Yomo's Wannabe Powerlifter Log...

Oh ok. I got some at mine thatbare definitwly wider than that though
Yeah they do make them that way.
See? Not as wide as i thought but still a solid 2" :)View attachment 170189
Out of the 14 45 plates I have 4 of them are just like this. I just couldn't remember the brand to mention them. That is why I mentioned the Standard brand, which is pretty... well standard for lack of a better word. I have some weiders, golds and Standards that are all basically the same then the ones like what you posted up. I recommend against them for anyone looking to load up their bars because you can run out of room quickly. My Hex bar has shorter loading sleeves and these bad boys fill them up quick, so I look for thinner ones but if I can find a damn good deal on the thicker / wider ones then I will still grab them.

Would any of you guys recommend this bar, Invalid Link Removed to help with my shoulder issue for the time being?
Not sure that would offer any benefit to the shoulder at all. You are still holding it with a normal grip, just weight distribution, and need for stability are different with that bar.

Cambered bar for $140? Gotta be something wrong with it lol
It is just a basic bar, will last forever but nothing special about it.
Titan's prices are all well below the rest of the market, this bar is no different... absolutely basic camber bar with no knurling, lol...and weighs 85lbs naked.
FOr your uses it would be fine, but not in a commercial gym or anything. However like I mentioned I don't see this aiding your shoulder.

Bro how have I never found this log lol. Glad to be here. Didn’t catch up but a few posts, but good numbers!

Without knowing anything about your shoulder issue, I would say no to the camber. It takes a lot of bicep crushing & lat to stabilize, and that will be decidedly tougher on the shoulder than an SSB. A cambered bar is just a mean stimulus, not as much of a shoulder break.

EliteFTS SSB or Duffin’s Transformer bar if you have another $100 to spend would be the way to go if I had a home gym.

Titan Fitness is where you go if you have a home gym and need something that won’t get tons of use. Everything they make is relative trash compared to what’s out there, but great value for your money. For example their loadable Husafelt stone is very slick and thin compared to almost any other, BUT that means any comp you go to will be easier with even more weight. It’s not something you get for lots of people to use, it’s for the guy in his shed doing it solo.

I have the ELite SSB and love it, but if I were spending the money now I would bet the Transformer bar for sure!!!

Invalid Link Removed

^^I think I found a decent compromise.
Nice looking bar and I do believe that is who jimbuick goes through for most of his home equipment. I have used several of the things at his house and they were all nice. I am pretty sure that is who he used but perhaps he will see that I mentioned him and can comment to say for sure.

You were right; I would see the mention lol.

Yeah, most of my equipment is from Rick over at Edge. I don't have his SSB (I already owned an EliteFTS), but I have his cambered bar and it is good quality.

I am considering a spider bar from him as my next bar purchase, whenever I decide I need another bar.

was not expecting this session to go as well as it did...played with hand placement and different grips until I finally found one that didn't aggravate the shoulder...

I see you there, hitting the same CG bench numbers as Thursday but with a 2 count pause! Nicely done

Took the week off, tweaked my back wrenching on the car last Sunday...so today finally made it out to Iron Sport Gym for the first time in hopes of hitting 6 hunnit...sleep was terrible, and even though energy felt good, I just felt off...the 1st attempt made it just over my knees, and the 2nd just below...ripped my hand probably worse than I ever had before, was leaking pretty bad...but was upset, so went on a singles party, regret it now because the ripped callous stretches across the pinky and almost to the middle finger and it hurts like hell...the RDLs may be also be a PR..
forgot the heels, so the 455 moved slower than I would have liked, but shoulder issue didn't rear its ugly head...Bench was hot garbage...all the power bars were taken, so I benched with a deadlift bar, lol, which was terrible, unracked 315 and put it right back, wasn't worth it....

How tf did you miss 605 but you can pull all those singles above 500?!

That’s about 5x the volume over 500 I could handle when I pulled 628. I seriously can’t even comprehend how you managed all those. You can operate seriously close to your limit strength without much repercussion. I so much as look at 90% and I might as well go home afterwards and take a couple days off.

The spasms in my lower back have been crazy all day...and still can't open my right hand all the way

I am not saying you didn’t work hard for it; I’m just saying I couldn’t have even got there if I wanted. 5 singles at 5+ and I’m done-so.

Well it was badass. Rest 15-18 days from deadlift aside from a dynamic session next week around (375-405 for 8x1) and you will pull 605 after that stimulus.

so how did you end up doing that anyways? I've torn from pullups, gymastics work on rings, and even kettlebells but I know you weren't doing those things. Is that from just a nasty knurling on the deadlift bar?

sounds advice...might work up to my opener 2 weeks out, which is 2 weeks from now...

yea, just way too much volume on the DL bar, especially after what was only a smaller tear after the 2nd fail.

Yoooo you’re hand lol that’s insane

she's purdy aint she, lol...looks worse now, just a nice skin flap with a lotta exposed dark meat, ha

Bunch of face pulls and pull aparts...

back is still stupid tight...been mashing, stretching, and using the heating pad the last couple of days.

and benching felt like ****...the top set made the scabs on my right hand start leaking again, so went with a suicide grip on the 3 x 5, which helped keep the bar lower in the palm.

what I used to do when I tore a lot is wrap it in an ointment at night when I go to bed, like neosporin or bag balm is really really good, that's what nursing moms use. then in the morning, remove the bandage and let it air dry/heal. I found this to be the fastest way to recover a bad tear cause it healed nicely at night, then dried out during the day. otherwise if it was dry all the time it would crack, or if it was bandaged all the time it stayed to soft and would tear again.

That’s how I’ve always done it

yea, I've used neosporin this way all week, but let it air out at night because I always have gloves on at work.

I am thinking mental block, or just a more robust CNS to be able to handle more singles at a higher intensity. Probably mental block breaking the 600 barrier, maybe both.

I handle these a bit differently than the gentlemen above. I immediately cut the flap off and trim it back as far as possible. This helps to avoid it tearing or peeling back any further. Then I get it moist and then pack it with salt, and sit and chill, or tape or bandaid it to hold the salt there if moving around a lot. Then just leave it there for a while letting it soak in so the salt pulls the moisture and tans the hide so to speak...makes it like leather and harder again. The next day it is pretty squared away then I can start using lotions if I want too. Depending on how the skin looks. Sometimes the dryness causes the edges to harden and separate a tiny but so I just clean that up with medical scissors or filing the edges off so that i do not have anything to snag and separate the rest of the callous from the fresh skin beneath.

Now I will say that this hurts like a mofo, but it makes the skin usable faster by toughening the soft pink skin up over night as opposed to days of re-tearing, or having to avoid using it too much due to extreme sensitivity of the fresh pink skin.

I do this too. First thing is trim off the loose, then it’s Morton salt in a coffee pot of water where I soak my hand until I can see the exposed nerves flushing (that part is gonna sting) and pulsing, THEN I will use neosporin or goldbond ultimate in the coming days whenever (which depends on if I am using a bandaid or just moisturizing).

Vitamin E oil or A&D ointment is also a great option here.

shoulder finally not an issue...knock on wood.

No pressing last few days?

just Tuesdays sesh, same scheme as Sat's Squats...will be hitting opener (295) for 3 singles Thurs...Bench is taking a backseat because of the shoulder issue, but I'm still gunnin for a 320 meet rep PR.

Good luck with that shoulder. You might try using a slingshot in the interim just to keep the CNS grooved. I had to use one to keep training through and allow an injury to recover a good bit. It really saved my meet and I still ended up besting my expectations at the meet. I did speed work without it and any heavy training with it and it kept me in good stead for the meet. Of course shoulder injuries are so completely different from one to another that it may be of no assistance at all for your situation.

always appreciate your input...any lapse in bench progression is sorta on me at this point...I never really tried to address the issue as thoroughly as I should have, and blamed it on the unexpected meet prep...thinking back, I am almost certain I tweaked it while Incline Pressing, during a weird re re rack of the bar...after this meet I plan on taking my bench, and starting from scratch...everything went downhill after hitting my PR pause rep of 345, gotta figure out why.

the loss in strength should have been expected during the weight loss, but it still doesn't make it any less frustrating...still benching with a thumb's length away from center knurl, any wider irritates the shoulder.
