what the hell is dnp?

DNP (2,4-Dinitrophenol), an industrial chemical with various applications, has gained steady popularity as a fat loss tool. Boasting an astounding 50% increase in metabolic rate, it is able to contribute to reported fat losses of 10-12 pounds in 8 days of use. Classified as an "uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation" medically, it is quite dangerous as there is no negative feedback system that may deal with overdoses. Specifically, there is no upper limit to the increase in body temperature that may be obtained with its use.

Introduction/History

Competitive bodybuilders and many others are continually on a quest for leanness. Used by the hardcore since Dan Duchaine's reporting of it a couple years ago, DNP (2,4-Dinitrophenol) has managed to steadily gain popularity as a powerful tool for weight loss. Interestingly, DNP was first used to ignite TNT in the early 1900’s. In 1931 a study released by Stanford University declared that DNP was able to cause amazing weight loss; subsequently it found its way into many diet potions and medications; regulation was much less strict during this time than the present, and many of these products were available over the counter. Two years later DNP was banned by the FDA as a dieting agent due to its inclusion in many OTC dietary supplements. The FDA was a new organization at this time and acted in a rather brazen manner, with the absence of any set procedures for taking substances off the market. Granted, there was only a 1% incidence of cataracts over a large population (around 100,000); nonetheless it happened (although interestingly, exclusively women). However, there are now ways to counter this which will be covered thoroughly.

The comparisons to the current drugs used for dieting are astounding, at least in terms of thermogenesis. While the ECA stack has been shown to provide approximately a 3% increase in metabolic rate, DNP can deliver a relatively controlled 50% elevation in resting metabolic rate. The thermogenic aspect of clenbuterol, while sometimes overestimated due to the high CNS stimulation that yields a "wired" feeling, can vary according to prior exposure to various amphetamine-like compounds and certainly is not much greater than that of ECA. DNP does not have the anorectic effects of ephedrine or other thermogenic agents; rather, it tends to increase hunger, particularly appetite for carbohydrates. This problem is easily solved with appetite suppressants, and one may even use ECA itself for this purpose while on DNP.

Molecular Basis for Efficacy

DNP accomplishes the astounding boost in metabolic rate via inhibition of the F0F1 ATP synthase molecule, located in the inner wall of each mitochondrion. While the electron transport chain still functions to pump hydrogen ions into the intermembrane space, the coupling of the proton gradient to ATP production is rendered impossible by DNP. As a result, ATP production is dramatically reduced, and the energy is instead thrown off as heat. This results in an astounding production of heat; when using dinitrophenol, the athlete will radiate so much heat that it is uncomfortable to be within any proximity of them. Luckily, this heat does not fully contribute to body temperature increases, and is instead thrown off from the entire body surface, particularly the head. As a result, adequate doses of DNP will usually only elevate body temperature by about 1-1.5ºC. This is a good thing for your central nervous system and other delicate tissues; if the heat produced by ATP contributed in a more direct matter to body temperature, effective doses for fat loss would cause supraphysiological body temperature increases on a level unwitnessed at this time. Nonetheless, overheating is a very real danger; this and other side effects shall now be addressed.

Risks/Side Effects

Hearing all of these wonderful things probably has you wondering what the side effects and risks are. They are quite formidable and contribute to making DNP one of the most intolerable (though effective) drugs used in bodybuilding. Starting with the most significant, and descending in importance, are the following risks and side effects of DNP use.

Risks:

Overheating - There is no upper limit to DNP's body temperature increase, meaning that one may literally "cook from the inside" if they take too much. Dosage considerations will be given later, but even an overdose of 4-6 times the recommended dosage may be lethal. Much smaller overdoses may result in damage to the brain and/or other body systems.

Carcinogenesis - Phenols in general are reputed to be carcinogenic. Although 2,4-dinitrophenol has never been implicated in a cancer diagnosis, some are nonetheless concerned, and understandably so. In addition to the inherent carcinogenic potential caused by its status as a phenol, production of free radicals and the release of various compounds stored in adipose tissue stores during DNP's rapid oxidation of fat may also potentially be harmful.

Death - This is self-explanatory and has occurred with several bodybuilders who chose to use this compound.

Side Effects:

Discomfort and sweating - This is the single most noticeable effect of DNP use, both by the user and those around him/her. Even in the winter, while indoors at ambient temperatures, one may expect his or her shirt to be completely soaked through with sweat. Those with jobs requiring formal or semi-formal apparel are advised to consider other means of fat loss (or a new job, if preferred). Other obvious considerations lie in the areas of social life, personal appearance, etc. and the user must prioritize.

Insomnia - Second in frequency of reports to sweating and discomfort is insomnia; this may be at least partially attributed to discomfort. Possible means of countering this include such supplements as Valerian root or melatonin. Alternatively, one may deal with this via prescription or OTC sleep medications or GHB-A precursors. However, these may be addictive if used on a regular basis and if their use may be avoided, by all means abstain from using them.

Yellow bodily fluids - Some don't notice this, but others find that all of their bodily fluids take on a yellowish appearance. Urine is a darker yellow, and even semen and vaginal secretions may be affected. According to current knowledge, this is not known to be harmful in and of itself.

Muscle Soreness - This is yet another thing that may be minimized via cerebral function. Dan Duchaine has recommended using a weight such as to allow no fewer than 15 reps per set of any weight training workout; judging from anecdotal reports and personal experience, this seems to be good advice. Low levels of ATP are a cause of muscle soreness in and of itself; the additional factor of encumbered recovery mechanisms make extreme soreness (and if not careful, catabolism) quite possible.

Allergic Reactions – These are highly individualized but may be summarily discussed. Various reactions are common with DNP use, and approximately 10% of users will be extremely allergic to it. Allergic reactions can include hives, blisters, and/or inexplicable rashes. If you suffer any of these side effects, and they are extremely bothersome, it is the recommendation of the author to cease usage immediately. If so desired, another trial may be made at a later date with a lower dosage, but do not attempt to continue the drug cycle at that point.

Carbohydrate Cravings - To counter this, some methods will be touched on later. As with most diets, willpower is sometimes the single most important factor.

Don't forget to give credit. Where was that pulled? Meso I believe.

Guide to bulking on a budget. I have decided to write a guide on bulking on diffent budget level because some people don’t have $200 plus dollars a month to spend on supplements and steak. I have decide to split this up in three levels, based on how much money one has to spend plus the basic three meals a day.this means if your family live on the “square 3” and you have to get your orther 3-4 meals a day on a limit budget, here’s one way to do it.PLAN ONE:very litmited budget,50 bucks ever two weeks.OK,here’s what you do,first go to wal-mart.get three thing’s.rice, potatoes, and tuna.these three things are the cheapest source of protein and calories out there I know.I’ve just got this 20 POUND bag of rice from wal-mart the orther day for 8 bucks!!!!it’s that cheap.tuna is one of the cheapest forms of protein out there for 50-60 cents a can. Get 50 cans of tuna.that’s 25-30 bucks.now get that bag of rice,8 bucks.the orther 12-15 bucks goes to potatoes.this will provide calories a-pleanty for cheap!!and if your really hard core get liver, which is like 2 bucks for a couple meals worth.

Test,DHT,estrogen, and strengh, hardness in the natural bodybuilder.
Do you know how some people are really strong but not big(powerlifter type)and some people are really big,but can’t lift nowhere near what you thought they would? I’ve noticed this, and made a ob. Based on what I’ve seen. This conclusion is based on visual data only, and by no means can I prove it.If you look, more times than not,the big guy will be soft(not fat, that’s different and makes total sense, more fat, more weight)while the smaller guy will be very hard.At first fat mass was my first guess why smaller(more ectomorphic) guys were stronger.Bigger guys were simply fatter. But upon more thought and looking at more and more bodies this doesn’t pan out.Bigger guys were bigger but not much fatter. This was when you start to belive it has something to do with the nerveous system. But what links the nerveous system to smaller guys hardness, and bigger guys sheer size.If smaller guys had more total hormones why where they smaller than the bigger guys? And if the bigger guys had more total hormones why weren’t they just as hard as the smaller guys.To explain these odd and confuseing results both DHT and estrogen’s role on the body need to be known in different ways.DHT effects on the nerveous system are up first. Basicly DHT has very postive effects on the subjects’ abillty to move weight. This is why if you took a cycle of pure DHT you would likely get hard and very strong but not big(strong because of the nerveous system)And it is generally agreed(although some would dissagee) that takeing a 5-alpha-redutase inhibitor is generaly a very bad idea if strengh is your goal(powerlifter, ect.)Estrogen on the other hand tends to promote large gains in size, with no more if not much less gains in strengh.(This is clearly seen with products like test. Susp.,who host massive estrogen turnover). This is perhaps due to estrogens abillty to upregulate androgen receptors, which has been shown in some studies.By now you may be wondering what this could be about? How will this help a natural bodybuilder? The anwser is in anti-estrogens,which are in my view partially mismarked. Two studies(willoughby,D,et,al(2007) Int j sports Nutr Exer Metab.17:92-108.)and (Rohle,D,et,al(2007) J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 4:13) show the effects of two of the most popular anti-estrogen products;6-oxo,and novadex –XT.The long and short of it is that although both anti-estrogens worked,novadex-XT was by far the winner. At only 72 milligrams compared to 6-oxo 300 or 600 milligrams Nova increased test by 283%,free test by 625% and DHT by a whopping 566%!!!!!! 6-oxo on the other hand provied only 90% increase in FREE test at 300 mill, and a even lower 84% in the 600 milligram group.VERY DISSAPOINTING!
DHT was stlightly better in 6-oxo however,at 192% at 300 mill,and 265% at 600.
Intrestingly,ESTRADIOL(the most potent form of natural estrogen)increased 27% and 12% in 6-oxo users in 300 and 600 millagram groups resp. What does this all mean?It most likely means “anti-estrogens” are not really that but simple hormone boosters. The real change is in the T/E ratio, not in estrogen levels.I have personally tried novadex XT,and found it to work good at increaseing my strengh(bench press)and my feeling of wellbeing, which probably is due to the DHT more than the test.(note,I was using novadex at a quarter to half of recomm. Dose.)I have never tried 6-oxo although I have used 11-oxo and found it quite good, although not great.I have used other anti-estrogens other than nova, however, like that one from LG SCI. and found them to be nowhere near novadex in turns of results.I have seen one guy try these products with a prohormone however, and HE quickly dried up and got much harder.Likely, these products shift the hormone balance of the body to the strongly androgeric.Likewise these types of products will most certainly help you if a strong, hard, ripped body is a goal.On the other hand those who size is the major concern may not be helped by estrogen suppression.(althoght again as we seen in OTC anti-estrogens estrogen is not really suppressed at all!!!
AS for stacking considerations two possibilities come to mind. One is futher suppression of SHBG(sex hormone binding globlin)Freeing up yet more test and DHT.There are downsides to this however, namely more free estrogen(SHBG carries estrogen as well as androgens.)Luckly SHBG normally binds to androgens more than estrogens(which is a kind of a bad thing too!!!!)which would probably shift the balance to the androgeric if it(SHBG)were downregulated.Another way to get more out of anti-estrogens would be to increase androgen receptor levels, which several supplements claim to do,namely RECEPTOR by LG SCI. and X-FACTOR.AT this point I am going to sum up by saying that while test is almost always considered king,DHT is a very potent steroid as well, and boosting it 500%+ percent is no laughtable feat.Something to think about.

To my readers of Help You Guru:
You may be wondering why I haven’t be posting lately.I have had two recent events which have postpone me from posting. One is some legal troubles relateing to my family, which has unfortunely not allowed me to post for the last 4-6 weeks.Another is my loss of my anabolic minds password, and since I have change my email address I do not know how to get it back.I may have to change my user name.also after this posting I may not be able to post(legal troubles again)for some time.hopefully I will be able to post again very soon. There is a silver lineing to this however.when I am able to post again I may be able to post nearly ever day. I would like this very much.(my workouts have been going great and hope to post pictures soon)Thank you,and hope to post again soon.

James,

Your enthusiasm and youthful exuberance is appreciated and noted. I do not doubt that you are 15 years old and 198lbs. Judging from the shear amount of posts you have, this leads me to believe you are indeed 15 with no job or girlfriend. Also, I have to agree with Dogsoldier. Your English grammar lacks - perhaps read a book between sets. If that is too much for you, there is this great invention included in most all word processing programs called spell checker - use it to your advantage.

Surely you knew that your post would draw such an emotional response? :)

Anyway, your workout techniques and regime is interesting to say the least.

Part 2 of my cheap bulking is a little more diverse.this is for 100-150$ plus three basic meals a day.Rice, tuna, all that stays. This second level of bulking does included a few extra things thought.first up is fruit. Providing plenty of simply sugers something like oranges is my choice.apples(always green ones)are great too.this fruit should cost less than 15$ every 2 weeks.next is protein, which can be in two forms, whey protein shakes(at wal-mart near 2 weeks worth is like 12 bucks(body fortress)or a online sorce of liver tabs.this is your choice, thought I do belive in liver tabs.whey is much easier to get however.so now we’re up to around 25$ plus the orginal 50$, so we’re around 75$.the last 25-50$ is going to be spent in two areas, carbs and supplements.this will be split into two options depending on what your weight is.option A is great for those under 200,while option B is better for those over 200.option A is as fallows.those under 200 should be getting plenty of calories for their musclear weight.getting more food would only add fat.thus option A relies on supplements.creatine(10$),glutamine(10-15$),BCAA(15-20$),digestive enzymes(5-6$)are what your going to get.these are basic yet proven.(note:creatine will most likely last up to a month)with nothing eles orther than hard training and rest growth should begin.option B inclues the creatine and digestive enzymes, yet cuts out the rest of the supplements for carbs, namely pasta.
