Alexander's strength training log

Yeah, I think I'm going to cool with the stims for a while or maybe just stick to RPM. I'm not digging geranamine these days.
Is it making you feel weird, sick, loss of appetite? I think it might be doing all three to me, but I never have a good appetite anyways.

There's a thread about it in the supps section, but it has sexual sides :frustrate (although you'd have to be getting some ass for it to matter  ) and it seems to cause some weird mood issues. Sometimes I'm very happy and social while others I was pissy for no reason.

BTW, I had the chills all yesterday which I think was a result of doing heavy rack pulls with heavy squats. CNS no likey.

So you're having trouble getting boners, and you figured you'd make fun of my lack of a sex life to make yourself feel better............that's cool. Seriously though, I think it is making me moody, and out of it. Probably a combo of it and CNS being messed up from heavy lifting. Why do we have such pvssy CNS's and Buki never wears down. Time to start doing some specific GPP work me thinks.

I think it would help with CNS recovery. I think GPP is intended to get you in shape/raise work capacity for your particular sport while also helping you recover at the same time. I have a sled that I bought from Elitefts years ago, time to bust it out. I also have 20 and 40# medicine balls to mess around with. The sled really seemed to help with recovery for my upper body. Doing concentric only for high reps seemed to really help. I need to start trying harder mentally and physically because I haven't made any real gains in quite some time.

I worked out tonight, but it was really bad. I was doing some floor presses and my cat came up and I started petting her, then I fell asleep, woke up an hour later, did a set of jumping jacks and called it a day. Is this my workout log?

I was trying to talk myself into having energy, sh*t just doesn't work out sometimes. I'm normally an unstoppable force, but Tate was laying down right next to where my elbow would've hit the floor. I'll get em next time.

Damn buddy!

And yes my CNS does get shot. But you have to understand I’ve been working on my training program for a few years to get it dialed in to where it does not do that to me and in what I need to do to recover may not always be visible from the outside eye. Although I am known for always overtraining according to all the PL’s I used to train with….that and the “kabuki theory of relativity” which involved the reason for missed lifts was that non enough weight was loaded on the bar. Although I don’t do that second one anymore.

Enough about me.

Here are some deloading options. Please read.

Thanks. I always took deloading as getting blacked out drunk for a week straight, this changes my view.

tues-max lower

box squat(16")-545# x5

manta ray pause squats-275# 2 sets 12

GHR's- 27, 22

pinch grip 2-35#plates(smooth on outside)-rt-35 secs, lt-20 secs(left wrist has been haggered for years, punching Fedor style can be bad)

good workout. feelin good, no naps during workout.

Box squats: awesome.

Manta Ray squats: did you grow a vagina or something? :D

GG Jas told me pause squats were good for quad development, turned out to be a trick on his part, and they're really more geared toward hammy development. They do seem to hit the quads pretty though and I figured I would add my own GG touch by using the GG manta ray to place more stress on the quads. I've had a vagina for quite some time, but it is gaping lately.

Got a question for you guys. I have exceptionally strong fingers, most likely from not having a girlfriend for so long. Do you think it would be possible to deadlift holding the bar in my finger tips, thus getting 1-2" less pulling distance?

yes. I have seen some hook grip sumo pullers that have a super short pull.

Wandy loved that one.

WTF, that pinch is a little too unreal for something that I haven't seen you train. Have you been training with BJ? You probably squat close to 6 raw, learn how to cut weight and get your lazy ass in PLing (but stay away from strongman :nono: ;) )

Oh yeah, manta ray? WTF is that?

It's a urinal-looking device that goes over your shoulders and kinda holds the bar for you. It can also be a fish, but squatting with the fishy kind of Manta Rays isn't a good idea.

If the Manta Gay can help me squat 765 I'm all for it :D

Haven't done pinch grips for awhile, but I used to do them all the time. I've got a good grip, I can close, what I believe is the second hardest captain of crush grippers, at least 5 times in a row. That's with my right though, my left blows. I can't heal my wrist no matter what I do. At one point I put it in a brace for about 3 months, it felt completely better, but something set it off again.

Nice to see that Wandy finally approves of something I said. Wonder what his reaction would be to me finally getting a piece of a*s? Have you seen Norris' new av? Rodja must be a big fan.

Jas, I let it snow on the plates, which obviously helps the pinch grip.

Unfortunately the Manta Gay becomes extremely painfull over 400#s, in my experience. I've got a lot of shoulder/upper back meat, but it digs right through. Their is a sister to the MG, not sure what it's called, but I'm sure you'll find it and post it in 30-40secs.

I think the redneck child molester deer hunter strongman team has one of those......................not appenin bruvv!

You must mean the Sting Ray, which is meant for people who lie to themselves about not having enough wrist/shoulder flexibility to do front squats correctly? Naw, kidding. I can't lift nearly enough to give people a hard time :)

I saw both the Manta Gay and the Sting Gay at a gym in Florida by the squat rack. Here they only give us padding for the bar at the two university spas.

Ah, the Sting Ray. What is it? I remember it being two little silicon semtex's that sit on each shoulder and are attached with a little cord. My memory has it being a horrible creation, far worse than me Manta Gay. Tell me you don't use the pads? I guess if you're doing high bar squats it's ok, but the bar should be on your upper back, where their is plenty of meat.

Sorry Poly, I didn't even get your jab at me about the wrist flexibility and front squats, because I didn't think the SR was for anything close to front squats. I just googled it, and I see it is for front squats. You would have to be a tremendous b*tch to need that for front squats...............but my MR on the other hand is all Man:ntome:

The MR would put the bar way too high on the traps for me. I like it much lower, but I need every advantage that I can get.

I would actually use a front squat device, sadly.

A front squat harness or the Sting Ray? The SR is pointless unless the bar hurts your shoulders/collar bone. The FSH would be great because you don't have to hold your arms up there, which I think contributes to sucking wind. You want the bar high for overload on the quads, I think, that's why I use the MR.

I hold the bar pretty low for squats. I don't understand how anyone can hold the bar low and have their chest so far up and out? I can't hold my chest out, and I think that's why I fold sometimes on heavy squats.

I never used them, but that's only because I've been brainwashed by Rippetoe's writings, as jas can tell you.

One way of saying this is that you want your knees out in front of your toes more, so that you lose the hamstring contribution and instead are using glutes + quads (like in the front squat). This requires a more vertical back, which if you're going to keep the bar over your foot, means you place the bar higher (high bar position).

I guess the dreaded Smith Machine would be really good for quad development. You can have your legs so far in front, like Clemens in that workout clip they keep showing.

But how do people have their chest out with the bar in a powerlifting squat position?

Invalid Link Removed discusses bar placement, so maybe you can catch some things that he does to get his chest out? It took me 2 workouts to get somewhat comfortable (i.e., it doesn't hurt badly and the bar doesn't feel like it will fall) with the low bar position, and jas remarked that I could widen my grip even more, which helps with getting the bar low enough to contract my back muscles, take a deep breath, and get the chest out.

I guess it depends on if you want to do bodybuilding or weight lifting. My impression is that isolating parts of kinetic chains isn't the best idea if strength is the goal, especially with exercises that alter how you would normally do the lift. kabuki will probably know a lot more about this as keywords like CNS come into play.

On a similar note, check out Invalid Link Removed.

Thanks for all the info. In general I'm sure what you're saying is right, but if a muscle, in my case quads is lacking in size then some bodybuilding might be necessary. Although I'm sure I could develop them with more functional lifts. I should probably be doing some step-up or something.

thurs-max upper

Floor press-365#x5

power flyes-90#-3 sets 10

one arm cable rows-90#-3 sets 10

inc cable ext-60#-3 sets 12

decent. let's pulverize "the mouth"!

Nice edit, so true. I replied to one of his posts, and am eagerly awaiting a response. Hopefully Rogue will stop by, he loves this kinda stuff.

Rogue is probably the best at dealing with those dudes. You make slightly subtle jokes that are seen as compliments and end up getting repped for it. I go overboard.

very nice floor presses.

Weird how I perceive things. I thought you were subtle and I was a complete a**hole. Except in the "Mullet being pretentious thread" you really shined. In real life I'm a professional a**hole. I guess I tone it down on the net. Time to step my game up.

Me too. Apparently he knows everyone and everything associated with MMA.

BTW, Alex and you both make me feel weak as hell.

Thanks Rodja. I'm sure that you could put up some big numbers, but it makes no sense to with what you're training for. I hit a bag not too long ago, and I was gassed after like 1 or 2 minutes.

MAybe you're right or you have the a-hole delivery down in real life. I tend to be meaner to people that I consider friends because I assume they know that I'm at least to some extent joking.

Funny you mention that because I did a heavy bag/conditioning session today and there where two dudes that used it right after me. Literally, they each lasted about 45 seconds of ****ty striking before they were chugging for air. I laughed inside as I walked away.

Sounds like me. I like to think that it's 45 seconds of pure destruction:blink:
