165... shouldn't be too bad as long as I get to 175 the week beforeThat is coming up quick. Going to try and drop down to 165lbs or must do 181lbs?
My last meet was a water cut from ~170 to 163, and it honestly sucked ass. I couldn't sleep at all the night before weigh-ins because my legs were cramping, and drove up there in misery the whole way.165... shouldn't be too bad as long as I get to 175 the week before
the last 3 days or so are pretty rough, but I have a tolerance for discomfort, which may be a flaw within its own right, eh....My last meet was a water cut from ~170 to 163, and it honestly sucked ass. The moral of the story? Weight cuts blow.
What, don’t cut?You already know what im gonna say, so i aint even gonna say it . Just hoping you put the best numbers out on the platform that you can even if thats minus bench. Bench sucks anyway.
I'll take any form of consistent sleep at this point, considering having to change my sleep schedule coming off of 12x8 is never easy to begin with...will def try my best either way!Sleep the days prior to the weighin is what’s most important. The night of the cut sleep is often trash and minimal and night before comp often can be bad for many too to no detriment. But where you can set yourself up is good sleep Mon-Wed (if weighing Friday morn for a Saturday comp).
thanks as always J!! ...blows considering I was able to do a 4x4 with 295 this prep, and now might be lucky to get it once on meet dayYou already know what im gonna say, so i aint even gonna say it . Yes. I am not necessarily against cutting altogether, just against massively aggressive weight cuts if you arent setting records or qualifying for a national level or bigger stage competition. I get that its part of being competitive in the sport, but I think at a certain point you just need to go put the biggest number out on the stage that you can and fuk the bs. Prove you have the total first then worry about the class part next. Cutting 10lbs in 2 weeks isnt a big deal at all, maybe even 15 (assuming the individual in question is <225). But much more than that and imo you should just grow into the next class and be stronger. What, don’t cut?
I will always understand and respect your viewpoint on the matter...I just feel as if exploiting competitive advantages in a sport like powerlifting will always be a 'who can vs who can't' type of thing...not everyone can cut stupid amounts of weight and still make it work...I am still very much trying to develop a more responsible and safe method to it, and will always try to keep the water cut to under 15 lbs...and realistically at my height, 165 is a much better class to try and fit in, I just gotta stop being a fatty when I'm not in prep...but I also find it very similar those who seek advantages in the form of excessive arches, wide stance/low bar squats, and crazy wide sumo stances...I just feel it should always be about putting yourself in the most competitive position possible, whether that means taking advantage of individual leverages, technique, and/or weight manipulation....can we still be friends J? ...lol.Yes. Edit: damnit Hyde. You made me say it.
It really hasn't been that bad...no carbs is the hardest part, but def not starving myself...I mean I do get late evening cravings, but pork rinds and sour cream or string cheese and pepperoni fill that void fairly easy...but eggs and bacon/sausage doesn't get too old...plus chaffles have really saved me this time around, I can still do burgers and tacos without the carbs because of them.if one can essentially starve themselves and cut that much weight and then go SBD heavy ass weights, that’s hardfukk status. Just another way to test the limits. I get real hangry when a single meal is delayed, can’t imagine how yomo feels lol. Probably fuel for the fire I’d imagine. And those giant beyond snatch grip, 2” rom, exorcist arch “bench presses” are disgraceful imo.
It will all depend on what I can get down to by the Saturday before, but I've only ever used magnesium citrate 2 days prior to weigh ins...any recommendations?Yomo what laxative protocol are you going to use?
That will work fine. We typically just use the recommended dose of milk of magnesia the day before the fast begins (usually Wednesday for a Friday morning weighin) and depending on how that goes and travel plans there may be an additional administration Thursday morning BEFORE food & water is cut off completely (typically 24 hours out) since Milk of Magnesia needs a good 8oz water to work. Last thing you want to do is take magnesium after you started your fast and have it sit waiting useless in your gut until you get off the weighin scale and trigger a round of shits when you start rehydrating lol.It will all depend on what I can get down to by the Saturday before, but I've only ever used magnesium citrate 2 days prior to weigh ins...any recommendations?
100% my dude. I definitely get your points. I just think there are certain things you should be able to do before you start doing things with a non-insignificant chance at making a worse version of yourself show up on meet day. If im not within 100lbs of a record total or 30-50 in a lower lift in the gym then i sure as **** aint gonna torture myself for essentially no reason. We’ve had this dialogue before though haha. My views on it are probably one of the reasons why i likely will never be anything more than an above average strong guy in the gym.I will always understand and respect your viewpoint on the matter...I just feel as if exploiting competitive advantages in a sport like powerlifting will always be a 'who can vs who can't' type of thing...not everyone can cut stupid amounts of weight and still make it work...I am still very much trying to develop a more responsible and safe method to it, and will always try to keep the water cut to under 15 lbs...and realistically at my height, 165 is a much better class to try and fit in, I just gotta stop being a fatty when I'm not in prep...but I also find it very similar those who seek advantages in the form of excessive arches, wide stance/low bar squats, and crazy wide sumo stances...I just feel it should always be about putting yourself in the most competitive position possible, whether that means taking advantage of individual leverages, technique, and/or weight manipulation....can we still be friends J? ...lol.
Never know when you’ll have to be an above average strong guy outside the gym as well. Better to have it and not need it.Doubled

On that note, take a couple Imodium tabs right after your first pint after weighin. Then maybe one-three more through the day as you refeed. This helps you keep what you kill. Day of the meet isn’t a bad idea for a tab either.
Also, consider some Ashwaganda to help control cortisol/relax you the last couple days. And before you begin your fast, take a couple grams of vit C for cort control and promote peeing, plus dandelion root, b vitamins & caffeine (no doze, black coffee, etc) to further promote peeing. And 1-200mg potassium to help delay cramping significantly without holding water.
we'll eventually land on mutual ground, ha! ...I will always welcome input from guys like you, Jim, Kleen, and Hyde, etc...I continue to learn and improve almost every time I log in!!100% my dude. haha, thx...and took a whiff before the 515 set, just trimmed it out...honestly believe it gave me just enough of a spark to finish the set, and even feel like I may have left 1-2 in the tank if it had been an AMRAP.No ammonia? Must be full of piss and vinegar
Strong yankin!
Was thinking the same thing when watching the last rep on the video. Nice pulling man. Had to be close to a triple PR didnt it?and even feel like I may have left 1-2 in the tank if it had been an AMRAP.
thanks....and yea, not too far off of my sloppier 525 trip last prepWas thinking the same thing when watching the last rep on the video. Nice pulling man. Had to be close to a triple PR didnt it?
No real reason, other than was off work that week so a majority of the fast was sleeping...not a fan either way, and will def down something pre from here on outWhy you always fasting into your training? I get you’re trying to lean out but why don’t you allocate a couple hundred calories from your post meal to pre/intra carbs? Probably have better lifting and only one less hour fasted.
I mean you’re doing great, but it seems like you’d ensure better hydration, energy and less chance of injury.
Lower back is pretty close to be being "thrown"....disc feels crazy irritated.Damn bro, **** happens. You all good physically tho?
McGill 3, reverse hypers...rinse and repeat...at least has me walking around.Sorry to hear thats how the meet went for you bro. How are you feeling a couple days out?
I'm not one to argue calls, so I didn't, but feel the same...the following retake took me out...and I probably should have waved the rest of the meet, but took my bench and dead openers successfully...frustration got the best of me.So did that take you out of the meet?
That was deep. I am pretty strict on judging and that was obviously thru parallel even from the front.
