Who has dropped plates on their toes?

b unit

Well-known member
I was working out yesterday morning and somehow managed to drop a 30lb plate on my big toe, it friggin hurt, i couldn't see how bad it was cause i had shoes on so i did my best to try and walk it off but it didn't help much, needless to say i contined to finish my workout anyway

by the time i got home my toe nail started turning blue and throbbed like hell.

today it's stopped throbbing but still hurts and is a nice blue colour, anyone else done anything like this?

i had a friend at the gym once drop a 44lb plate on his toe when he was taking plates off the hack squat and it split his toe and broke it, blood pissed out big time!!!

cheers

I haven't personally myself(thank god :)), however i've treated many over the years in the E.R. that did.

I have not and hope to keep it that way. I feel for you though.

lol, i'm just glad it wasn't a 44lb or even a 55 lb plate.

we use kg's where i live so that why we have odd numbered lb's because 44lb is 20kg's and 55lb is 25kg's.

I've only dropped a 25 lb'er on my big toe, but the damn thing is always sprained, so it didn't really bother me.

i'm expecting it to but i hope it doesn't

anyone caught their fingers between plates when loading up a leg press or a hack squat for example?

oh yeah Ive done that! It was a minor thing though. Turned red, hurt like hell but it wasnt that serious.

I also remember back in HS this fat ugly retarded kid dropped a 45 on his foot. (probably deserved it. he was a fag to no ends) He ended up breaking it and had crutches for a month.

What sucks is that the weight isnt even 45 pounds. If you drop it, thats momentum right there. That **** will ****ing HURT.

I usually pinch the meat of my palm around my thumb while loading up for deads.

Yea omfg!! i have actually done it twice while doing bench dips a 45lb plate 2 weeks in a row on my right foot(big toe)!!Dam that thing is ugly... Needless to say I stopped doing them until I began working out with a training partner!! Not to mention I told myself i'd be buying steel-toed boots...never happened:toofunny:

Never a toe.
Screwed up my fingers pretty bad here and there.
I like the pain during workouts like that. I get frustrated and turn it into workout intensity....
"Im bleeding...BLEEDING!! AAHAHHHHHH!!! SQQUUAAAAAAATT!!"
hahaha not that intense.

I once put the dumbbell back and missed the rack. my figer got slammed into the rack with the dumbbell cause I "missed"

**** was throbbing and black and blue for 2 weeks!

i sorta did the same a long time ago, the guy i was training with didn't clear his dumbells out of the way when we were doing incline dumbell presses and i dropped my dumbells down on top of his and blew the end out of one of my fingers, it looked like a small bomb had gone off inside it and exploded at the end of my middle finger, blood everywhere

good times lol

I one put a 45lb plate on the smith machine, and musta knocked another 45lb plate off one of the pins about chest high, and it hit the ground and slammed into my shin.. **** hurt like a mother ****er.. Was bleeding and all bruised up.

When i was a jr. in high school i was pressing the 100s and after i threw them done when i was done and they bounced like 5 feet (floor was rubber) away and landed on my friends foot. lol

I smashed my middle finger between two plates once, and it gave me a black nail, and a reason to give old ladies the finger.

I just got back from the gym. No word of a lie, I pulled a 45lb plate off a pin and didn't spot the 12.5lb one sitting in front of it (they were those old blue rusty ones). It fell straight on my left big toe. I can't remember the last time that happened. I usually just jam my fingers in between things. I'm now blaming my swollen purple toe on b unit entirely as he started the thread.

Ive happend stubbed a toe recently... but its def agreed if it happens..b unit will be at fault!!!:toofunny:

if it makes you feel better then i'll take the blame.

we now have an admission of guilt so now let the healing begin

I drop a whole plate of spaghetti on my toe once.

Yeah, over the years of training in my garage I have smashed some toes and fingers and knees and shins and elbows.

The plates survived OK ;)

Smashed Toe Log - day 3 or 51 hours later lol

seems a lot better today and i'm walking a little easier, went to gym this morning and did shoulders and arms, went ok, throb in toe is gone but still quite sore , hope the nail doesn't fall off

first day and a half was really painful, resisted the urge to go to a medical center as i don't think it's broken and all they will do ius take my $$$ and write a script for some anti-inflammatories which i don't like using unless i really really have to

here's an attached pic

I did exactly that in high school, still have the 2" long scar where my finger exploded.I have never let my dumbell down to the side again,I now rest them on the thigh's and stand up.Very paranoied about it every since.

good to know i'm not the only one and i got a decent scar too and a deformed end to my finger (might post a pic - lol) , it's a nice reminder and i've never repeated the same mistake again.

DAY 4 or 96 hours later

Toe a lot better but still slightly sore but i was able to train legs today ok, still touch and go on whether the nail will fall off or not, lol

cheers

*not* touch & go - you'll lose the nail.

It'll take about a year for the new one to grow in - maybe 3-4 months before you lose this one.

Hurts like o holy handgrenades at first don'it?

Did this to myself once, picking up a pair of 25-pounders @ Sports Authority: leaned the first one on edge against the shelf & bumped it w/ my foot while wrangling the second. Plate flipped down & right on to my tennie-clad toe.

Have been VERY careful since.

i put a hairline fracture in my foot when a 25lb weight fell on it.
went to grab the 45 off a bench someone had left. not really paying attention i didn't realize there was also a 25 on there.
when i slid off the 45lb plate....down went the 25 straight onto the top of my foot.
the pain was increadible.
had it x-rayed. just a hairline fracture. didn't need a cast, just had to stay off it for a bit.

cheers, i found myself today when loading and unloading the leg press and hack squat that i was really holding on to the plates, imagine dropping a plate on an already fcuked up toe, lol

that's life in the gym ain't it?

looking cut hank, good stuff!

I dropped a 45 on my foot last week but it somehow landed in a way that didn't hurt at all. Holla!

I've pinched my fingers plenty when racking weights. Lots of blood-blisters.

i dropped a 45 on my left big toe before off the leg press. it crushed the toe pretty bad and took a big part of the nail off, and it actually grew back on wrong and they had to put some kind of stuff under the nail to kill some of the nerves underneath, the nail still looks like crap a couple years later. if it hasn't happened to you yet, hold onto your plates fellas!

day 7 and i'm walking a lot better

colour in nail is starting to return back to normal but it's weeping a mixture of old blood and clear liquid, it's an orange colour. i'd say it's from the old bruised area under the nail and it's just healing and draining off, does anyone have an idea on when the nail might drop off?
