harvard bans men from gym in favor of muslim females

They have female only gyms ALL over the place that men cannot join. Is that wrong? You can't have a men-only gym. Is that bullcrap or is it because they are Muslim?
 
They aren't paying to go to all womens gyms, your tuition does pay for your gym membership ( atleast in most colleges I know of - SUNY ).

I think the point is they feel uncomfortable working out infront of men, I feel uncomfortable going into the the locker room with gross old naked dudes that are powdering their balls.

Wheres my time slot that says no gross old naked dudes with freshly powdered balls?
 
Their religious doctrine is the reason for their aversion. They are paying students, too. Shouldn't concessions be made for them? These questions are just me playing devil's advocate. Personally, I have to say that I'm on the fence about the whole situation. Since the beginning, so many things have benefitted only one kind of citizen. Now that an effort is being made to include everyone, people are crying foul or liberal this, hippy that. "'F' you and your religious beliefs" doesn't really sound American at all.

I know they have a all womens gym, but last I heard they CANT deny a membership for a guy. Granted the **** in those gyms no guy could EVER get huge if they tried. 5lbs dumbells, ankle weights. Bah
 
But, where does this stop? They don't want to be looked at, they shouldn't leave the house, IMO.

When my bodyfat is up, I don't tend to frequent pools and such as much as when my BF is low. Should I get my own slot for pool time because I suck?

Also, I doubt we will be able to include 'everyone' in anything. It's just not possible. There will always be the offended and always be an offender.

EDIT: AND, considering the US gov't is supposed to be separate from church/religion, people that hold NO religious beliefs, such as myself, get the F-ing shaft. I get no special 'rights'.

I don't think they wonder at all. I think they know that they suck. That makes it even worse.

Also, what ever happened to the good of the many > the good of the few? I'm not sure of the ethnic enrollment figures at any school, but I can't imagine that the gym is packed w/ Muslim women during that time slot. What? 5? 10? So, the greater majority lose out to concede to a handful of people.

But religion is protected by law. Certainly, it's impossible to please everyone. But should the needs of a particular group be ignored/dismissed just because it's unpopular?

I don't view it as a 'need'. They aren't going to die if they don't get their very own 3 hour spot in the gym.

I know what you are saying... but, I don't think the wants of a few should outweigh the wants of the many, religiously based or not.

I still think they should shut themselves in their house and not leave if it is such a problem. I've had a face full of zits before and I chose not to leave the house. I suppose that I should have petitioned that Wal-Mart let me have my own shopping spree with nobody else around because it makes me feel uncomfortable.

They have countries for Muslims where they are catered to concerning there religion. We fcuking made this country in the first place to be able to practice Christianity in the way we want. I'd love to see any of you guys who are so sympathetic to their plight go to fcuking Iraq or turkey, Iran, Syria, or any Muslim nation and see how quickly they cater to your needs. You'd either be getting drug through the street skinned alive while the public spit and pissed on you, or you'd be the star actor in a movie were you get your fcuking head sawed off on national TV while your family and friends watch in horror!

Well said matt. It's NOT a good thing at all. I work in the healthcare system where probably 30% of the people i encounter can't even speak english. That's where i draw the line. If you live in this country for MANY years yet refuse to learn the national language.... please exit stage left. No other foreign country would tolerate that crap.

I wouldnt go to germany and expect everyone to speak english.... same as i wouldnt go to canada and expect everyone to speak english ;) :p

Wait a minute. Harvard makes its least used gym women-only for 6 hours out of a whole week because they were politely asked to do so and you all explode as if this is going to lead to some slippery slope of the whole country being ran by muslims?

One time my friend politely asked me to stop bringing up a certain story. It wasn't that big of a deal to me, so I did.

I bet its less.... the article itself said the day the folks reporting this article went to the time slot not a single muslim woman was there.... great use of the two hours 10-20 non muslim dudes would have been using. This shiii policy will be watched and removed come its revision time since it was most likely a small activist group of women that dont even go to the gym and some who prob arent even muslim but just wanted a cause to sign a petition for.... This is **** but nothing can be done about it other then letting the tards up top realize they are wasting their own resources and pissing off the majority of the popuation in the mean time.

I could go off on all the other issues surrounding this but most have already said what I can...lets just say Im all for respect of ones beliefs as long as accomadating one wont infringe on anothers, this def does and if they want to have a place to workout in peace/seclusion then its their own responsibility to provide this with their own resources and locations that wont make others have to accomadate them by giving something up themselves.
