Turkey
Cyprus
Gibralta
Germany
N. Ireland
England
France
Bosnia
Japan
.... i could go on.

Again most people around the bases like the americans and british and french, however theres always some smart assed americans, british or french that ruin the reputation for others......


So to answer your question yes i have lived in the middle east. because you may have served some months there, does not mean you understand the culture. If you enter with a hatred of a culture, you only pick up the negative things that re-inforce your already held image of that religion.

My personal belief is that all religions are the same to me, all created to control the people, and create conflict. Again this is my personal belief so dont flame me for it.

Seriously, when you die, do you really think gods up there like "hmmm you a christan or muslim, you cant come into my kingdom."

I live in the damn bible belt, and frankly i could throw a giant watermellon at every religious christian (extreme religious) i see. The same as I could happily throw a grapefruit at a extremist muslim.

There are however people of both religious who are not extremists, who dont care if their neighbor doesnt believe in the same relgion, and doesnt judge them. If there is a god, thats who he would be proud of. Not some extremist douchebag that hates the other religion.

I dont have any more to say on this, because no matter what I say, or anyone says. If you hate another religion for whatever reason thats your business. I couldnt give a flying cow pat whether christiantiy or muslim is the correct religion, or whether you want to send everyone of the opposite religion to hell. Whatever.

This discussion was about the gym, and my belief is that they shouldnt have seperate hours, and if they do it should be ALL WOMEN allowed at that time, and they should also have a MEN ONLY time too.

I wasnt the bit suprised when some of you start raving rasist garbage thats frankly immature and stupid. The same way you may laugh at the womens choice to wear a headscarf, is probably the same reason they laugh at you for wearing a cross around your neck.

i wish people on both sides of the relgious divide would grow up and accept each other. Muslims stop hating on christans, christians stop hating on muslims.

But we the american people nor our forefathers (unless of your mexican decent aka spanish settlers or french settlers.... mostly canadians now) then WE did not do these things your talking about. most of us are from english colonists that were the ones who broke free from the opressive peoples you speak of with forced religion (spainards and french) or the rest of us are folks who hae immigrated the years following the colonization and establishing of our government....

i appologize poopy, but i was simpy trying to make a point. some people tie muslims with the same stick, so i turned it around and tied all christians with the same stick. (i.e all muslims want to kill christians, all christians killed native americans).

im not offended in the least, I just dont think its right to qoute you should know your history and then misrepresent historical facts in the same post.....

I personally am only offended by the fact that any and all minorities think they should get something special for being a minority.... I cant get JACK as far as college and assistance goes cause Im a white male with rich parents (that dont support me and havnt since I was 19) so Im screwed while others get a but load of nmoney thrown at them and have grants gallore to put them through college. So it pisses me off to see that after these peoples get into college on a mostly free ride they then piss and moan about their "rights" at the college and the kids who had to work their asses off to get SCHOLORSHIPS and or pay hard cash to be there get shafted in every way cause the arent part of this minority.... it F'n sucks so if this is what muslims think is fair then I agree F them, if this is what every other minority thinks is fair wether they be black mexican or asian well then F them too, and if im racists for being pissed that my race has no frickin "free parking" pass and gets stuck with the "do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars" card THEN F THEM AGAIN and I must be racist (which im the farthest thing from). I hate every ignorant degenerate looking for a handout with an equal passion.:D

I agree with you there. I dont remember the system (maybe someone can help here), but there is this thing where by colleges and the workplace have to accept a certain percentage of the total college or workplace population as a minority. It was like law or something (man i really cant remember what its called).

Anyway, the issue is that they would frequently let into college, or hire a person just based on their skin color, or ethnicity, so that they compelted the governement requirements.

Thats wrong.

I also know that some people of "minorities" frequently play the race card as they know it works. No matter the situation.

They dont get a job, its because im "such and such. I didnt get into college, its because im "such and such".

The people create hatred in the community and fuel racism.

I don't think that most minorities are out there thinking that. I have a feeling that the Muslim women, who happen to be in the minority, asked if the least used gym could be closed off to guys for a few hours. The reason why they asked is because of their religion, but that's different than thinking that they're entitled to having gym hours.

You know that men and women used to work out separately back in the 70's, right? This really isn't anything new.
 
Any debate surrounding prejudice or racism or whatever the hell you want is either overgeneralized from past events and includes wayyyy too many people to be accurate, or, far too rarely, is a specific, case-by-case situation that shows an individual or group of individuals to be at fault (the way it should be considered)..

Ever own a slave? No. Ever kill a Native American? No. Ever force Christianity on anybody? No. I take responsibility for what I do -- not what people who share my nationality did however many years ago. This isn't like a roll-over system for workplace sick days -- you keep YOUR OWN score.

Is it a big deal that they want their own gym hours? Not really. Should they be allowed to have them? Fvck no. Suck it up and share the gym like every other god damn student there or don't go at all -- it's hard to even take that stuff seriously when you think about it..

This is all just reverse discrimination or whatever you want to call it -- just like AA. Try asking for Christian only hours and see how much sh!t you stir up. How about Buddhist only hours? How insane does that sound? Rastafarian Hours? Ridiculous.

OK But it was completely driven by religion.

well its nice they had good intentions with their request but how come now there are two hour blocks of time where NO ONE is using the gym since they dont even take advantage of their own desired "entitlement" cause of their religion.

I really dont think that they couldnt do anything more at the gym that they cant accomplish in the pivacy of their own home/dorm/apartment and not impede on others ability to use Gym specific equipment... dont think under those shalls are the bodies of ladies that are hittin some hard iron. Its really a rediculous request IMO given no one esle is shown the same entitlement to choosing the folks and conditions in which they get to use those facilities with.

This is why Harvard said that they will revisit the situation at the end of the semester :) It might be that if they don't use it enough, they won't get it.

I hope you gain from it that i feel that both religions are equally good and bad as each other.

I have no sides on any religion. I hate the extremists from both sides, and have the upmost respect for those who accept anothers reglion.

I do not side with any religion. I follow no religion. I belive there is a god, but i do not belive he/she/it intended for us to argue over who is right and wrong.

I also do not wish to start anything with you, and i do respect your opinion. But please read what i wrote and i hope you understand where im coming from.

anyway we moved about every 6 months as his job required constand relocation. Not fun packaing up a house every 6 months just as you make friends, you have to leave.

anyway i saw a lot and that experience is extremely valuable to me.

Whether you are Muslim, Christian, agnostic, Scientologistic, etc... NOBODY should get 'special' gym time that denies others from using those facilities.

This can (and somewhat is in this thread) spiral into a whole 'this vs. that' argument. Remember, we aren't speaking on 'tolerance' on a holistic view... just this special gym-time issue (which really seams ridiculous the more I think about it).

Will I laugh at Muslims when they throw down their towels and pray to the East? Nope. Will I laugh at Muslims when they stroll around wearing veils? Nope. These are thing that have zero effect on the rest of the population. But, when they start displacing the majority... that's a problem.

But you must be pretty educated yourself to bring that up, seeing as how only a select few are in-trusted with that kind of knowledge!! And I have traveled "over seas" most of my life cause my dad is a Chief in the US Navy. Have I seen someone beheaded? No! But I have many friends that have see much worse happen in Iraq and Afghanistan while they were defending pussy's like you and some never came back!!! Take it as an insult if you will, but when my wife is muslim and i have lived in those "countries", i take it as insult that you tie everyone with the same attitude.

That was in no way meant to offend, but i am fed up of people who really stereotype and look at my wife everytime we enter a bar as if she has a pack of explosives attached to her back.

She doesnt practice her religion, hell she doesnt even wear any religious clothing, but she is brown. And where i live brown = mexican or terrorist (both are hated).

So when you start raving about beheading, you sound exactly like the people around here. .... but just because someone beheaded someone.....and it was religious doesnt mean everyone does it or agrees to it. Im sorry if that happened to your friends, really i am, but you cant say that everyone is like that.
