags, whatever. You can alway ask them if you can jump in.

Good tips.

Pretty much.

Hey.....I'm married and still have a lot of friends. :)

It is tough however to remain very close with some of the single friends......especially the type that like to do nothing but party all the time. I've had to let them go, but i still have a good 'focused' group of friends that like to hang out fairly often.

I agree with putting yourself in social situations to help fascilitate the process. Things will play themselves out and you'll meet people as a result.

I'm married. I have no friends.
I'm not yet married, but since I moved back here(Louisiana in 2005)I have lost contact with my friends and really make no effort to keep in touch. I don't want to say that my girlfriend monopolizes my time, but that's a pretty accurate assessment. I enjoy her company more than anything, so I'm assuming this is not going to change then..........Hmmmmmmm..........

It's good to have friends when married though slow. Spending too much time with your wife or significant other is just as bad as not spending enough imo.

However, dealing with the wrong type of friends can certainly take a toll on the relationship. I choose my friends wisely and maturely these days.

It's very healthy in any marriage or relationship to have outside friends.

well, you dont have any kids yet either. add that in the mix, and the spare time to hang out becomes very slim. lucky if I manage to do it once every couple of months at this point, between work, family, repping and working out :)

That's very true E, but i'll always keep in touch with the close friends. Kids definitely add a whole different dynamic to marriage overall. However, not everyone has or wants kids though.

But.....i do want kids. :D

I find people who drink have lots of "drinking friends".... A couple years after I moved in to the neighborhood, I threw a 4th of July block party with my neighbor and we had a great turn out (75+people). Now I have lots of friends, but the ones who come over or invite us over are drinkers.... Not good... I'll have a few Natural Lights around the fire on a Friday or Saturday night with the neighbor friends.... But the funny thing is, you never hang around unless your drinking.... I guess that's why they call it "social drinking".

good friends are few and far between, aquantices are many

a good friend finds you and vice versa, join a social league of a sport you may like or something along those lines, you need friends who you have more in common with than just lifting IMHO or all you'll ever talk about is bb'ing.

good luck

yeah, I guess i had only been in tampa a couple years before getting married and having our first kid, so I hadn't made too many close friends (and all of them were and I bet still are single) so for me its mostly "work friends". I have some people I keep in vague touch with by email + messenger, but nobody who I actually go hang out with. but i dont actually have time to go hang out either, so it all sort of works out ok :)

Alot of people only feel comfortable when drinking. My house was the party house for the past few years and i've got my **** together now, but i had one of my "friends" tell me that i was a lot more fun when i was drunk, and I told her, after some reflection: it's YOU who's more fun when im drunk.

Lol - I like that, and so true on many accounts.

I seen a big mofo working at a GNC the other day.... I mean really big... Maybe I should have asked if he would be my friend.....
Not to steal the tread, but whats the deal with GNC Pro Performance Wheybolic Extreme 60 Whey and the regular Pro Performance Whey.... He said, look dude, your only getting 20 grams of protein with each serving of the regular and 60 grams with the wheybolic.... Well he talked me into it... Once I got home I found out, you take 3 scoops to get your 60 grams.... I could have done that with the regular one and saved $50.00.... Maybe that's why I didn't ask him to be my friend.:frustrate

that would be so cool! We just don't have that sort of thing Downunder, and if we did the price would be more like $1,275!

well if u were a chick i'd tell u to go hang around like a bus station w/out any underpants on...

ok, if leon said it then it must be ok because he's cool, he's clean, he's a love machine!

Leon Phelps: My name is Leon Phelps, and to those of you that are uninitiated, I am an expert in the ways of love. I have made love to many fine ladies from the lowliest bus station skank to the classiest most sophisticated, educated, debutant, high society... bus station skank

-

Radio station manager: Mr. Phelps, I see you've listed "dabut" under your hobbies?

leon phelps: Yeah, that's da butt

i also like tennis

i like how this thread has turned from him wanting to meet people into a Leon Phelps Skanksgiving Day festival.

but it all seriousness..dude ive been to 3 colleges in 4 years, the best way i have found is in the gym. usually the football players are the ones who will have a similar lifestyle, it all can start by just asking for a spot, then ull have classes with them. slow but steady.

im not sayin everyone is chill, some arent worth the time, just sayin that supplement stores, not just gnc, can have guys that understand the lifestyle better

No offense, but I would find life pretty boring if I only hung out with people that 'lived the lifestyle'. Don't get me wrong, I have biker friends, party friends, softball friends, music friends, etc. And do those activities with those groups, but I wouldn't want to hang out with just 'one' type. Whether they understand it or not, they will just accept that what you do or not.

ya. i guess the key is to find someone who is understanding rather than the same.

It would be like marrying your female clone. Sounds cool in the beginning, but then I think I would get bored with myself awful fast.

just like jerry seinfeld when he met jeanie steinman

This is why I hated Seinfeld and never watched a single episode...

i wish we could customize our chicks to our preferences... save soooooooo much time and emotion

Man, I so hear that. Although, it would be nice to 'tinker' with them on the fly too. Maryann when she's gotta meet Mom or the Boss, Ginger when you're feeling randy...
