You like two of the best and most dazzling dribblers in the world. Good chocies. :)

I love soccer/futbol/football b/c of the constant build up for a goal only to be rejected then starting over again minute after minute. I also like it b/c it is a sport where size for the most part does not matter. Skill and talent shine above all else.

Im new to the game but so far they catch your eye. a guy named digo i think was quite good.

I think you are being a bit harsh on your country's team. they were in a very strong bracket. Czech is going home as well and they are an excellent side.

USA lacks offensive creativity and the ability to consistently string passes together. This can be attributed to a many things so it is hard just to pin it on one thing or person. Much of it though should fall onto the coach and the tactics that he employs. For instance, agaisnt Italy they did not use the remaining substitution or the seemingly refusal to play with 2 forwards or the odd insistence in putting Beasley and McBride into games and leaving them in w/o production.

What is the deal with Freddie Adu? The kid is a prodigy, but i've heard nothing from him recently.

Ive never understood it before but ive been sucked in to watching every game i can catch. I like ronaldo from spain, ronaldino from brasil and mexicos center feild. Oh and long walks on the beach.

I'll let you off since you freely admit to being a newcomer, but Ronaldo is Portugese, not Spanish. :)

I agree though, he's great. I see him regularly as he plays for Man U in the Premiership.

Ronaldhino's talent goes without saying - he is one of, if not THE best player in the world - but he seems quite shy for Brazil. You need to see the **** he pulls out the hat when he's in a Barcelona shirt. It is scary.

And ironically, Me'hico's centre midfield is comprised pretty much of their central defender Marquez, who is an amazing talent (also of Barcelona - so you get the idea why Barca won the Champions League a few months back) and covers the pitch like a blanket.

oh ok portugal they must have a reddish jersey, i wasnt sure but that makes sense. I was in mexico and those guys were going nuts, the staff at my resort were nice reserved professional, when the world cup was on however they went apeshiet.
nice place picked up some nice jerseys from there $25 USD each for chelsea, arsenault, brasil (ronaldinho). these were the only ones in XL so im rockin em.

I dont think people who arent avid soccer fans should harp on the US teams performance and try to act like they know what went wrong. Im not ripping on anyone but soccer is so far from other sports in its complexity. Like journalist on ESPN shows no nothing about soccer at all but yet they sit and rip it. Little do most americans know that soccer is the #1 sport in the world (popularity). Most americans arent aware of this but it is a fact. I have several friends who play D-1 soccer and semi-pro. They have a number of international players and all of them say how odd it is over here because people dont know anything about or really play soccer. You go anywhere in europe or s. america and u can pick up a soccer convo. with almost anyone. I mean everyones intitled to their opinion but sometimes they are just jumpin on the USA bashing banwagon.

You make good points but IMO the reason many Americans with no soccer knowledge ripped the team a new a-hole is because we were told that they were the 5th ranked team in the world and would be a threat in the tournament. BTW, it's also common knowledge that American sports fans like to rip their teams regardless LOL

How does the ranking system work anyway? I nearly choked when I heard USA are ranked higher than Argentina.

Yea i hear u but if the american people watch any of their games like they do with other sports the would know that they were over rated and that rankings dont really mean much. Ghana was what 56th i think and they beat the Cez. who were #2.

If u watched him in any MLS games u would know hes nothing special. Just an above avg. player. he starts some games comes off the bench, and occasionaly doesnt get in. I honeslty think it was just a ploy to try and get americans more intersted in soccer.

Me thinks South Korea deserve to score at least one goal tonight.

Gutted, absolutely gutted.

Can someone please tell the US team they don't need to be within 10' of the goal to take a shot.

Many games are won or tied with a single goal. I just really wish the US team would take a shot from 50' out like most teams do instead of trying to get so close and then being in a 2 on 5 situation against them.

I have watched 24 of the games from beginning to end(My wife is from South America so we have the Spanish Channles). Like someone said, I don't know why the US is so upset we did so bad, we lost the World Hockey Championships and the World Baseball Championships too.

I think it just shows the world is getting smaller all the time. The US just isn't going to dominate the way we used to. BUT maybe we can play those Italians, Brailians etc in an AMERICAN football game and see how things go :)

I think a D-II football team would easily beat a Brazilian or Italian football team LOL

FIFA weighted the confederation cup games, and inter-America friendlies and qualifying games far too high. They have admited this and it has caused a lot of talk.

Rankings don't mean **** though. They don't help you win competitions.

Poor coaching/strategy. The USA plays with a 4-5-1 which in the USA's case meant very little offense and too much long ball. The midfielders were not willing to take shots which they have to do in this alignment. INstead, they were encouraged to cross constantly but the crosses were often to 1 man being marked by 3. In my opinion, this was do to strategic error on the coaches.

I agree 100%, i thought for sure he might switch to a 4-4-2 for the last game. Im glad hes stepping down as coach now. Maybe we can get asome new fresh ideas and some wins

sad to see Ghana go down :(

Game should have been 2-0 or 1-0 Brazil. a couple of bad breaks. Poor Ghana they outplayed Brazil for much of the match.

As expected, Spain looks great in group play then crumbles. Zidane lives to play another international game.

I thought Spain looked awful considering they were hyped and had like a 20-25 game unbeaten streak. I thought they'd at least be able to beat France but they got smoked 3-1, should have been 3-0 because I don't think that was a penalty kick.

BTW, speaking of penalty kicks, what an awful fVcking call that was in the Australia-Italy game. I think that ref is more popular than pope Ratzinger in Italy after that gift :icon_lol:

This is typical Spain and the reason you never bet on them. They have so much talent but they always come up short.

The PK to end the Italy game was the correct call. The defender was beat and the Italian tripped over him. It may have been exagerrated but the referee has to make that call.

I honestly don't know if it was a legal or illegal PK, but that play looked fine to a guy like me, who doesn't really follow soccer :D

The second goal for the Samba had the linesman missing the offsides TWICE within the space of about 6 seconds. I was uber disappointed.

It was a free kick, but yeah, you're right. I don't care what Thierry says about not being a diver, but he cheated to get the free kick. Plain and simple, he dived.

ITALY SCORES 5:17 in, they are moving really well.
Whatever team can give Brazil the best Final I'm rooting for, nothing against Brazil - I just want a good game

Italy and Germany both win today. Italy is looking quite good.

the Argentina-Germany game was pretty good, the Argentines were a little over-dramatic with their inuries trying to kill time though, and that pisses me off. Why the hell were they brawling at the end ? The Argentines appeared like poor losers and cry babies. It was funny watching one of Argentinas players trying to pull his hair after he missed and he was almost bald LMAO

Me, the ignorant American, says

No, wa play football, they play soccer ;)

BTW, I really get turned off by the guys who roll on the floor like they got shot or stabbed, then get carrried off in a stretcher to be sprayed some icy hot before they come back, what a bunch of warriors LOL

Just like our "football" kickers who fake the llegal collision and fall on their face? Trying to get the other side carded?
Kickers aren't football players, we all know that. We just temporarily worship them if they make the game winning kick :D

If they miss the kick they can be burned at the stake and no one would care

Robboe...how do you feel about C.Ronaldo? Is it hatred yet? Is Rooney going to break him?

Italy looks like the team to beat now.

damn missed the game, at rehab for the leg..

It is absolute hatred. I would wager even die-hard Man U supporters are embarrassed and enraged. There is currently 24hr police patrol at his house apparently, in fear of people doing it over.

Is Ronney going to break him? Doubt it. I am sure he wants to, but he'll be professional. I have heard that he was never quite keen on him anyway as he dosn't see him as a team player.

But i'd be suprised if Ronaldo does not leave Man U after the tournament.

You're right, if Italy play like that against France on Sunday, i see it being their cup. Zidane is back in form though.

You will note i am stating that Frace will be in the final. This is not a possibility. It is definite, and Ronaldo will suffering multiple compound fractures to both legs (and arms) during the game.

I think it will be France. Unfornutately. Their Defense is tall and athletic.

Go Portugal though!

No hard feelings robboe, soccer is actually more entertaining then baseball :D I really enjoy the World Cup because it's an event that occurs once every 4 years and the stakes are even much higher because you're playing for your country. Soccer would be better in the US if they had teams willing to fork out whatever soccer superstars get paid in Europe and attract the best players in the world, until then, it will remain in the back of the sports page at the bottom corner of the high school sports section.

Hey, Beckhamn said he's gonna try MLS after he's done in Europe, maybe he can inject some life into that league ?

BTW, that Germany-Italy game was pretty damn intense, what a game !

Portugal surprised me, they had their chances but they had no killer instinct to help them beat the French defense. I thought France would go for the kill instead of just holding on those last 12 minutes.

It is specualted that Ronaldo(Brazil) is going to play in the MLS in the future as well.

Portugal sucked and Figo is a joke of a 'top player'
gimme a break, the guy can't even control passes

oh well, Italy won't stand still against France.

Figo barely lasts 60 minutes a game. Its a shame because the guy was once the world's best while at Barca. At Real he had a good first season, but by then Zidane was the highlight (so Real bought him too).

No offense, Robboe, but the English women weren't exactly representing...

Brazil, on the other hand :stick:

Yeah, the Brazilian chicks made me want to plan a vacation for Rio. The Italian ladies were top notch as well.

The English girls aren't as hot about football as the girls of other countries, although they usually get roused for the big tournaments, they just watch from home. Not many make the effort to travel.

When the tournaments are held in England its a different story though.

Someone explain to this American kid who plays a Canadian Sport - what C.Ronaldo did that was so inexcusible..

it was asking for a Red Card for Rooney?
(I don't buy that, people dive and fall on the ground like pussies pretending their ACLs are torn and just get up -- that asking for a card on the foul)

what am i missing here,,

Ronaldo and Rooney are (soon to be were) teammates on Man. U. Supposedly before the match, Ronaldo teased Rooney that he was going to get him sent off. So once Rooney committed the foul, it was uncertain if a red card would be given, but Ronaldo ran up to the ref and protested. After the red card was given, Ronaldo winked at his at his bench (this is where most animosity is coming from).

Most feel since Rooney and Ronaldo are club teammates that Ronaldo should not have behaved in this manner.
