One of the benfits of being owner/admin is seeing which browser you use to surf this site and most of you are still using IE. Do yourself a favor and download Firefox as it is MUCH MUCH better for surfing message boards. It blows away IE by a longshot. DOwnload it and see how faster the pages load going from forum to forum.

Do me a favor and clear all your cookies and cache then try it again. I changed something a couple days ago that might of fixed but you still might have an old cookie in there somewhere screwing things up.

just do this, makes it a lot faster without downloading anything

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere in the "aboug:config" page and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

4. Restart Firefox
Also.. make sure you get the FasterFOx Extension.. makes browsing LIGHTNING FAST.

Yeah FireFox is the best. Gotta love tabbed browsing, having 40 threads with new posts open all in one window :type:

tabbed browsing is the biggest, instead of a different window open for each page you have one open and a lot of small tabs under the adress bar.

extentions can be added, like tunderbird which is said to be the best email program available. there are thousands of extensions, you want it they have it.

updates are easy to download.

faster webpages open, especailly with the little fix i posted up earlier.

I'm using Netscape and it works much better than IE. No pop-ups. I'm all about that. Works well with this forum too.

Firefox I command you! No seriously, I love Firefox a lot more than IE, Opera, and even Safari (I'm on an iBook G4).

The tabbed browsing is def. a plus and the boards load up quicker too.

While you're at it.. buy an iBook or a Powerbook.. maybe even a G5 Tower.. ok enough of the Mac propoganda.

I use Firefox, but lately it's started crashing when I click backward in a thread to return to the main search results page in a forum, for some reason.

I got Firefox and then I switched back to IE. Firefox was doin something anoying like it would close a window when a new one opend I think? I can't remember but I got the google taskbar for it and it fixed the problem. It errored alot on myspace though for some reason. For IE, I use the google taskbar for popup blocking, and spybot to immunize IE and block the evils of spyware. Runs just as well as Firefox did for what I use it for anyway, although for everyone else, I recommend Firefox cuz you dont have to do extra stuff to stay safe.

My post got deleted for recommending an extension.

Adams

All you have to do is ask why. It was deleted because there were numerous posts that were out of order due to me changing the time of the server. I couldn't change the time of the post and it got deleted.

So everyone go get FasterFOX extension because DAdams told you so.

I wish people would stop assuming and just ASK next time.

What do you guys think of the AOL browser? It's very similar to Fire Fox to me!

Hey Pioneer, I can't find
"network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

There are only two that say network.http... They are the 2 you already stated. I have a mac. Could this be the reason? Also, when you say restart firefox, do you mean restart the computer, or firefox only?
